Nick reaches a Godzilla Threshold.

You will face yourself again in a moment of terror.

In order to stop the rise of Capt. Renard, Nick devises a plan that will take him out of his element.

Adalind and Monroe do everything in their power to keep the plan on track, while Eve and Rosalee race against time to get the spell ready before it is too late.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Addictive Magic: Nick is still drawn to the stick, shown when he takes it out to look at it and has trouble returning it to the box.
Nick: I... didn't want to put it back.
    Eve: Why not?
Nick: It felt like I might need it.
  • Blackmail Backfire: Jeremiah, the Black Claw member who suspects Renard of Rachel's murder, having seen him near her house at the time of her death. Renard, predictably, has him killed by Grossante, a Black Claw cop, in return for Grossante taking Renard's place as police chief.
Jeremiah: I loved her, and you killed her! [...] Why don't you think about how much it'll cost to keep my mouth shut?
  • Call-Back:
    • When discussing the symbols on the cloth with Eve, Nick asks how Diana could see so much that wasn't visible with spectral imaging. Eve reminds him of what his mother said in Synchronicity about Diana's special destiny.
    • Nick has the idea of undoing all Renard's plans by posing as him using the hat ritual, reminding the gang of the time Eve used it to get information out of Rachel.
    • Posing as Renard, Nick cites the massacre of North Precinct as his reason for stepping down as Mayor-elect.
    • When the gang decide to check if the Renard with them is really Nick, Adalind asks about their first kiss. He gives a couple of answers, both correct.
  • Cardboard Box of Unemployment: Hank and Wu both have these ready as they hand in their resignations to Renard.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Nick-as-Renard wears a blue tie. The real Renard wears a red tie, allowing us to know which is which. That is until the rooftop fight, where neither are wearing ties.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: When Nick turns into Renard, he's got Renard's woge on. The gang have to help him calm down until it goes away, and it sounds as if they're helping him make... something else go down. They stop short of telling him to think about baseball.
  • Eating the Eye Candy: It's Eve's idea for Nick to strip off before changing, and she seems pretty disappointed when everyone turns around to give him some privacy.
  • Fanservice: Nick strips to his boxers before turning into Renard, because Renard is larger than he is. This leads in due course to "Renard" appearing dressed only in boxers.
  • Foreshadowing: When Nick is about to do the hat ritual, Rosalee expresses some concerns about using it on a Grimm. Sure enough, the spell won't wear off, leaving Nick stuck looking like Renard until Diana sorts it out.
  • Gaslighting: Variation. Renard calls Nick just as the gang have realised they can't detransform Nick. At Eve's suggestion, Nick threatens that unless they can come to an understanding, Nick will continue to wreak havoc in Renard's life by posing as him until he ends up being committed. Renard agrees to meet for a talk.
Renard: The potion hasn't worn off, then.
Eve: [Whispered] And it won't unless we come to an agreement.
Renard!Nick: And it won't unless we come to an agreement.
  • Mirror Match: The real Renard fights Renard!Nick, more or less to a standstill.
  • Nightmare Face: Nick initially transforms into Renard with his woge on. The gang have to help him calm down so he can get rid of it.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • When Monroe stops by the mansion for Renard's hair and clothes for the hat ritual, Renard comes home early to change after killing Jeremiah. Monroe hides in the closet and Adalind persuades Renard that he has blood in his hair, so Monroe can sneak out while he takes a shower.
    • Nick tells Eve that, aside from a stomach cramp earlier, the spell shows no signs of wearing off. Eve reveals that the cramp should have been the end of it, meaning he's now stuck.
  • Shout-Out: The title is obviously a reference to Dead Poets Society, itself referring to a Walt Whitman poem.
  • Smug Snake: Discussed as Nick tries to get Renard's mannerisms down.
Monroe: You have to be more...Renardy...
Rosalee: You have to be more full of yourself.
    Eve: A lot more.
Monroe: Like you were just elected Mayor of Portland.
Rosalee: And you think you deserve it!
Eve: And you want Nick Burkhardt dead.
    Nick: [Death Glare]
    Monroe: That's it!
    Eve: Perfect!
    Rosalee: There you go!
  • Troll: When Hank enters the Spice Shop while Nick is transformed, Nick decides to test the illusion out.
Renard!Nick: I told you to give me your resignation.
Hank: I GAVE YOU MY DAMN RESIGNATION!
    Eve: Pretty good, huh?
  • Undercover Cop Reveal: Played with as Nick brings his Fugitive Arc to an end by posing as Renard and announcing that the manhunt against him was part of an undercover operation to bring the killers of the North Precinct to justice.
