Basic Trope: A student and teacher (or professor) cut a sex-for-grades (or graduation) deal.

  • Straight:
    • Alice is failing her college algebra course. She asks Professor Bob what she can do for a grade increase, and he offers to increase her grade in return for her spending a night in the sack with him.
    • Bob insists that all grades are final and if she wants a better one, she'll have to earn it; but then Alice offers to sleep with him to "earn" that grade, and Bob accepts.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Alice is not a college student, a high school student, or even a junior high school student, but an elementary school girl!
    • Alice "goes all the way" and actually marries Professor Bob for that grade.
    • Alice has a weekend of mindblowing sex in exchange for Bob bumping her up from a 99 to 100.
    • Alice is failing multiple classes, and has an orgy with all of her teachers in exchange for all of them improving her grades in their respective class.
  • Downplayed: Alice and Bob don't actually cut any deals, but she's heard that if she wears Stripperiffic outfits to class and behaves seductively, this has a way of improving his opinion of her academic performance such that he'll give her a better grade. This rumor turns out to be true.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted:
    • Alice has a crush on Professor Bob, and finds out that what really turns him on is a girl's sharing his passion for mathematics. So she studies hard to earn all the highest grades in Bob's class and comes to his office "seeking extra credit" as an excuse for having private conferences where she tries to seduce him.
    • They never had one of these deals going before, but after their sordid and ill-advised Teacher/Student Romance ends in a nasty breakup, Bob alters the grades and flunks Alice, who'd actually been doing just fine in his class.
    • Alice meet Professor Bob outside of class, being unaware of his profession. Later when Alice discovers her former lover teaching her class, she blackmails him by threatening to expose their relationship.
  • Subverted:
    • Bob and Alice seem to be cutting one of these deals, but we later find out out he asked her for something else instead of sex.
    • They manage to close the deal, but then he doesn't give her the better grade or she somehow manages to get the better grade and cheat him out of getting any sex from her.
    • This punch line: "Anything? How about studying the material."
  • Double Subverted:
    • While singing the song Bob asked Alice to sing for him might not be sex in the strictest sense of the word, her performance necessarily involves pole-dancing, a striptease, and a lap-dance in his private studio with him wearing nothing but his boxers, and its lyrics are downright obscene.
    • When Bob tries to cheat her out of the better grade, Alice blackmails him into giving it to her anyway by threatening that she'll expose his crime to the authorities;
    • Alice manages to cheat him out of the sex after passing his class, Bob hunts her down and "collects his due" by raping her.
  • Parodied:
    • The school is such a sleazy and sordid institution that all the students get their grades this way and no one knows what to think when one innocent young transfer student tries to earn her grades legitimately by studying.
    • Alice says she'll do anything. Bob replies, "Anything?" Gilligan Cut to Alice and Bob having an actual study session... while Alice grumbles to herself.
    • Alice has sex with Bob for a very minimal grade increase, like changing her F to a D-, changing a F-- to a regular F, or being entitled those last few bonus points she missed out on.
    • The "sex" in question is G-Rated Sex.
    • Every teacher in the school got their position by wooing the superintendent. Including the very old teachers.
    • Alice has a C- in sex ed, and asks Bob for a chance to increase her grade by "showing her skills in practice". The sex is so dull and awkward that he instead changes her grade to a D.
  • Zig Zagged: Professor Bob and Alice have one of these deals going, but Carol isn't able to cut the same deal with him because she's ugly; and he's actually got a huge crush on Denise, who's earning those grades perfectly legitimately, because she's the one who has a real passion for math.
  • Averted:
    • When Alice comes looking for better grades from Professor Bob, he blows off her offer to sleep with him and tells her to study harder instead.
    • When Professor Bob offers Alice a better grade if she'll sleep with him, she refuses, and tries to get him arrested/fired/both.
  • Enforced:
    • "Let's make this story Hotter and Sexier."
    • It's part of an adult film/book/game/etc.
    • Catholic Schoolgirls Rule
    • "How can we establish that this teacher is not just incompetent, but downright evil?" "Well, we could have him force a student who needs a better grade to sleep with him."
  • Lampshaded: "You know, Professor, I'd do anything to get an A!"
  • Invoked:
    • Some characters making a pornographic movie include a scenario involving a student making one of these deals with a professor.
    • A couple of characters sometimes role-play this scenario with each other in the bedroom as part of their love life.
    • Bob becomes a professor specifically so he can manipulate his students' grades until they're desperate enough to sleep with him.
    • Alice has a crush on Bob. She tanks her grade hoping he'll offer to bump it up in exchange for bumping her.
  • Exploited:
    • Principal Cello knows about and subtly encourages these deals between teachers and students like Alice and Bob by pretending to turn a blind eye to them... while secretly gathering archives of incriminating pictures and video footage so she can blackmail the teachers into compliance if any of them try to revolt against her reign of terror.
    • Alice, having altered her grades without Bob's help, claims that Bob coerced her once someone discovers her grades are faked.
    • Charlie is running against Alice for office, and quietly publicizes rumors that she earned her degree on her back. He can't prove the rumors are true, but it doesn't matter.
  • Defied:
    • Professor Bob may be a pervert, but he's no pushover, and Alice can't seduce him into giving her any better grades despite being ravishingly beautiful.
    • Alice knows that Professor Bob is into cutting these deals with students and is tempted to take the easy way out when she's doing poorly in his class, but she decides to tough it out and study harder instead.
  • Discussed: "Alice? That bimbo? She's got more bust size than brains. No way is she earning those grades legitimately! Do you think maybe she's been sucking up to the teacher?" "Oh, I wouldn't say that; more like going down on the teacher, if you know what I mean."
  • Conversed: "Of course, that's not usually the way it goes in real life. If you ever find a professor who will agree to giving you better grades for sex, you can bet he won't be around for long."
  • Implied: "Day after day, they sit in his class and learn nothing. The girls don't know anything more than the boys and they do just as terrible on all of his exams, but for some reason they're passing while the boys are failing. Sound suspicious to you?"
  • Deconstructed: The fact that Alice isn't as capable as her grades would imply is noticeable to anyone who actually is. Thus it wouldn't be difficult to realize something is up, meaning Professor Bob will inevitably be questioned about Alice's suspicious grades.
  • Reconstructed: Professor Bob, realizing it would be suspicious if Alice's grades improved while she doesn't, uses their 'sessions' and relationship to trick her into actually learning something. In addition, he has Alice redo her papers with the correct answers so he can genuinely claim that she legitimately got her grades.
  • Played For Laughs: Alice got a D- on her test, so she goes to Professor Bob's office, has sex with him and leaves with an A. It turns that the incredibly sheltered Daniel heard the whole thing, and now he wants to know what was going on so he can do the same and get better grades too. Cringe Comedy ensues.
  • Played For Drama:
    • Not being genuinely skilled like her grades suggest, Alice is worse off once she enters adult life. Being unable to maintain any good jobs due to lack of education and determination, the only thing Alice is skilled for would be offering her body.
    • Alice offers to have sex with Bob in exchange for a better grade, but he tells her to sod off and flunks her. She retaliates by claiming that he flunked her because she refused his advances, and his career goes downhill as a result.
    • Alice needs better grades and tries to ask Professor Bob for help. He instead pressures her to sleep with him.
