Recap / Kim Possible S 4 E 2 The Big Job

Go To

Ron takes Kim out to dinner, embarrassing her by ordering from the kiddie menu so he can use a "kids eat free" coupon. After some nudging from Kim and Monique, Ron tries looking for a job, only to lose each of them after some mishap or other.

Meanwhile, Dr. Drakken rants to his cellmate Frugal Lucre that he will surely be broken out of prison any time now. A helicopter arrives, dangles a ladder near the window… and then moves off to another cellblock to blow a hole in Shego’s cell wall and fly her out. It turns out that Señor Senior, Jr. broke her out to help pull off “a big job” as a birthday present for his father.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Berate and Switch: When Junior tells Shego his Faked Kidnapping plan, she tells him it is the lowest, sneakiest, most underhanded plan she’s ever heard of, then says it’s perfect.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Ron's coupon book that so annoys Kim finally comes in useful for a couple of parasailing lessons, which they use to fly to the island.
  • Continuity Nod:
  • Contrived Coincidence: One of Junior’s kidnap victims happens to be Martin Smarty. And Ron meeting his idol happens to solve a certain problem Kim has with dating him, namely funds.
  • Depth Deception: One potential theft target turns out to be a gigantic sculpture — as Junior plaintively explains, “It did not look so large on the internet.”
  • Eleventy Zillion: Junior gets a bit overenthusiastic when he makes his ransom demand:
Señor Senior Junior: Hello everyone. If you are interested in having the five richest people in the world safely returned to you, you need to convey to us the sum of a bazillion zillion dollars. (lame attempt at an evil laugh)
Shego (offscreen): That’s not a real number.
Señor Senior, Jr.: But it sounds so impressive! And don’t you like my evil chortle?
Shego (pushes SSJ aside): Hi, he’s new at this. A billion dollars apiece will do just fine.
  • Faked Kidnapping: Junior and Shego claim to be holding the five richest people in the world for ransom while they're simply playing their usual card game on Senior's island.
  • For Inconvenience, Press "1": When Junior calls Smarty Mart to present his demands, their phone tree includes an option for it:
Phone Voice: Thank you for calling Smarty Mart. For customer service, press "1". For job opportunities, press "2". To demand an enormous amount of money for the safe return of our founder, press "3".
    Junior presses "3".
Phone Voice: Please enter the enormous amount of money you are demanding.
Junior: This is even easier than I anticipated!
Junior enters "1" followed by many zeroes.
  • Jumping Out of a Cake: Shego gets the wrong idea about what Junior wants her for:
Shego: Not to seem ungrateful Junior, but why did you break me out of prison?
Junior: Well, my father’s birthday is coming up—
Shego: Hold it right there, slick, I don’t do cakes, okay? I don’t bake 'em, and I don’t jump out of 'em.
  • Mid-Battle Tea Break: Kim and Shego briefly interrupt their fight in San Francisco to share their frustration about the parking situation as Ron and Junior try to find an open space.
  • Poor Communication Kills: As Junior and Shego make their getaways on jet skis, Kim calls the Tweebs to ask if they'd installed aquatic capability on the Sloth. They reply "Sure!", and Kim tries to pursue them into the water. Unfortunately, the Tweebs thought she'd asked if they could install aquatic capability, but had not actually done so.
  • Rock Star Parking: Averted—Ron and SSJ drive around looking for a parking space while Kim and Shego fight, until Shego abandons the heist and jumps back in the car.
  • Self-Made Man: It's revealed that Martin Smarty started working at age 10 and had only a popcorn cart back then. Nowadays he's one of the five richest people in the world.
  • So Proud of You: How SSS reacts when he learns about Junior's plan to "kidnap" him and his other rich friends.
  • [Verb] This!: When Shego finds Kim waiting for her at the San Francisco heist attempt:
Shego: Oh, great. How did you know?
    Kim: You're predictable.
Shego: Really, am I? Then predict this!
    (leaps and attacks)
  • Villains Out Shopping: Señor Senior, Sr. spends most of the episode having a card game with his fellow billionaires.
