Cthulu enters the Grimmverse.

A Man's real possession is his memory. In nothing else is he rich, In nothing else is he poor.

Captain Renard continues to fight for his life as a mysterious visitor arrives to help him. Nick and Hank turn their attention to a string of attacks where victims are left without their memories, and Trubel joins the investigation, putting herself in harm's way. Nick weighs whether or not he should regain his Grimm abilities.

In Vienna, Adalind is being held captive and learns that she is more connected than ever to Nick.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Big Damn Heroes: Renard's mother enters his room as he flatlines and saves his life with a mystical two-headed snake; one head bites his chest, the other bites hers and seemingly feeds him her life energy.
  • Call-Back: Wu finds the photo of Trubel from "Nobody Knows The Trubel I've Seen", and so knows that Nick's "criminology student" houseguest is a suspect in a double murder.
  • Cliffhanger: Nick suffers a painful Psychic Link with Adalind. A team led by Agent Chavez grabs Trubel and drags her into a van.
  • Crazy-Prepared: The Royals apparently have a Hexenbiest-proof dungeon.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Adalind is tight-lipped when Viktor ribs her for having "shagged a Grimm" and asks her how it was.
Viktor: I do wish I could've seen the look on Mr. Burkhardt's face when he realized he'd slept with you. How was it, by the way?
Adalind: I did what I had to do. I did it for my baby. It wasn't fun.
  • Go Mad from the Revelation: When the Gedachtnis Esser spy who attempts to latch onto Trubel's memories, he gains all her memories of her being a Grimm, which immobilizes him with fear and allows Nick and Hank to arrest him. He ends the episode in a jail cell a shrivelling mess, still suffering from bad Grimm memories.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Agent Chavez is reporting to someone, and presumably kidnaps Trubel on their orders.
  • Inspector Javert: Agent Chavez comes off as this regarding Trubel's killing of Weston, but in fact she's a Wesen who's realised there's a Grimm at the Burkhardt house. Having established that it's not Nick, she turns to Trubel.
  • Internal Reveal: Renard's mother learns that she's a grandmother.
  • Irony: Agent Chavez checks if Nick is a Grimm by going to the station and Woging while talking to him. Seeing nothing unusual, she turns her attention to Trubel. A day earlier, she would've had a very different answer.
  • "Leave Your Quest" Test: Nick losing his powers is being played like this, with him wondering if it might not be good for him and Juliette in the long run. Juliette, meanwhile, asks Monroe and Rosalee to hold off on finding a cure.
Juliette: No, no, no, it's not that I don't want you to help Nick, but being a Grimm hasn't exactly been the greatest thing for him or me. And Nick isn't so sure he wants this anymore. So what I'm trying to say is, maybe we should just give it a little time to see if not being a Grimm is better than being one. Yeah, there's a chance for us to have a normal life together.
  • Psychic Link: One appears to have formed between Nick and Adalind: they both experience a splitting headache simultaneously, and momentarily see out of each other's eyes.
  • Supernaturally Young Parent: Elizabeth Lascelles looks young enough to be Renard's sister rather than his mother. Renard explains that "she's had work done," presumably meaning her Hexenbiest powers.
  • Running Gag: The Gedachtnis Esser's hotel room number is 402, the episode number.
  • Tap on the Head: The Gedachtnis Esser ambushes Trubel and incapacitates her with a log from the woodpile.
  • Title Drop: Trubel refers to the Monster of the Week as "Octopus head" while trailing him.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Adalind lets herself get led right into Viktor's Hexenbiest-proof dungeon hoping to find her baby.
