Go To

There are new arrivals in Baker Street: Sergeant Andy Davidson, and the helpful Mr Bird.

The Doctor isn’t happy that someone else in the house is more useful than he is. When the residents’ TVs start to malfunction, he suspects foul play.

Someone is watching...

Must-See TV contains examples of:

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Mr Bird is polite, friendly and helpful, ingratiating himself with all of the tenants in the Baker Street house easily. He's also plotting against the Doctor.
  • Continuity Nod:
  • Has a Type: According to Andy, Tania has one and Liv is very much it.
    Liv: And what type's that?
    Tania: Moody.
  • Have We Met Yet?: Andy and Tania go to great lengths to keep the Doctor from finding out who they really are, as they know it's much too early in his life for him to know about Torchwood.
  • Hypocritical Humour: After telling Robin that only boring people get bored, the Doctor later moans to Helen about how bored he is. Helen calls him out on it and he acknowledges his own hypocrisy.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: The Doctor makes this warning to Tania about Liv, though as she points out it's more likely to be the other way around (he agrees).
  • In Love with the Mark: A mild case as she isn't an assassin, but Tania is beginning to fall for Liv and feels conflicted about hiding who she is from her.
  • It Won't Turn Off: The first sign of the electronics in the house behaving strangely is Ron and Tony's television switching itself back on after being turned off. And after being unplugged.
  • Jumped at the Call: Helen notes that the Doctor is positively delighted to discover they're being spied on through extraterrestrial technology. He tries to deny it, but he is secretly hoping for an alien invasion to thwart.
  • Keeping Secrets Sucks: Liv and Tania are both keeping major secrets from one another (Liv is a time traveler from another planet, Tania is a Torchwood operative) and they both know that the other one is keeping secrets but neither can tell each other the truth. It puts a strain on their developing relationship and they both agree to simply not ask uncomfortable questions of one another so they don't have to lie.
  • Me's a Crowd: Mr Bird turns up in multiple places at the same time.
  • Projected Man: The Doctor is able to force the alien surveillance technology to activate, causing a projection of Mr Bird to appear. He can see and hear them and makes sure the Doctor knows he is being watched.
  • The Reveal: Tania is an agent for Torchwood, the latest in a line of agents living in the house on Baker Street, waiting for a time when the Doctor will return to it.
  • Rousing Speech: The Doctor attempts to do this for Robin to help him out of his funk and convince him that things in his life will get better. His alternating Brutal Honesty and odd references dull the effect somewhat.
Robin: You know, your pep talks are a bit hit and miss.
  • Shaped Like Itself:
The Doctor: Is this the best screwdriver you have? All it does is... drive screws.
  • Sinister Surveillance: There are cameras hidden in every room of the house that the Doctor discovers and is able to tap into. Torchwood have also bugged Tania's room because she had stopped reporting in.
  • The Television Talks Back: Mr Bird attempts to contact Robin through his TV, as well as a psychic influence.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: Robin's father is always working or on his cell phone and his mother, who supposedly also lives in the house, is never seen at all.
