Fogg's decision to help a U.S. Marshall transport a prisoner across the Rockies backfires in spectacular fashion when he and Passpartout are taken hostage. It's up to Abigail to save the men, hopefully in time to catch the train to New York.

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch Gunshot: Happens to Fogg after his failed Groin Attack during the fight, when Bass Reeves shoots the man before he can shoot Fogg.
  • Big Damn Heroes: When Fogg, Passpartout and Reeves are hed hostage in the saloon, Abigail comes to the rescue by riding through the doors on a horse, shooting bad guys left and right.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: The menu at the saloon where the gang stop for dinner is somewhat limited.
Bartender: Bacon... beans... bacon and beans.
Passpartout: Are you going to ask for the wine menu as well?
  • Category Traitor: Abernathy views Fogg in this way for not sharing his White Supremacist views, claiming he's been "corrupted" by his travels. During the hostage situation in the bar, he's especially insistent on forcing Fogg to act against his principles by hurting Passpartout.
  • Chekhov's Gun/ Chekhov's Skill: When Abigail expresses an interest in guns, having learned to shoot from her father, Reeves gives her Abernathy's "elegant" six-shooter to keep. Later, she uses it to save the menfolk in spectacular fashion.
  • Cliffhanger: The trio arrive in New York and are beset by reporters, as Fogg recognises the clock from the postcard Estella sent him.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Fogg is startled when Abigail him warns that their driver, Sally, is attracted to him, leaving him flustered when the lady herself expresses an interest.
  • Concealment Equals Cover: During the saloon shootout, Abigail uses a wooden table for cover. It seems pretty unlikely to stop bullets, but it works.
  • Cut Phone Lines: Abigail realises something's wrong when the telegraph stops working.
Operator: Either the bank's gettin' robbed, or someone's gettin' murdered.
    Abigail: [Oh, Crap! face]
  • Delaying Action: Passpartout has just persuaded Fogg that he won't be responsible for cutting off his finger with a gun to his head when he sees Abigail outside, gesturing him to stall for time. He screams, "STOP!" and starts instructing a bewildered Fogg how to amputate his finger properly, telling him - and Reeves - to "be prepared."
  • Destination Defenestration: There's a fight in a saloon; obviously someone leaves through the window.
  • Fingore: Averted. Abernathy orders Fogg to cut off one of Passpartout's fingers, claiming he'll let Fogg leave unharmed if he does, but Passpartout and Reeves will be killed. Passpartout even urges him to do it, telling him he won't be responsible as he's literally acting with a gun to his head. However, it's prevented by Abigail's Big Damn Heroes moment.
  • Groin Attack: Attempted by Fogg on a giant Mook during the saloon fight. It doesn't work, and nearly gets him shot.
  • Hate Sink: Ambrose Abernathy is the head of the Ku Klux Klan. He sees nothing wrong with having murdered African Americans and views the charges against him for doing so as trumped-up. He especially hates Fogg for not sharing his views.
  • Historical Domain Character: Bass Reeves was a real person, the first black U.S. Marshall, with a record of 3 000 arrests and the real-life inspiration for The Lone Ranger. Artistic Licence – History is also in play, however, as the series is set in 1872, three years before Reeves became a Marshall.
  • Hypocrite: Abernathy pleads that Fogg and Passpartout wouldn't kill an unarmed man, apparently forgetting that his own men killed the bartender to rescue him.
  • If You Kill Him, You Will Be Just Like Him!: Reeves talks Passpartout down from rising to Abernathy's baiting, later talking him out of killing the man, because "we have to be better than him."
  • Maligned Mixed Marriage: Abernathy picks up on the growing attraction between Abigail and Passpartout and tells Fogg he must nip that in the bud straight away, as in the absence of Abigail's father Fogg is responsible for her reputation. He's deeply unimpressed when Fogg, not understanding his main point, resolves to get out of their way and stop "gooseberrying."
  • A Real Man Is a Killer: This is Abernathy's view, and he looks down on Fogg for his unwillingness to use violence. Reeves on the other hand, despite being a seasoned Marshall who has killed more than once just that day, clearly lives by the view that a real man kills only when necessary to protect people.
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: The trio learn that they're believed to be dead from Bass Reeves. Abigail is upset that her father thinks she's dead, but the other two advise her not to tell him otherwise, so that Bellamy won't know to set Kneedling on them again. She sends him a telegram anyway.
Reeves: Are you sayin' someone tried to kill you?
    Fogg: No! No, no...
    Abigail & Passpartout: Yes!
  • Spotting the Thread: Fogg tracks down Abernathy after the saloon fight by spotting a blood trail outside and following it.
