- Designated Villain: Critic says that Jonas is this. He is depicted as a greedy Jerkass, yet real tornado scientists would kill for the funding and sponsorships he's after.
- Fake American: Invoked. When Cary Elwes (Jonas) first talks:Jonas: Oh, I get it. You want to take credit for mah design.
Critic: (as Jonas) You like that? I'm doin' an American AND a Southern accent, so you can't even tell I'm British! - Product Placement: Parodied. In response to Jonas' desire for sponsorships for his experiments, he imitates him saying his latest expedition is sponsored by Welch's.
- Running Gag: Jonas's product placement, plugging Welch's Grape Jelly, Hefty Ziplock Bags, Kung Fu Panda on Blu-ray, and Pepsi (which he plugs as he dies).
- Running Gagged: Critic says "Elephant!" to make the Burger King appear, but he's scared off by the characters' singing.

- "I'll get you next time, Paxton! NEXT TIME!"
- Spoof Aesop: When Jonas and his crew pass Bill's crew on the road without stopping to help them, Critic says "That's what corporate sponsors can do to you, kids."
- Take That!Critic: Now with that out of the way, let's talk about disaster movies.(a poster for Tom and Jerry: The Movie appears)Critic: No no no, not that kind of disaster movie!
