Japanese Title:
馬鹿オンリーイベント 〜同類〜
Baka Onrii Ibento ~Dourui~
Original Air Date:
2 August 2016

Two middle school gang kingpins, Salt Middle's Onigawara and Black Vinegar Middle's Edano, square off against each other. Edano's much-larger gang gets pounded into the ground and calls in reinforcements: Teruki 'Teru' Hanazawa, Black Vinegar's urabanchō (behind-the-scenes, or 'shadow', gang leader). This smug little blond pretty boy beats Onigawara bloody and scatters his crew.

Mob wakes up to his mother's voice and a wheedling green spirit greeting him before school. The nuisance, revealing himself to be what remains of Dimple, convinces an irked Mob not to fully exorcise him. Dimple follows him around to study his habits, as he can't get a read on the teenager at all.

Mezato approaches Mob's brother Ritsu for an interview, hoping to get some background information on Mob for the school paper. He cooperates only for the prospect of learning about what his big brother's been up to.

While Reigen exorcises a client's photo, Mob asks for advice on the spirit haunting him. Reigen leaves that decision up to him, and the boy lets Dimple remain provided he behaves himself.

Over soft drinks later, Mezato interviews Ritsu about Mob's psychic powers and shares news of Mob's 100% rage explosion generating a cult, before asking him for an exclusive scoop. He abruptly declines and leaves.

In a rare turn of events, Ritsu joins Mob for a chat the next day on the walk to school. He's curious: why doesn't Mob use his powers much anymore? Ritsu learns that his brother doesn't see them as useful, particularly so for any of the things he most wants in life.

Onigawara asks the Body Improvement Club for help in his turf war with Edano's gang, but the Muscle Brothers are NOT. INTERESTED. When one of Onigawara's lackeys presses them, they violently decline. He gets the idea to use Mob as bait instead... with a misspelled love letter the unsuspecting teenager finds in his locker and another letter hidden in the Body Improvement Club's meeting room. It works. The Black Vinegar gang take Mob hostage and tie him up, drawing the Muscle Brothers out to come to the boy's rescue and mop the schoolyard with them.

Teru breaks his date to come to Edano's aid. He summarily removes him from power and lays Onigawara out flat again, along with the Body Improvement Club... except for Mob. Mob, still standing, unties himself with his own powers and calls Teru out. His counter is now at 45%.

Tropes appearing in this episode include:

  • Actual Pacifist: Mob allows Edano's gang to tie him up, refusing even to defend himself against Dimple's objections to the whole situation. When his club mates arrive to defend him and get soundly trounced for their trouble, the teenager chastises Teru for attacking them and misusing his psychic powers... while quietly demonstrating his own.
  • Dramatic Deadpan: Mob threatens to exorcise Dimple after being called 'Shige-chan' one time too many. In the original Japanese, the boy sharply emphasizes his words without changing his tone of voice in the slightest:
Dimple: Your brother seems pretty smart and nice, Shige-chan.
Mob: My name is Shigeo. Call me 'Shige-chan' one more time and I'll exorcise you.
  • Establishing Character Moment:
    • In the cold open for this episode, Teru makes a crater in a wall with Onigawara's body... while texting someone who is practically begging for his attention and low-key insulting his gang to their faces. His internal monologue only highlights the incredible size of his ego.
    • Mezato's interview with Ritsu reveals him to be polite but chilly with acquaintances, popular and lusted over despite this, and frankly obsessed with his brother's psychic abilities. Later that night in Ritsu's room as he attempts in vain to bend a spoon, we learn he actually feels deficient for lacking psychic powers and doesn't value any of the considerable gifts he does have.
  • Full-Contact Magic: Teru's preferred style of telekinesis. He doesn't need to move or punch to throw his opponents around, but it gives him the appearance of superhuman physical strength while hiding his use of psychic powers somewhat.
  • Gilligan Cut: A cut from the love letter Onigawara baits Mob with for his turf war—directly to Mob waiting at the appointed meeting place, with a weeping, incredulous Dimple over his shoulder.
Onigawara's lackey: A girl wouldn't write 'I'm a girl'. Seriously, no one's gonna fall for that.
Narrator: But he did. (cuts to a blushing Mob)
  • Locker Mail: There's a love letter in Mob's locker put there as bait.
  • Metronomic Man Mashing: Mob's initial reaction to Dimple's surprising him upon awakening. The irritated teenager thrashes him rhythmically against the floor—refusing his offer of a handshake—before the rude spirit even lets slip that he'd somehow 'survived' exorcism.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: Reigen's special move Graphic Exorcism involves using Photoshop to remove a ghostly image from a client's photo.
  • Mutual Envy: Where this is first established between the Kageyama brothers. For supposedly having no social skills and being unable to express himself emotionally in healthy ways, Mob is capable of openly and kindly admitting his to Ritsu; there is no resentment coloring it. This is not true of Ritsu.
  • One-Man Army: Teru against Onigawara's goons and the Muscle Brothers.
  • Pretty Boy: Teruki Hanazawa, within the confines of ONE's artwork and Studio Bones's interpretation thereof: blond, long-haired, pretty and very popular with girls. His soft appearance belies his psychic strength and sadistic streak.
  • Take a Third Option: Reigen is initially unable to see Dimple; the sleazy specter is all too eager to expose him as a fraud. The con man simply states that the ghost is "too weak" to be seen and suggests Mob do whatever he wants with him.
  • Tranquil Fury: At Dimple's call to join him in taking over the world with a new religious movement, Mob's aura activates, his patience sorely tested. Having allowed the sleazy ghost—who'd already attempted to murder him the previous night—to justify his continued existence and waste his time before school, the boy then raises a hand to reunite Dimple with the great beyond:
Dimple: Shige-chan! Pair up with me! Let's shoot for the top of the world together!
Mob: (in a dark monotone, his eyes widening ominously) Any more last words?
