Recap / I Carly S 03 Ep 01 I Think They Kissed

Go To

iThink they Kissed is the 1st episode in the 3rd season of iCarly. It is the direct sequel to "iKiss".

When Sam has to go to the dentist and she exposes her secret she kissed Freddie under nitrous oxide, Carly confronts them about why they never told her.

Meanwhile, Spencer teaches art class in prison.

Tropes:

  • The Bad Guy Wins: The escaped prisoners successfully make their getaway in Spencer's pants sculpture, then restrain the iCarly trio to chairs so they can't snitch on them. The trio are unable to break free in the end.
  • Bolivian Army Ending: The episode ends without revealing if Sam and Freddie liked their kiss or not, as well as if the escaped prisoners were ever recaptured or not. The gang also remains duct-taped to chairs as Spencer failed notice or untie them when he briefly returned to the apartment. When Carly, Sam, and Freddie try to get out of their predicament, they end up falling backwards instead.
  • Comical Overreacting: Carly somewhat finds it appropriate to have a breakdown upon hearing Sam and Freddie kissed. She doesn't even explain why it's such a big deal, other than she doesn't like them keeping secrets from her.
  • The Dentist Episode: The first half revolves around Sam going to the dentist.
  • Depraved Dentist: Sam THINKS this is what dentists are like. She hasn't been to the dentist in years, and she gets violently nervous when she hears that this operation involves drilling into her teeth. In addition, the name of the hospital is St. Agony's dental care.
  • Drama Queen: Carly, after hearing Sam and Freddie kissed.
  • Epic Fail: Carly, Sam, and Freddie try to get out of being tied up to chairs, but they end up falling down instead.
  • Failed a Spot Check: When Spencer came home to get his banjo, because he met a girl at a bakery he went to who was into banjo music, he was so excited he barely noticed Carly, Sam, and Freddie were duct-taped to the chairs by the prisoners he unintentionally helped escape, then leaves without untying them.
  • Flat "What": Carly's initial reaction when Sam, under control of laughing gas, tells her that she and Freddie kissed.
  • Gilligan Cut: One of the prisoners asks the iCarlys if they have any duct tape. Cue transition of them all duct taped to three chairs, with Freddie then chewing out Carly for actually TELLING them where it was.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
  • Laughing Gas: Downplayed. Sam acts loopy after being given nitrous oxide at the dentist. She's not laughing, though — just smiling.
  • Karma Houdini: There is no indication if the escaped prisoners who tied up Carly, Sam, and Freddie ever got caught.
  • Never My Fault:
    • Carly complains that it's not her fault they're tied up to chairs even after she showed the prisoners where the duct tape is, and blames Freddie instead for telling the prisoners they're calling the police.
    • Sam angrily blames Freddie for letting their kissing secret get to Carly, when it was her who told Carly. Though to be fair, Sam doesn't remember what happened while under the effects of the nitrous oxide. Once Sam realizes this, she's more contrite.
  • Non-Indicative Name: The staff at St. Agony's is actually very friendly, and not in a creepy way, even after Sam nearly held them hostage.
  • Sequel Episode: To "iKiss". Sam and Freddie kiss and promise never to tell anyone about it, Carly especially, and here Sam accidentally spills the beans under laughing gas, which enrages Carly.
  • That Came Out Wrong: Spencer asks the iCarlys what he should wear to prison, because he's going there tomorrow. Carly, in shock, asks if he downloaded anything illegal.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Sam continues to eat corn off the cob, even though she JUST lost a tooth from biting into it. It takes Carly to have to force it off of her.
  • Took a Level in Badass: When Carly and Freddie get into a wrestle as seen in "iPromise Not To Tell", she overpowers him and pins him to the ground. Here, HE is able to pin HER down when she wrestled him over whether he and Sam kissed. Carly even lampshades how he got stronger.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Carly herself, who starts abrasively mistreating Freddie and Sam (especially Freddie though), because they kissed behind her back and didn't tell her. She also starts pounding her fists on Spencer when he tells her to calm down, and Spencer starts comparing Carly to an abusive wife.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Spencer accepts the the giant pants he made with the prisoners, leading them to hide in the pants to escape, then tying up Carly, Sam, and Freddie when they discover the prisoners and Freddie tells them they're going to call the police.
  • The Worf Effect: For some reason, Sam lets herself get duct-taped to chairs by the escaped prisoners along with Carly and Freddie, despite being one of the strongest characters on the show. Though probably justified, as it would be safer to just let the prisoners walk out of Carly's apartment without putting up a fight.
