Go To

Continues from De Slag Om Polderstadt (Escape From The Crows Party)

The people are tired of Dolf's tyranny and start rioting, but he still has more than enough support to keep the situation under his control. Managing to sneak inside the castle's walls, Alfred and Rangpang try to come up with a plan to get all the coins out of the country.

Tropes:

  • Arms Dealer: Dolf is talking to one over the phone near the episode's end when Geppe rushes in to interrupt.
  • Bad Boss: After learning their vault is empty, Dolf starts accusing Geppe and choking him.
  • Dub Name Change: The finnish dub renames the rat couple Nipsu (the wife) and Napsu (the husband).

  • Chekhov's Gun: Dolf's yellow beak is revealed to his followers, causing doubts.
  • Corrupt Church: Having previously been open to negotiating with coup-plotting pseudo-Nazis and only rejected them due to their lack of money, the archbishop now cheerfully accepts the 4000 gold coin deal to throw in with the NCP.
  • Cue Card: Dolf reads from one during his speech, hidden in the palm of his right hand. You can see his eyes going there while he talks.
  • Dub Name Change: The rats are named Nipsu (the wife) and Napsu (the husband) in the finnish dub.
  • Final Solution: After a rat attacks him in the dinner, Dolf orders a genocide on mice. We see redshirts storming a room where there are mice, threatening to shoot them.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus:
    • A redshirt is lying on the side door's bridge in at least two shots, possibly just exhausted or unconscious or possibly dead.
    • In the shot where Alfred and Rangpang pass the injured redshirts, two are posed in a way that suggest the lying one is bleeding from the stomacch or chest and the other one is trying to stop the bleeding.
    • There is also another pair in the same scene, where one lies on the ground with his eyes closed, looking dead, and the other kneels next to him doing nothing, looking sad.
    • Near the episode' end, we see that Alfred's and Henk's meal includes an entire fish, despite the fact that they fiercely protected fishes just in the previous arc.
  • Hollywood Darkness: Even when compared to the series' earlier and later night scenes.
  • I've Come Too Far: Dolf swears to Alfred that he'll never lose and will somehow rise again.
  • Les Collaborateurs: The royal chefs are working for the NCP now.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: Not just siblings, but Igor's family is big enough to seemingly carry all the coins at once with one sparrow taking one coin.
  • Milking the Giant Cow: Dolf during his dream speech.
  • A Nazi by Any Other Name: The National Crows' Party has been Nazi-like from the beginning, but it's only now that we seem to get to the race part.
  • Nobody Here but Us Statues: When Alfred and Rangpang hear Geppe coming, they jump on the rail and pretend to be statues. Geppe doesn't notice anything, despite the statues being white and Alfred and Rangpang wearing red clothes.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Geppe flees Polderstadt soon after Dolf choked him, fearing reprisals from king Franz. He advises Dolf to do the same.
  • Spoiler Title: The english title rather strongly implies that this is the arc's end.
  • Sunglasses at Night: Igor, again.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • Dolf's yellow beak being revealed to his followers could have played a larger role.
    • The random redshirt who finds and steals a fallen coin could have gotten the blame for the theft.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Dolf after he reads Geppe's letter. You could argue that it starts with his dream moments prior, where everybody except Alfred abandons him.
  • Voiceover Letter: When Dolf reads Geppe's letter.
  • We Will Meet Again: Dolf ends the episode paying Alfred a visit to tell him that he knows he is responsible for his downfall and swearing revenge upon him.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Igor is never heard from again after this episode.
  • You Are What You Hate: Dolf is revealed to be a halfblood crow to his supporters when a mouse throws a block of cheese at his face, removing a bit of shoe polish from his yellow beak. Dolf's attempt to cover it up by claiming it's cheese turning it yellow backfires as he rubs off even more shoe polish.
