Anais asks Gumball and Darwin to teach her how to be dumb so she can enjoy playing with them and Richard and not have to put up with Nicole watching her put together jigsaw puzzles.
Tropes:
- Accidental Proposal: During the Dumb Race, Richard interrupts Larry’s marriage proposal and Larry ends up accidentally proposing to him instead. Richard doesn’t say no, just that he needs to think about it.
- All for Nothing: Gumball's attempt at earning back his dad's favor from Anais was for naught, as she only ever wanted to be dumb for a day, not forever. Also, it turns out Richard's actual favorite was Darwin all along.
- Asinine Alternate Activity: Seeing the boys have fun with their dad, Anais grows bored of doing a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle with her mom and asks if they could do something more fun. Nicole then offers to do a 2,000 piece jigsaw puzzle.
- Balloonacy: At the beginning of the Dumb Race Tobias accidentally grabs a bunch of balloons and floats off ("I'm winning, I'm winning!... I'm not winning!"). He's still seen floating around at the end of the episode.
- Blind Mistake: Of course, several of these happen during the Dumb Race: Tobias accidentally floats away with some balloons, Idaho mistakes a golf ball for his mother and then gets hit with a golf club, Banana Joe slices himself into pieces by running through a fence, Anton runs into a pond and gets eaten by ducks, Rocky gets clotheslined by a branch, Richard gets proposed to, and Marvin runs over Gumball and Anais in his electric scooter.
- Brick Joke: At the beginning of the episode Richard, Darwin, and Gumball are playing "butt puppets" (pretending their own butts are heads). At the end Richard seems to be doing it again at Gumball's bedside, but it's actually a doctor that happened to look exactly like Richard's butt puppet, has his voice, and is named "Dr. Butt".
- Canis Latinicus: When Gumball and Darwin play "I'm The President" and both decide to kiss the "flag" (a smelly sock), they claim the motto for Dumb Land is "Dumbus Kissus Flagus".
- Epic Fail: Gumball is given the task of putting in the only piece in a jigsaw puzzle left, goes nowhere after hours of trying, then gives up.
- "Eureka!" Moment:Anais: You guys don't think dumb! You don't think at all!
- Evil Laugh: Gumball does one after coming up with his plan to prove himself as the dumbest person in the whole town.
- Fire-Breathing Diner: Gumball’s mouth catches on fire after he eats a hot pepper, demonstrating to Anais that the key to acting dumb is not thinking at all.
- Ghost in the Machine: Darwin demonstrates how to "think dumb" by popping open his head to show Anais his brain, which is a man with a brain for a head doing a jig.
- Green-Eyed Monster: After Anais learns to play dumb and Gumball keeps getting left out of playing with Darwin and Richard, Gumball starts thinking she's stealing their dad away from him.Gumball: Well, I’ll show her who’s the dumbest in the whole town! Then dad will be mine again!
- I'm Not Doing That Again: When Gumball fails miserably to try to finish a puzzle with his mom, they both shake hands and agree to never do that again.
- Incredibly Lame Fun: All Nicole can think of to do for fun is assembling jigsaw puzzles with an extremely large number of pieces and then taking pictures of them.
- Innocently Insensitive: When Anais replaces Gumball in playing with Darwin and their dad, the three of them make comments about how much fun they’re having, unknowingly rubbing it in Gumball’s face.Anais: Wow, this couch is really perfect for three people!Richard: Yeah, if we had a fourth person it’d be kind of cramped.
- Insult Backfire: Nicole tells Gumball that the Dumb Race was a stupid idea, but proving he was the dumbest was the whole point, so he thanks her.
- Joke of the Butt: The episode begins with Richard, Gumball, and Darwin making their butts talk and making a bunch of butt-themed puns.
- Medium-Shift Gag: As Anton falls into a lake, he shifts into a live-action slice of toast as he's eaten by real ducks.
- My Eyes Are Up Here: Parodied when Gumball gives this line as he's playing "butt puppets", insisting that Anais look at the fake face on his rear end instead of his actual face.
- My Hovercraft Is Full of Eels: Anais tries to speak Gumball and Darwin’s made-up “dumb” language and apparently ends up saying something inappropriate.Gumball: [snickering] It’s just what you said is really rude!Darwin: Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?
- Parental Favoritism: At the hospital, Richard laments how this all happened just because Gumball and Anais wanted to be his favorite, when in actuality his favorite is Darwin. Though he tries to backtrack and say Darwin is his favorite fish.
- Smelly Feet Gag: When Gumball tells Darwin to go find the smelliest thing in the house, Darwin brings back Richard’s sweaty sock that’s apparently “crusty on the outside and moldy on the inside”.
- Something We Forgot: At the end of the episode, everyone realizes they left Darwin at the park. The scene then cuts to him continuing to run around a tree blindfolded.Darwin: Did I win yet? Did I win yet? Did I win yet? (slams into tree, falls onto the ground) ...ow.
- Took a Level in Dumbass: Invoked, as Anais tries to be dumb for a day to enjoy time with her brothers and dad.
- Unconventional Food Usage: Richard and the kids play “Fruit Ball” in which they hit different fruits with a baseball bat.
- Verbal Backpedaling: Richard offhandedly mentions that Darwin is his favorite; when he sees his family's angered reaction he backpedals "...fish! My favorite fish!".
- Watch Out for That Tree!: Rocky is taken out of the Dumb Race when he runs headfirst into a low hanging branch.
- Darwin also smacks into a tree at the very end of the episode.
