- When the Critic discusses the sex laws in Japan regarding 13-17 year olds, clips from The Simpsons episode "Treehouse of Horror III" play to show Homer reacting to the Critic's examples the same way he reacted to the description of the frogurt.
- When summarizing the formula, the Critic calls Tuxedo Mask "[the] Prat in the Hat".
- Strictly Formula: The review is openly built on the idea that — like several other cited shows — this one can be reduced to a simple formula whose appeal lies in "safe" storytelling with minimal variation. (This involves the distinct — if not wholly unique — plots of a villain from the first dozen episodes of the first season and Serena "never" finding out who the mysterious Tuxedo Mask is.)
