The Red Dragon

  • All for Nothing: The party hoped of reach Falin before she is digested by the dragon. If she does die, then they can revive her should the body remain intact. Unfortunately, after its defeat, they dig through the dragon's innards to find she is reducted to bones.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Averted. Laios loses his left leg while delivering the final blow to the dragon but Marcille puts it back in place when the battle is over.
  • Attack Its Weak Point: Laios reveals that every dragon's weak point is a tender portion under it's head that isn't covered by scales. Only a single but effective stab to that point, also known as an 'inverse scale' will ensure an instant death to the dragon.
  • Bathos:
    • While running from the dragon, Chilchuck accuses Namari of lying about how Senshi's pot is immune to it's fire power. Namari makes a chibi appearance and assures the audience that she wasn't lying.
    • When they're cornered underneath the Red Dragon, Chilchuck laments that they'll have to live under his crotch area from now on.
  • Beat the Curse Out of Him: Little Falin uses a stick to beat the ghost that was possessing Laios out of his body.
  • Blood from the Mouth: Senshi ends up spewing blood after being crushed by the dragon's claw.
  • Cliffhanger: While carving their way through the dragon's intestines, the group finds Falin's staff and her skull.
  • Continuity Nod: Laios brings up Marcille using an explosion move while fighting the undine when discussing his ultimate plan.
  • Curse Cut Short: After Marcille uses her healing magic on Chilchuck, he wakes up screaming "MOTHERFU-" before resorting to regular agonized screaming.
  • Defiant to the End: Discussed. Just before sacrificing himself to distract the dragon, Senshi brings up how every monster he and his friends have eaten have always fought until their bitter ends. And just like them, Senshi hopes to do the same while fighting the dragon.
Senshi: Its eat or be eaten here. If we don't give our all, then we're gonna be some monster's dinner. Prepare yourself!
  • Deliberate Injury Gambit: Once Laios gets close enough to the Crimson Creature, he willingly sticks his leg into it's mouth so it can chomp on it. Doing so grants him the support and leverage needed to hit it's weak spot.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Laios and Senshi are able to survive the dragon's fire breath thanks to the dwarf's pans and Marcille's protection spells. What they didn't take into account was how they would still be burned from the pan's heat.
  • Don't Celebrate Just Yet: Marcille activates her explosion spell which blows up the bridge and successfully crashes on the dragon. Marcille is slightly relieved that it worked, only for the dragon to emerge unaffected.
  • Explosion Propulsion: Laios final plan to take down the Red Dragon is to propel himself to the monster's head using Marcille's explosions and Senshi's pan as a base.
  • Eye Scream: To protect Senshi, Chilchuck chucks the mithril knife straight into the dragon's eye.
  • Flashback: As he passes out from the dragon's last attack, Laios thinks back to his childhood and how he and his sister went to visit a ghost at a local graveyard.
  • Formula-Breaking Episode: This episode is the first to not feature a cooking segment.
  • Foreign-Language Tirade: Chilchuck summons every known swear word from every language around the world to curse out Laios for his stupidity.
  • Godzilla Threshold: After losing his axe, Senshi pulls out a special kitchen knife that's made of mithril. Despite its puny stature, it's sharp enough to pierce the dragon's skin.
  • Heroic Sacrifice:
    • Senshi volunteers to distract the dragon to give Laios and Chilchuck a chance to escape.
    • Chilchuck immediately follows suit to save Senshi and to send Laios to think of a new plan with Marcille.
  • I See Dead People: Played With. Ghost magic is a real concept in the dungeon world where people can see and interact with ghosts. It just came to a surprise to the Touden family that their daughter Falin could hear Old Man Olman and how he was cursed with an Elven ring.
  • In Medias Res: The beginning of the grand battle starts with Marcille preparing the incantation markings to blow up the building, just like her friends planned.
  • Pardon My Klingon: After learning that Laios has been stowing a monster in his sword, a furious Chilchuck starts insulting him in his language.
  • P.O.V. Cam: A rather morbid example. In the anime, the second to last shot of the episode is Laios' face... seen from the inside of his sister's skull.
  • Rainbow Puke: For whatever reason, Chilchuck's puke is glowing and sparkly when he throws up after Marcille heals him.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome:
    • Marcille uses healing magic to rapidly heal Chilchuck and Senshi from their wounds and broken bones. It works as intended... except once she finishes with the spell, they both feel immense pain. Repairing the body quickly may heal your wounds, but it's still a painful process since your bones & organs are being readjusted.
    • The party took several days to find the Red Dragon at a leisurely pace, convinced that Falin's body would be mostly intact due to the dragon's slow digestive system. They learned the hard way that, like real animals, an actively moving dragon would inadvertently increase its metabolism and hasten the digestive system, which reduces Falin's body into a pile of bones.
  • Tap on the Head: Chilchuck loses consciousness after a block of cement falls on him while he's trying to protect Senshi.
  • Tempting Fate: As Laios is lying on the floor, the dragon hovers above him presenting his weak spot in his neck for Laios to stab at. To everyone's misfortune, his mollusk sword tries to flee from the scene and lands several feet away from him.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Senshi is absolutely petrified with having Marcille use her healing magic on him after seeing the tremendous amount of pain Chilchuck suffered through just a few moments ago.
  • We Need a Distraction: The first step in luring the dragon is to get it's attention which Laios does by banging on Senshi's pot.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Chilchuck sees Laios' sword flying out of his hands on its own. It doesn't take him long to figure out that the sword he took from the living armor is one itself.
  • Wrecked Weapon: Senshi ends up losing his axe after trying to strike the dragon's foot.
