Recap / Resident Alien S 2 E 1 Old Friends

Go To

Harry crash-lands back in Patience and loses his memory. Asta takes care of him while Max and Sahar try to keep people away from the invisible spaceship.

Tropes:

  • Captain Morgan Pose: To stress the point that he Took a Level in Badass, Ben provocatively assumes this pose at the sheriff's office.
  • Carpet of Virility: Max freaks out at the end of the episode when he discovers he has suddenly grown an extremely thick mat of chest hair, despite not having gone through puberty yet.
  • Cassandra Truth: Harry tells all the doctors at the Braddock hospital about his home planet, complete with diagrams of celestial bodies' relative locations. They chalk it up to his head trauma.
  • Casual Kink: Ben and Kate are seen trying on a wide variety of fetishes and kinks in an attempt to recreate the sexual high they got from the violence they inflicted on Lisa Casper and David Logan during the first season finale.
  • Comedic Spanking: Harry does this to Max for the latter suggesting that Harry acted like a Papa Wolf and protecting him with his body during the spaceship crashlanding.
  • Crisis Catch And Carry: Harry sprints out of the restaurant carrying No. 42, having broken him out of his tank before he could become "Monday's chef special."
  • Daydream Surprise: Harry's refusal to turn the spaceship around is first presented as driving Max to grandma's house against his wishes.
  • Family of Choice: Asta mentions to Harry that he can have a family on Earth since family sometimes just means the people in your life that you love.
  • Identity Amnesia: Harry thinks he's Lennie Briscoe after crash-landing back in Patience.
  • If Only You Knew: Sheriff Mike suggests that the person behind the altercation at Harry's cabin had an extra pair of arms. His absurd idea is actually correct, due to Harry's Bizarre Alien Limbs.
  • Immediate Sequel: This episode picks up right where Season 1 left off with Harry and Max in Harry's spaceship and Max demanding that Harry take him back to Earth.
  • Licked by the Dog: Max hugs Harry when they reunite at the cabin. Harry doesn't like it.
  • Mundane Solution: Harry tries (and fails) to end the baseball game by causing a disruption on the field. Asta simply cuts the power to the field lights.
  • No Seat Belts: Harry and Max are violently tossed about inside the spaceship.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Harry looks like he's drowned in the lake. In actuality, he was just deep in thought and using his gills to breathe.
  • No, You: Max uses "I know you are, but what am I?" to great success when Harry insults him.
  • Overcome with Desire: Ben and Kate have undergone Flanderization and now spent most of their time on-screen becoming sexually aroused by violence and each other. Max is grossed out and adults trying to converse with them (Asta at their house, Liz while taking Kate's witness statement for a sketch) are equally put off.
  • Portmanteau: Sahar calls her fictitious poop-from-the-eyes disease "eye-arrhea."
  • Seamless Spontaneous Lie: Sahar keeps skaters away from the ship by concocting a lie about an underground sewage leak with infection-causing particulate matter. Her delivery is so confident that it fools Max.
  • Secret Ingredient: Max immediately reveals to Asta that the secret ingredient in "Bencakes" is brown sugar.
  • Vengeful Vending Machine: Harry narrates that when he first came to Earth, he met a dog who taught him the rules about survival on Earth, including simple hygiene and power dynamics. As he talks about power dynamics, he is shown shaking down a vending machine outside a heavily graffitied diner until it gives up a bag of chips.
