The fifty-seventh episode of the first season of Dennis the Menace (1986).

Dennis the Businessman

When Dennis asks Mr. Wilson if he can borrow three dollars, Mr. Wilson tells Dennis to earn his money. Dennis tries to do so by going into various trades like giving his friends haircuts, selling some of Mr. Wilson's old clothes (which Mr. Wilson doesn't approve of), and repairing some of his appliances, which leads to a big mess at his house. Fortunately, Dennis is able to earn enough money to buy a bouquet of flowers for Mr. Wilson to give to his wife on their anniversary. Martha, aware that Dennis bought the flowers, tells Mr. Wilson to bake Dennis cookies as a reward.

Soccer It To Me, Dennis

Dennis' soccer team, the Raccoons, keep losing games, so PeeBee produces a solution at his laboratory that creates a bouncing effect. When he applies it to the Raccoons' sneakers, it enables them to win their way to the championship game. Unfortunately, by this time, the solution runs out and the kids need to depend on their own skills to win. Through teamwork, they're able to pull out a victory.

Camp Over Here-Over There

In the wilderness, the boy scout and girl scout camps play pranks on each other, driving their camp counselors crazy. When they get fed up, the counselors call the parents to take their children home. Once the kids are gone, the counselors are finally alone and are able to row their canoes toward each other at the lake for a romantic evening. Unfortunately, they become victims of the kids' last prank that they didn't get to play against each other, as holes drilled into their respective canoes cause them to sink and leave them all wet.

"Dennis the Businessman" provides examples of:

  • Didn't Think This Through: When Mr. Wilson does not approve of Dennis' hair-cutting business, he tells Dennis that when he was young, he sold things to earn money. When Dennis asks Mr. Wilson if he minds if he sold things, Mr. Wilson tells him he doesn't mind what he sells. Dennis and Tommy then go through Mr.Wilson's drawers and sell his clothes.
  • Domestic Appliance Disaster: Dennis does this to all of Mr. Wilson's electronic devices when he attempts to fix them. The washing machine floods Mr. Wilson's house with soap bubbles, the vacuum cleaner spreads dust around the house rather than suck it up, and every channel on the TV shows cartoons.
  • Forgotten Anniversary: Mrs. Wilson gets angry at Mr. Wilson for forgetting their anniversary. Fortunately for them, the reason why Dennis was trying to earn money was so he could buy a bouquet of flowers for it.
  • Owls Ask "Who?": Discussed; when Mr. Wilson sees Tommy's new haircut, he exclaims "Your hair! Who? Who? Who?" Dennis then says "Sounds like there's an owl in here!"
  • Pet the Dog: Dennis' reason for wanting to earn money in this episode was so he could buy a bouquet of flowers for the Wilsons' anniversary. This manages to save Mr. Wilson when he forgets said anniversary.
  • Shout-Out: When Mr. Wilson turns on his TV after Dennis "fixes" it, the TV plays the theme tune to The Littles.

"Soccer It To Me, Dennis" provides examples of:

  • Artistic License – Sports: During practive, Lars uses a hockey stick to stop the ball from going into the Raccoons' goal.
  • Underdogs Never Lose: When the Raccoons keep losing games, PeeBee produces a solution that creates a bouncing effect. He applies it to the Raccoons' sneakers, enhancing their abilities and allowing them to score victories over the opposing teams, eventually making their ay to the championship game against the Bears. Unfortunately, by this time, the solution runs out and the kids needs to depend on their own skills to win. Through teamwork, they are able to pull out a victory.

"Camp Over Here-Over There" provides examples of:

  • Brats with Slingshots: Surprisingly done with Margaret rather than with Dennis himself; one of the girls' pranks involves pelting the boys with bugs from a hot air balloon. Margaret fires her slingshot to release the bugs, but Gwendolyn catches her with it and confiscates it. She then says she always wanted to try one of them, and uses it, breaking down the shower at Camp Over Here and revealing Sidney showering naked inside, causing him to flee in embarrassment.
  • Bucket Booby-Trap: Margaret, Gina, and Maria set this kind of trap for Dennis, PeeBee, and Tommy. Sidney sets off this trap and blames Dennis for it.
  • Exact Words: After Gwendolyn breaks down the shower at Camp Over Here, exposing a naked Sidney inside, the counselors of both camps tell their scouts not to swim, sail, or fly over the lake, and no running around it or attempting to walk across. Dennis PeeBee, and Tommy attempt to dig under the lake, saying nobody said they couldn't do it.
  • Girls vs. Boys Plot: Dennis, Tommy, and PeeBee who attend Camp Over Here, a boy scout camp, and are at a prank war against Margaret, Gina, and Maria, who are at Camp Over There, a girl-scout camp.
  • Human Ladder: Dennis, PeeBee, and Tommy form one as they vandalize a photo on the arch of Camp Over Here. Dennis is on top, PeeBee is in the middle, and Tommy is on the bottom. Tommy complains fromall the weight he's carrying.
  • Modesty Towel: Sidney dons one after Gwendolyn breaks down the shower with Margaret's slingshot.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: The scouts of Camp Over Here all wear blue shirts, while the scouts of Camp Over There all wear pink shirts.
