Season 1, Episode 2: Possession Obsession

Tropes That Appear In This Episode:

  • An Aesop: Forcing people to do things against their will, even if it's for their own good, is still wrong and can lead to serious repercussions down the line.
  • Asmodeus: Asmodeus (played by Sam Richardson) is a Sissy Villain demon who swore fealty to Satan in exhange for everything he had (including his family). When he finds out that Satan had no intention of honoring his deal, he possesses Chrissy's soulless body with the intent of unleashing Tartarus onto Earth before the Maximus Dawnus.
  • Catchphrase: Chrissy is trying to make "Pee-pee poo-poo" her catchphrase. By the end, this is used by Laura to help Chrissy pull her soul back together.
  • Deal with the Devil: Asmodeus made one with Satan. He gave him everything he had—his wife, his children, his services, all his land—in exchange for being at Satan's side during Maximus Dawnus. Satan, of course, double-crosses him and reveals that he killed his wife and kids for the hell of it. He's understandably pissed, and tries to pull a Faustian rebellion. Which also doesn't go well.
  • Demonic Possession: The entire crux of the episode is based around Satan teaching Chrissy how to perform a Grand Theft Me and her attempting to use it for good... only for it to go horribly wrong.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Satan describes Demonic Possession as a "rush", and when Chrissy's souls becomes divided amongst all of the people she had possessed that day, he describes it as a "bender", equating Demonic Possession to drinking.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Satan seems fine with Chrissy performing Demonic Possession to do weird or dangerous things with the people she possesses, but he seems to draw the line at partaking in a sex scene, even if it's with someone else's body.
  • Everyone Has Standards: When Laura finds out that he taught Chrissy to possess people, what annoys her seems to be that he's teaching her to be an "evil cliché."
  • Flipping the Bird: How Chrissy reacts to her mother berating her for being too open to her father's manipulations (seeing she is the spawn of the devil in the quite literal sense, she even has fire coming out from her middle fingers' tips).
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: In the beginning of the episode, Satan is literally knocked out of a boy by his hysterical father after a minute of an ineffectual Hollywood Exorcism. He does it again when Chrissy possesses him.
  • Pedophile Priest: Inverted. Chrissy jokingly asks what "button to press" to make the boy kiss the priest when learning how to perform a Demonic Possession.
  • Sexual Euphemism: Chrissy struggles not to compare possessing people to non-consensual sex when Bennigan brings up the moral ramifications of it.
  • Shout-Out: The box Satan uses to dispose of Asmodeus resembles the Lament Configuration.
  • Take That!: Laura warns Chrissy that using her demon powers will eat away at her soul, until she is something akin to "a really successful CEO" (something Laura doesn't seem too bothered by).
  • Voices Are Mental: According to the Devil, it takes years for demons to learn how to avert this but Chrissy is a natural.
