Jim Gordon goes to Florida to seek Falcone's help; Bruce attempts to find out what Penguin had brought into the city. Riddler is retrieved from the ice by an obsessed fan, and the secret backer of Barbara's gun store is revealed.

  • Adaptational Attractiveness: Sofia Gigante Falcone is a large, hulking Brawn Hilda in the comics. Here, she's played by the very beautiful Crystal Reed.
  • Affably Evil: Falcone is curt, but not impolite when Jim drops in for a visit.
  • Broken Pedestal: Myrtle is noticeably disappointed when Nygma fails to answer children's riddles correctly.
  • Came Back Wrong: Being encased in ice for five months caused Nygma's muscles to atrophy, in addition to causing a yet-unknown level of brain damage.
  • Composite Character: Based on her Riddler-inspired dress and her offer to become Nygma's sidekick, Myrtle Jenkins can be seen as a combination of Query and Echo, two of the Riddler's henchwomen in the comics.
  • Daddy's Little Villain: Sofia Falcone is anxious to take over her father's criminal empire.
  • Evil Is Petty: As soon as Bruce bids $2 million, Penguin declares him the winner just to spite Barbara.
  • Imposter Forgot One Detail: Bruce does a passable job pretending to be a street kid looking for his uncle on the Penguin's cargo ship, but when he's caught in the wrong place he starts a sentence with "I assure you..." The foreman notices.
  • Large Ham: Bruce is clearly enjoying playing the "spoiled brat" role.
  • Loony Fan: Myrtle Jenkins is this to the Riddler.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • After Alfred encourages him to play the role of a spoiled brat at the Penguin's auction, Bruce refers to himself as "Bruce Wayne, billionaire brat". This is a nod to a common phrase in the comics, "Bruce Wayne, billionaire playboy".
    • Selina wears a black domino mask during her mission, a visual nod to her future Catwoman costume. Later on, Myrtle breaks into the Iceberg Lounge sporting goggles and headgear resembling cat ears. Time will only tell if Selina gets her hands on the gear herself.
  • Oh, Crap!: Penguin freaks out when he sees Nygma missing from his ice tomb.
  • Pet the Dog: Right before killing her, Victor tells Myrtle that he likes her dress. He seems genuine about it.
  • Promoted to Love Interest:
    • Sofia Falcone becomes Gordon's newest romantic interest.
    • If the ending was any indication, Ra's al Ghul and Barbara Kean are now an item as well, at least for the time being.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Ra's is nearly two thousand years old in the present day.
  • The Reveal:
    • We see Ra's Al-Ghul's origin: he was resurrected by another soldier in 125 A.D. and told to find an heir.
    • Barbara was resurrected by Ra's using the Lazarus Pit and he is the one backing her operation.
  • Spoiled Brat: Alfred encourages Bruce to affect this persona at the Penguin's auction.
  • Troll: The first few times Barbara bids on the knife, Bruce outbids her by exactly one dollar or one cent.
  • You Have Failed Me: Averted; when Barbara tells Ra's that Bruce has the knife he wanted, he's surprised, but not mad, since it's still useful for his plans.
  • You See, I'm Dying: The reason why Falcone won't come back to Gotham is because he's been diagnosed with a fatal illness.
