Molly struggles to keep Scratch a secret from Libby when it becomes a challenge for her.
Tropes:
- All for Nothing: Despite all the lengths she goes through to keep Scratch a secret from Libby, Molly is still forced to reveal his existence to her in order to keep her as a friend.
- Continuity Nod: Molly's hatred for street magic (seen in "All Systems No") comes up again.
- Didn't Think This Through: Molly pretending to be a Canadian named Milly without doing any research on Canadian geography or culture.
- Does Not Like Spam: It turns out that Molly hates maple syrup, having described it as "tasting like a tree's tears".
- Entertainingly Wrong: Libby thinks she's discovered Molly's big secret, and the reason she's been acting so weird... she's been taken over by an Eastern Canadian brain slug!Scratch: Oh wow, she went off in a totally different direction, huh?
- Faint in Shock: After Molly finally reveals Scratch, Libby immediately faints dead away.
- Foregone Conclusion: As evident by the next episode, Libby does learn about Scratch, when Molly finally breaks down and tells Libby herself.
- Humiliation Conga: Apart from questioning Molly as Milly all about Canada, Libby forced Molly to eat a cheeseburger covered in maple syrup, subjected her to watching Irving the Illusionist, and followed her everywhere until she cracked under pressure.
- Internal Reveal: In addition to Libby learning about Scratch, Molly learns about the Flow of Failed Phantoms and how Scratch could be sent to it.
- Keeping Secrets Sucks: Molly is torn between not wanting to lose her friendship with Libby and not getting Scratch in trouble.
- Noodle Incident: We only see a glimpse of Molly and Scratch's "crazy Friday night". It involved Molly riding on Scratch, who is holding a fish, while wearing a ballcap and softball mitt and waving a mop around like a staff.
- Oh, Crap!: Molly's reaction to seeing Irving the Illusionist again.
- Paper-Thin Disguise: Molly's attempt at posing as her "cousin from Canada" Milly is a blue wig and a change of fashion, with little attempt to disguise her voice or cheerful demeanor. Libby sees through it immediately, but does mess with Molly for a while trying to get her to admit it on her own.
- Room Full of Crazy: Molly's room is trashed and full of String Theory after she spends the night coming up with a "new" friend for Libby.
- Sadistic Choice: Molly has to choose between keeping a big secret from her human best friend and losing her, or telling her human best friend about her ghost best friend, and risk dooming him to a literal Fate Worse than Death.
- Shout-Out: At one point Libby believes Molly has been taken over by a brain slug.
- Snowball Lie: After Scratch tells her that if Molly and Libby can't be friends, then Libby "needs a new best friend", Molly concocts a Zany Scheme where she poses as Milly, her (fictional) cousin from Canada.Scratch: So, the answer to lying to Libby about me is to tell an even bigger lie about yourself?
- Spotting the Thread: Libby seems to have caught up on Molly hiding something. She also sees right through Molly's disguise as "Milly" and tries to unravel the truth throughout the episode.
- Trailers Always Spoil: Libby finding out about Scratch had already been given away by the next episode's summary.
- The Unmasking: When Scratch materializes in front of Libby.
