Recap / Wakfu S1E7 "Poisonous Beauty"

Go To

Amalia is bitten by a Demonic Rose, sending her into a coma from its venom. The only cure is a sap from a special tree, so while Eva and Percedal try to deal with the poison's side effects, Yugo and Ruel traverse a dark forest to save Amalia before it's too late.

Tropes:

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Nausea is kind, maternal and caring. She still tears Amalia's crazed doll to pieces when she thinks it caused enough trouble for one day.
  • Blob Monster: One of the first thing the doll does is to open a potion that unleashes a formless, regenerating monster made of living mud. Eva defeats it by throwing a barrel of water on it, which melts the creature.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Sybannak, the Sadida loner who lives in the forest and seems to be not quite right in the head, talking to her plants and to random rocks as if they were responsive. For bonus point, try reading her name backwards...
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: The Demon Roses, according to Eva, come in three different colors, which helps tell how much venomous they are. We have purple, orange and red.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Ruel saves the day when he reveals that he collected more Severum's sap than Yugo thought, which allows them to rescue Amalia.
  • Demonic Possession: In this episode, Rubilax is shown to be able to possess even Amalia's doll.
  • Find the Cure!: The focus of the episode is the quest for the sap of the magical tree known as Severum, which can heal all poisons or disease.
  • Hope Spot: Just as Yugo and Ruel are flying away from the dark forest with the flask of antidote in their hands, the sentient vines snatch it from their hands... then Ruel reveals that he has four more with him.
  • I Am a Humanitarian: While possessing the doll, Rubilax threatens to devour Nausea as he looms right in her face.
  • From Bad to Worse: First, Amalia's doll goes berserk from the poison. Then, it gets possessed by Rubilax. Then, after Rubilax is removed, the doll multiplies!
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: The Bworks stop chasing Yugo and his friends when they see that they are running in the middle of a Demonic Roses field, surely aware of how dangerous the roses' bite and venom is.
  • Loners Are Freaks: Sybannak, though it's implied that she was just as insufferable and childish even when she lived with the other Sadida, and being left alone did not improve matters.
  • MacGuffin: The sap of the Severum tree, which can heal everything.
  • Man-Eating Plant: Sybannak's pets are two huge, deambulatory plant monsters.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Eva and Percedal blame Ruel for Amalia's poisoning, as his antagonizing a group of monsters by stealing one of their treasures is the reason the group ended up running into a field of Demonic Roses to begin with.
  • Oh, Crap!: Eva has this reaction when the doll picks up her bow and prepares to fire a shot.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: When Amalia is delirious with fever, her doll's eyes turn bright red and becomes malicious.
  • Secret Test of Character: Mocked when Rubilax, after being separated from Amalia's doll when trying to attack them, tries to claim they "passed his test". Eva and Dally quickly shut him up.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: In-Universe, Yugo at first seems to feel a little sympathy for Sybannak... before seeing just how much insufferable she can be.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Played for laughs. The first thing Amalia does after being given the antidote is to loudly complain about being in a rustic straw bed and ask for a mirror and a comb.
  • Zerg Rush: The Bworks at the beginning of the episode, and later Amalia's multiplied doll.
