Recap / Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends S 4 E 8 The Big Cheese

Go To

Everyone is locked out of the house thanks to the new security system, and only Cheese knows the code to the door.

This episode provides the following examples of:

  • Absurd Phobia: When the residents of Foster's try to calm a screaming Cheese down by singing nursery rhymes, Cheese finds something scary in every one they try. In addition to fearing falling down, breaking something, and spiders, Cheese is also revealed to be afraid of sheep, cake, coco (blind mice), and not having a spoon.
  • "Be Quiet!" Nudge: To extract the code from Cheese, Frankie plays a game where she asks someone to name a song, and if they sing the song correctly, she will give them a piece of candy. Since she doesn't have any candy, she uses rocks instead. When Bloo is about to point out that the "candy" is really a rock, Frankie throws the rock at him to shut him up.
  • Brick Joke: This episode's Running Gag has Frankie task Wilt with buying an item. Wilt leaves, then comes back later with the item she originally asked for when she needs a different item for the situation. She has him buy light bulbs, a net, a book of nursery rhymes, and a box of candy.
  • Closest Thing We Got: Since Frankie doesn't actually have any candy, she uses rocks as a substitute in the game she comes up with to extract the code from Cheese. When Cheese sings the wrong song (a mangled version of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star") and Frankie denies him his "candy", he takes it anyway, only to find out "Candy is broken" when he tastes it. When Wilt returns from the store with a book of nursery rhymes that she asked from him earlier, Frankie makes Wilt go back to the store to buy real candy.
  • Continuity Nod: When Erin Peterson films Foster's, Bloo is at one point seen wearing the I♡FB hat from "World Wide Wabbit".
  • Get Out!: Throughout the episode, the residents of Foster's tell Cheese to go home.
  • Head Desk: Frankie bangs her head against the Foster's sign after finding out that the news crew is coming an hour earlier than she expected. Cheese thinks Frankie is playing a game and bangs his own head against the sign.
    Cheese: I like this game!
  • Horrible Judge of Character: When Erin Peterson arrives at Foster's an hour earlier than Frankie had expected, she grossly misjudges it based on everyone and everything around her. She calls the house an ancient, decrepit domicile fallen into a state of disrespair (thanks to everyone joining in with Cheese's dancing), and buys candy instead of the most basic articles of clothing (thanks to Wilt returning with the box of candy and Eduardo losing his Modesty Towel), and Frankie insensitive to the plight of the orphan friends (thanks to her yelling at Cheese to go home).
  • Literal-Minded: When Mr. Herriman enters the code for the new security system, he does it without looking at the keypad. When Frankie finds out about this, Herriman tells her that the instruction manual told him to enter a code at random. Frankie has to clarify that it didn't mean random every single time after reading the manual.
  • The Load: Bloo does little to help with the situation and chooses to laze around. Subverted near the ending where he helps everyone break the house.
  • Modesty Towel: Eduardo spends most of this episode in one due to having taken a shower early in the episode and being called outside the house by Mr. Herriman so the latter can demonstrate the new security system he bought to keep Cheese out before the former can get dressed.
Coco: Co coco coco coco coco?
Eduardo: No, this is not what I'm wearing for the news story! Ay caramba Coco, I would just die!
  • "Psycho" Shower Murder Parody: Early in the episode, Eduardo is seen taking a shower when Cheese sneaks up on him. Behind the shower curtain, only Cheese's silhouette is shown, making it look like he's holding a knife. However, when Cheese opens the curtain, he is revealed to be holding a carrot.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: This line from Cheese when he sneaks up on Eduardo in the shower:
    Cheese: I! FOUND! A! CARROT!
  • Running Gag:
    • Cheese being told to go home since he doesn't live in the Foster's residence.
    • Frankie asking Wilt to get her something, only for him to return with it sometime later when she needs something else.
  • Shout-Out: When Mr. Herriman accidentally locks every resident of Foster's outside to demonstrate his new security system he bought specifically to keep Cheese out, Frankie calls Herriman "Bugs Dummy".
  • Spiders Are Scary: Eduardo tries to calm a screaming Cheese down by singing "The Itsy Bitsy Spider". All it does is scare them both.
Eduardo: (singing) The Itsy Bitsy Spider...
    Eduardo and Cheese: Spiders? Aaaah!
  • The Stinger: During the closing credits, Cheese lists off various diseases that he may not actually have; scurvy, dandruff, athlete's foot, a tapeworm, mange, dermatitis, acne, enteritis, and tonsillitis.
  • Tempting Fate: When Frankie's plan to extract the code from Cheese through a game she comes up with doesn't work, she tells Mac to help her, saying that in all her life, she never met, seen, or ever heard of anymore more insane, or aggravating, or capable of driving her to the very brink of insanity. Cue Goo showing up.
  • Trash the Set: The residents of Foster's end up destroying the outside of the house to imitate what Cheese does so that they can extract the code from him. This comes back to bite them when Erin Peterson shows up and grossly misjudges the house based on its condition, among other things.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: After trashing the outside of the house, the residents of Foster's finally manage to extract the code from Cheese. Just as Mac is about to press enter, Cheese steps in front of the keypad, making the code invalid and setting off an alarm. Things get worse from there when Erin Peterson arrives and grossly misjudges Foster's based on the state of the house, Frankie yelling at Cheese, Wilt arriving with a box of candy, and Eduardo losing his Modesty Towel.
