Katie Ka-Boom: Call Waiting: Katie's dad forgets to take a message from one of Katie's friends.

"With Three You Get Eggroll" provides examples of:

  • Egg Sitting: Justified, as they're birds.
  • Swapped Roles: Pesto ends up in Squit's role when Sasha does his "DAT'S IT!" bit to him.

"Mermaid Mindy" provides examples of:

  • Alliterative Title: Mermaid Mindy.
  • Badly Battered Babysitter: Buttons. He gets his head stuck in the porthole of a sunken ship, gets eaten and spit out by a giant clam, gets strangled by an octopus, gets bounced around the ocean, gets tossed into a pile of sea urchins, gets electrocuted by an electric eel, and gets eaten, spit out, and chased by a shark, all just to keep Mindy safe.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Mindy is returned home safely, but Mindy's Mom punishes Buttons for ruining her kelp garden (as the shark chased him through it). However, Mindy does hug Buttons and tell him she loves him.
  • Chasing a Butterfly: Mindy chasing a jellyfish is what sets off this episode's plot.
  • Clam Trap: A giant clam has a pearl necklace on its tongue to lure unsuspecting sea creatures to it. It first catches and eats a small fish, then when Mindy tries to take its necklace, Buttons pushes her out of the way just in time, resulting in him getting eaten (fortunately, the clam spits him out).
  • Denied Food as Punishment: Mindy's Mom punishes Buttons for ruining her kelp garden by telling him he won't get a treat.
  • Psycho Electric Eel: When Mindy comes to a polluted part of the sea, an electric eel pops out of a barrel and chases her. Buttons saves Mindy from the eel, but gets electrocuted by it in the process.
  • Sea Hurtchin: When two fishermen catch Buttons and toss him back into the ocean, Buttons lands in a pile of sea urchins, which put him in pain. He spends the next scene pulling the urchins out of his tail fin.
  • Shout-Out: This episode is set to calypso music, a reference to the song, "Under the Sea" from The Little Mermaid (1989). In addition, Buttons encounters an electric eel who resembles Flotsam and Jetsam.
  • Sneeze of Doom: Invoked; when Buttons gets strangled by an octopus, he tickles the octopus' nose to get him to sneeze him out of his clutches.
  • So Proud of You: King Neptune congratulates Mindy for saving a porpoise trapped in a net.
  • Tentacled Terror: Mindy comes across a giant octopus. Buttons saves her from it, but gets caught in its tentacles as a result.
  • Threatening Shark: A shark tries to eat Mindy. Buttons tries to save her, but King Neptune pulls her out of the way just in time, which results in the shark eating Buttons. Fortunately, the shark spits him out, along with the other fish it ate earlier. Said shark also chases Buttons through Mindy's Parents' kelp bed, which results in Buttons getting punished.
  • Under the Sea: The entirety of the cartoon takes place underwater, not unlike the 1989 Disney film, The Little Mermaid, whose famous song is the Trope Namer.
  • X-Ray Sparks: Happens to Buttons when he gets electrocuted by the electric eel.

"Katie Ka-Boom: Call Waiting" provides examples of:

  • Here We Go Again!: Said word-for-word by Katie's Mom when Katie is about to go into one of her violent outbursts.
  • Karma Houdini: Katie gets no comeuppance for destroying her parents' house with her violent outbursts.
  • Phone Aholic Teenager: In this episode, Katie hides in a closet carrying three conversations on a phone with a long, tangled cord for her mother to trace. Later, a boy from school tries to call Katie while her dad is on the phone, and when her dad takes the call but doesn't catch the boy's name for her, she goes ka-boom. Also, Katie's monster form in this episode is a giant telephone.
