Basic Trope: A tomboy character becomes more of a Girly Girl.
- Straight: Hannah started as a tomboy who engages in masculine activities and always wears a Tomboyish Baseball Cap. Later on, she begins to participate in feminine activities and wear dresses and skirts.
- Exaggerated:
- Hannah started as a beer-chugging Ladette who wears boyish clothing and loves to get dirty, but later on, she becomes a full-fledged girly girl with interests traditionally considered feminine. She loves getting her nails done, goes to the hairdresser every other day, wears pretty-pretty dresses, likes make-up, and takes up sewing, crocheting, and knitting.
- Every female character in the show starts off as tomboys, then they become girlier.
- Downplayed:
- Hannah's definitely much more feminine as an adult/teenager than she ever was as a kid, but she still retains some of her tomboy traits.
- Hannah went from a Tomboy with a Girly Streak to a Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak.
- Hannah was already a girly girl during her younger years, albeit albeit having some masculine hobbits. Now she’s a straight up girly girl with absolutely none of them.
- Justified:
- Hannah got bored of her tomboyish nature and needed a change.
- Hannah wants her Love Interest to see her as more than just "One of the Boys".
- Hannah joins the Girl Posse group and she wants to blend in with them.
- Hannah is a transgender girl who just came out; her girly streak is part of her transition.
- Inverted: Tomboyness Upgrade
- Gender Inverted:
- Bob who was the sensitive guy became a Manly Man overtime.
- Bob started as a boyish boy who engages himself in fighting and martial arts and always wears baggy I's and T's. But as he gets older, he's now an art-loving sensitive guy who participates in some feminine activities and now wears fairly feminine and form-fitting style clothing.
- Subverted:
- Hannah only wears the dress because she's going to a formal party, perhaps she is forced to wear it, and feels obligated to wear something more extravagant. Otherwise, she still prefers to wear a T-shirt and jeans.
- It turns out that "Hannah" who wearing a dress is an imposter or her Girly Girl Polar Opposite Twins sister, Heather.
- Double Subverted:
- But as time goes on, she starts wearing more feminine clothes more often and becomes less tomboyish.
- And then the real Hannah starts to develop girlish hobbies as well.
- Parodied: ???
- Zig Zagged: Hannah keeps switching between being boyish and girly, day by day.
- Averted: Hannah remains a tomboy, or she is already a girly girl since her younger years.
- Enforced:
- The work is made in a country that associates embracing gender roles with maturity, which is the reason Hannah's Character Development includes getting a more feminine look.
- The creator wants Hannah to pander to the young girl demographic, so they decide to make Hannah more girly.
- Lampshaded: "Hannah. You used to be rough like the other guys. Now you're getting them all sweaty."
- Invoked: Hannah's friends, particularly her best friend, Sally, encouraged Hannah to become more feminine.
- Exploited: ???
- Defied: "Just because I'm a few years older doesn't mean I'm going to suddenly like wearing dresses and makeup."
- Discussed: "Now she's growing up, so she turns into a real woman now!"
- Conversed: "Finally, a tomboy who doesn't have to be mannish forever!"
- Deconstructed:
- Because Hannah is more girly, no one really treats her the way she used to be treated when she was a tomboy, and relationship dynamics change within her social circle so she can be treated like one of the girls now. Whether this weighs on her or not depends on how she really felt about her boyishness herself.
- When Hannah becomes more girly, her tomboy Childhood Friends starts accusing her of being too feminine since they believe anything feminine is inherently shallow and weak, or her femininity causes her to be prettier and more popular so the Sour Prude tomboys don't appreciate with her decisions and try to brag her down.
- Due to Hannah's lack of girliness experiences, her girliness turns into Femininity Failure and she is bullied by Alpha Bitch for it, causing her to turn back into her boyish self again.....with angsty.
- Reconstructed: However, just because she became more feminine, doesn't mean she suddenly sacrificed her boyish interests or old dynamics. She's just learned to reconcile them after she became more comfortable with feminine interests.
