Playing With / Pantsless Males, Fully-Dressed Females

Go To

Basic Trope: Female characters wear more clothing than the males.

  • Straight: Bob the Dog only wears a shirt, but Alice the Cat wears a full set of clothes, including shoes.
  • Exaggerated: All the males in the setting are naked or only wear a shirt at best, while all the females wear shirts, pants, and shoes.
  • Downplayed: Alice is a Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal, while Bob is an Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal.

  • Justified: Female nudity is considered much more taboo than male nudity in their society.
  • Inverted: Bob wears a shirt, some pants, and a pair of shoes, but Alice only wears a shirt.
  • Subverted: When we first meet the animal people, we see that Bob is pantsless while Alice is fully-clothed, but when we come to their town, we see that all the females wear shirts at best, while all the males wear a full set of clothes.
  • Double Subverted: What looks like a girl cat wearing only a shirt is actually a very feminine male.
  • Parodied: The rule is so deeply ingrained in the population that it cannot fathom how a female would actually go half-dressed in public, much less fully nude. When the tomboyish Sally the Chipmunk is seen wearing nothing but accessories, the mere realization of Sally indeed being a female in the nude causes people's heads to pop into a shower of glitter.

  • Alice the Cat tries to undress, but finds that her outfit is an unbreakable Clingy Costume stuck to her body. While Bob the Dog has no trouble putting on and taking off clothing, a desperate Alice resorts to increasingly exagerated, but unsuccessful measures to get them off, such as trying to burn away her clothes with a blowtorch, prying her clothes off her body with an iron crowbar only for it to snap in half, and eventually sawing them off with a chainsaw that ultimately breaks and sends chains flying everywhere, with no effect or harm to Alice or her clothes.
  • Zig Zagged: The amount of clothing a character wears depends on the character themselves, and not the gender.
  • Averted: The males and females wear the same amount of clothes.
  • Enforced: "You can't show a naked girl. The audience still finds the female form offensive, sinful, or something like that. Naked male characters are okay, though."
  • Lampshaded

    • "It's so nice that us boys can dress however we like."
    • Alice the Cat decides to go out with only a shirt, but the fact that she doesn't have pants on causes her to be mistaken for a male by everyone in town, much to her confusion.
  • Invoked: The mayor of an animal-populated town sets up a rule that females have to cover up from neck to toe, but males are free to go naked.
  • Exploited: Leo the Lion, being a ladies' man, hears of the rule and is happy that he can finally freely roam around town with his sexy nude body to attract all the ladies.
  • Defied: Alice the Cat prefers to be naked, despite the rule set up by the mayor.
  • Discussed: "Why yes, girl animals do have to cover up, but males are free to roam naked. It's a tradition in our town."
  • Conversed: "Why do all the girls wear a full-set of clothes, yet the males are completely naked?"
