Playing With / Pantsless Males, Fully-Dressed Females

Go To

Basic Trope: Female characters wear more clothing than the males.

  • Straight: Bob the Dog only wears a shirt, but Alice the Cat wears a full set of clothes, including shoes.
  • Exaggerated: The male characters are completely nude, while the females wear at least three layers of outfit from top to bottom.
  • Downplayed:
  • Justified:
    • Alice, like real cats, has her mammaries above her crotch, and the fur covering them falls away when nursing and leaves them exposed to cold. Because of this, her female ancestors would wrap a blanket to keep them warm, which eventually evolved to be a sociological gender signal.
    • Bob is poorer than Alice and cannot afford to buy as much clothing.
    • Alice is higher on the Sliding Scale of Anthropomorphism than Bob, and has more of a nudity taboo as a result of this.
    • Bob lives in a warmer climate than Alice.
  • Inverted: Bob wears a shirt, some pants, and a pair of shoes, but Alice only wears a shirt.
  • Subverted: When we first meet the animal people, we see that Bob is pantsless while Alice is fully-clothed, but when we come to their town, we see that all the females wear shirts at best, while all the males wear a full set of clothes.
  • Double Subverted: What looks like a girl cat wearing only a shirt is actually a very feminine male.
  • Parodied:
    • Alice's best friend, Sally the chipmunk, makes her debut wearing nothing but shoes and accessories, but the very concept of a female wearing anything less than a full outfit is so unnatural that it upsets the balance of the universe, provoking the wrath of Eldritch Moral Guardians from outer space. The Powers That Be swiftly react to fix the anomaly... by turning Sally into a boy.
    • Alice the Cat decides to go out with only a shirt, but the fact that she doesn't have pants on causes her to be mistaken for a male by everyone in town, much to her confusion. Meanwhile, Bob the Dog has to constantly explain to others that just because he's fully-dressed at this particular moment doesn't mean they should assume he's girl.
    • Alice the Cat loudly asks Bob the Dog why he and every other male has such a casual disregard for modesty and go out pantsless all the time. Upon hearing this, Bob and every other guy within earshot suddenly become aware of their state of nudity and proceed to run towards the nearest clothing store in shame.
  • Zig Zagged: The amount of clothing a character wears depends on the character themselves, and not the gender.
  • Averted: The males and females wear the same amount of clothes.
  • Enforced: "No, I don't care if everyone is a funny animal and fur counts as clothing in this show. You can't show the girls naked like the guys are. They'd look like naked women in animal print bodypaint if you did, and the Media Watchdogs won't like it."
  • Lampshaded:
    • "It's so nice that us boys can dress however we like."
    • "Oi Bob, why do you boys blatantly go around in the buff and not get arrested for so long?" "Huh? Uhh... Oh, Crap! Am I?!"
    • "Oi Alice, why do you bother to go fully dressed when the guys are going naked without consequences?" "I'm aware of that, Bob, but I'm not taking any chances with the censors."
  • Invoked: The mayor of an animal-populated town sets up a rule that females have to cover up from neck to toe, but males are free to go naked.
  • Exploited: Leo the Lion, being a ladies' man, hears of the rule and is happy that he can finally freely roam around town showing off his body to attract all the ladies.
  • Defied: Alice the Cat prefers to be naked, despite the rule set up by the mayor.
  • Discussed: "Why yes, girl animals do have to cover up, but males are free to roam naked. It's a tradition in our town."
  • Conversed: "Why do all the girls wear a full-set of clothes, yet the males are completely naked?"
