Recap / Kipo And The Age Of Wonderbeasts S 3 E 08 Hidden Treasures

Go To

Kipo hopes that Prahm will lend the war with killer banjo and dance… but first she must convince the Mutes to forgive. Dr. Emilia smiles and schemes.

Tropes:

  • Armor-Piercing Response: When Dr. Emilia accuses Kipo of trying to trick the humans, she asks "Who holds a party during a war?" Nearly all of the burrow people respond "Kipo", affirming that they know Kipo well enough to know Prahm isn't a trick.
  • Backing Away Slowly: When Zane dances in front of some Timbercats, they awkwardly back away from him.
  • Big Damn Kiss: Benson and Troy finally kiss on the lips during their proposal for the Prahm.
  • Blank Stare: Fun Gus sports an uncomprehending expression as Troy delivers a Prahm invitation, before promptly attacking him with Combat Tentacles.
  • Blatant Lies: Dr. Emilia accepts Kipo’s offer of peace in the form of Prahm, saying there will be no tricks. Of course, none of the main cast does buy it.
  • Breather Episode: The main problem of this episode is caused by a pair of squirrels who hid the Prahm float (with the others inside) and forgot where they put it, which is slightly more light-hearted and comedic than the rest of the season. This comes before the last two episodes of the show.
  • Continuity Nod: When the mutes start naming off those who were cured into normal animals, one of them mentions Jeff the squirrel, but then remembers the Newton Wolves already ate him.
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: Kipo, Wolf, and Scarlemagne all have baggy eyes after following the singing treasure squirrels for a while.
  • Forgetful Jones: Both the Treasure Squirrels, they forget not only where they hide their “treasures”, but who Kipo and friends are. Towards the end Kipo tries writing her contact info on one’s hand, and a second later she declares she’s found a treasure map on her hand.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: When Kipo meets up with the Mutes again, the humans beg for a second chance, admitting that their experience with Scarlemagne does not justify them curing mutes.
  • A Friend in Need: Jamack and Scarlemagne are the only Mutes who stayed with Kipo, when the others gave up due to the Prahm.
  • Fun with Acronyms: P.R.A.H.M. (not to be confused with “Prom”) stands for Party Reconciling All Humans and Mutes.
  • Hope Spot: When it looks like Molly Yarnchopper is deciding to commit to Kipo’s P.R.A.H.M. idea, she tells Kipo and her friends to get out of Timbercat Village.
  • Malaproper: Wolf says Dr. Emilia is a “sabater” (saboteur), before Scarlemagne corrects her. When Kipo mispronounces the word as well, Scarlemagne grouses that she's doing it on purpose to annoy him.
  • Official Couple: Benson/Troy ship is canon.
  • Only One Finds It Fun: Shoelace McCutty is the only person who actually applauds at the P.R.A.H.M. song and dance invitation. Ruffles stops her from clapping though.
  • Out-of-Character Alert: Wolf senses that Emilia is planning something by pointing out how she agreed to come to P.R.A.H.M. with a smile on her face.
  • The Promposal: Benson wants to invite Troy to the Prahm. When he does, he learns that Troy was about to do the same to him.
  • Rage Breaking Point: It’s brief, but Kipo loses her cool and yells at the Treasure Squirrels to tell her where the float is hidden after enduring the squirrels’ antics for so long.
  • Red Herring: Kipo, Wolf, and Scarlemagne think that the disappearance of a flower basket, a ladder, and the giant float is Dr. Emilia’s doing. Turns out that a pair of Treasure Squirrels did steal the float, it was Troy who stole the rest.
  • Rhetorical Question Blunder: Emilia and the Mutes both question who would hold a dance party in the middle of a war, and both times Kipo's friends answer without hesitation that she would.
  • Rule of Three: Subverted. The word “Saboteur” is said wrong twice. The third time they say it correctly.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Zane worldessly completes his Heel Realization by abandoning Dr. Emilia and joining Kipo's cause.
  • Screwball Squirrel: The Treasure Squirrels are hyperactive and extremely absent-minded, almost instantly forgetting not only about the treasures they hid, but also what they said one minute ago. They cause the episode's conflict by stealing and hiding the Prahm float, then forgetting about it.
  • Traveling at the Speed of Plot: Despite the distance established between Trash Canyon, the Wolf Observatory, Timbercat Village, Cactus Town, Brunchington Beach, and the abandoned Science Burrow, Kipo and all her friends are able travel to and from all these places to propose a P.R.A.H.M. invitation to all the main mute groups in the span of an afternoon. Keep in mind they have to push around a giant float too.
  • Treasure Hunter: The Treasure Squirrels’ job. They find “treasures” and then hide them. The issue is they have to remember where they hide their treasures.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: The Mutes, sans Scarlamagne and Jamack, are none too pleased to Kipo's proposal to give humans one last chance to end peacefully the war in the form of P.R.A.H.M.
