He knows you're here, Izuku.*

The world of One Piece may seem whimsical, but when your protagonist is someone other than the carefree, ever-optimistic Luffy, it becomes a whole lot scarier. Especially when said protagonist has a lot of emotional baggage already and starts his journey in the most dangerous part of said world. The result: a Crapsack World that could give Berserk a run for its money!

  • Kaido is described as a monster who overshadows All For One. All of the previous bearers are scared of the Yonko, especially after he senses them with his Haki.
  • Kaido executes rebels during the fire festival and Izuku is forced to stand and watch, knowing that Kaido would squash him if he tried to intervene.
  • Izuku has, so far, come within a hair's breadth of being raped twice:
    • First, he bumps into Ulti, who becomes instantly smitten with him and decides to take him to her bedroom. While Izuku is more surprised than frightened initially, Yamato's internal dialogue indicates that she might rape him until he dies of exhaustion—or until she gets bored and kills him.
      • After Izuku escapes with Yamato's help, Ulti goes nuts and rampages through Wano attempting to get him back.
    • While hiding from Ulti, Izuku is once again nearly violated by Cat Girl Xandra, and this time no one is there to bail him out, nor can he fight back without blowing his cover. Thankfully, she decides he's too young and backs off.
  • Kaido felt Izuku's presence inside his room, and if it weren't for Yamato's distraction Izuku would have been brutally killed.
    • Because he's drunk, Kaido's Conqueror's Haki is essentially leaking, and yet it's enough that Izuku and his Vestiges are scared stiff and cannot even move while he's using it. The last character that managed to do anything like that was All For One at Kamino Ward, but even then Izuku managed to pull himself together to rescue Bakugou. Here? See the page image; Izuku can do nothing but cower in fear at the terrifying, awesome presence of the World's Strongest Creature, and was a hair's breath away from being crushed before Yamato's arrival, and even then it takes Izuku a few moments to pull himself together to go for Kaido's trousers and recover Yamato's keys
  • Kaido was scary before, but after learning about Yamato's escape, he changes into his dragon form while in a rage-induced haze. He even critically injures Page One because he spoke out of turn, freaking out his crew in the process because of how angry he is.
  • Malice is so afraid of Kaido's wrath that he tried to get out of his room despite the severe injuries Izuku inflicted on him.
    • To put it in perspective, had Malice warned a fellow Tobi Roppo or an Okanban, he could have made it harder for Izuku and Yamato to escape Onigashima or even prevent them from even escaping in the first place, but he didn't. He narrowly manages to wriggle his way out of trouble by (accurately) blaming Queen for not taking his report seriously and offering to pursue the duo on Kaido's behalf, but he escaped a gruesome death by the skin of his teeth and he knows it.
  • The Salt-Salt powers of Finalem Handsome are described as being able to mummify opponents and ‘grind bodies into meat’, among other uses.
  • Out of all the Marines fighting the Handsome brothers and their forces, only one managed to get away.
  • The Beast Pirates scoured Wano for any trace of Yamato and Izuku, and they were not afraid to make its people suffer even more than they already are. This rampage lasted two whole weeks, and was ultimately pointless since the pair flew away from Onigashima.
  • Reichen Bach briefly goes Laughing Mad with a Slasher Smile on his face when he discusses the plan to take on the Finalem Pirates with Izuku, Yamato, and Jenner, almost like he's snapped from the stress of dealing with all the horrible things happening in his kingdom. It's only mitigated by the fact that Bach's brief spell of madness was actualy a "Eureka!" Moment that inspired him to lay out the plan to defeat the Finalem Brothers, or else the story could have gone in a much darker direction.
  • As whimsical as Handsome can be, he's still a brutal pirate willing to do horrible things for the sake of his ambition, and he immediately demonstrates this when he decides to stop playing nice with Izuku during their battle.
  • After Izuku and Yamato attack Bandsome and Handsome, three of the higher-ranking Finalem Pirates decide to attack the city's gasworks, potentially setting the whole city ablaze. Luckily, Sabo, Koala, and Doll intervene to try and stop them.
  • Kuma is this to Bach, who is understandably unnerved of the Tyrant's sudden appearance out of nowhere in the middle of a celebration party to check on the situation with the Kingdom of Doyle on behalf of the World Government.
    • On the other hand, Bach states that it would have been worse if Sir Crocodile or Donquixote Doflamingo had appeared instead of Kuma. You can guess what that implies about both men that Kuma is the more merciful and rational person out of all the Warlords...
  • Bach also realizes the futility of his dream of making Doyle a strong nation powerful enough not to be reliant on the World Government after Kuma points out about the presence of powerful pirates like Kaido who would raze nations down to the ground.
  • In Chapter 37, we see that Kaido is so pissed at losing Yamato that he's sober. Sober in that he's sworn of alcohol completely. Kaido was already bad enough when he was drunk, but a sober and angry Kaido bodes ill for everyone as he tears through Wano searching for Yamato and Izuku.
  • In Chapter 38, Ace and his Spade Pirates suffer a Fate Worse than Death at the hands of Kaido and his forces compared to canon where they got lucky to escape with their lives during their incursion of Wano.
    • When Ace refused the offer of joining him, Kaido intends to break Ace's spirit like he did to all other unfortunate pirates.
    • Queen subjects the surviving Spade Pirates into Unwilling Roboticisation, turning them into flesh robots devoid of humanity, will, and spirit as the new Surveillance Unit for the Beast Pirates. OUCH.
  • When Kaido finds out that Izuku and Yamato were never hiding in Wano and that he and his crew wasted two weeks tearing through the country, he becomes even angrier than before. He posts a 350 million berry reward on Izuku's head, meaning that he and Yamato are about to get a lot of attention from a lot of extremely dangerous people.
  • Blackbeard has taken an interest in Izuku. Not a malicious interest... but anyone who knows Blackbeard knows that's arguably worse than if it was. Especially given that his interest being non-malicious means it won't trigger Izuku's Danger Sense no matter how much danger it puts him in.
  • Following Kaido's decision to put a bounty on Izuku's head, he gets another admirer in the form of Charlotte Galette, who intends to marry him—by force, if necessary—despite being a decade older than him.
  • Rocks D. Xebec threatened to blow Sphinx off the map if Whitebeard didn't join his crew when they first met, then set Whitebeard up as one of his prized warriors for years afterwards. The man has been dead for decades and yet his shadow continues to loom over the Emperors and the world at large.
  • As part of a training session, Whitebeard hits Izuku with his Conqueror's Haki and Izuku is able to make it all of five steps before collapsing. Marco notes that that much Conqueror's being thrown at one person would kill a normal human being. That'd be unsettling on it's own if it wasn't Whitebeard using it, but what takes this into Nightmare Fuel Territory? By Whitebeard's own admission, Kaido's Conqueror's Haki is stronger than his. Even with their allies and their training, Izuku and Yamato have their work cut out for them if they hope to even come close to battling Kaido on even footing.
  • Germa 66 razes the island of Brew Island in a night attack, killing dozens with their super weapons and indirectly declaring war on the Whitebeards on top of it. Squard's counterattack a few days later confirms that they took no prisoners or slaves, including children.
  • Upon arriving in the North Blue, one of the first things Yamato does is go play in the surf of the island she and Izuku are camping out on and accidentally steps on a poisonous stonefish. Thankfully, Reiju happened to be nearby and chose to step in and suck out the poison, but she makes it clear that if she hadn't, Yamato would have died within hours.
  • Judge's reaction to learning Reiju has disappeared isn't all that different from Kaido's, with him objectifying Reiju as his "property" and ordering his armies to go out and turn the entire North Blue upside down in search of her, with the same order to Leave No Survivors as Germa's regular invasion.
  • Basil Hawkins witnesses Izuku and Yamato taking down the Caribou pirates and asks Izuku if he might read his fortune. That isn't the scary part- what is scary is Basil himself, who despite not triggering Danger Sense manages to unsettle Izuku and make him wonder if he really is at risk of harm.
  • Chapter 60:
    • Toko disturbs a rabbit that Tama had been trying to catch, and the latter snaps before trying to kill the former with a rock for scaring away her breakfast. By this point Toko has already eaten her SMILE, so all she can do is smile and laugh even as Tama bears down on her and she cries out for her father to protect her.
    • Queen reveals that he overdid the lobotomy procedure on the Spade Pirates and they all died of malnutrition or accidents due to lacking the necessary faculties to take care of themselves, cackling in Ace's face about how they died and how Ace continues to suffer for it.
  • Chapter 63:
    • Germa 66 razes Swallow Island, killing all of the inhabitants, on the off chance that they might have had a hand in Reiju's disappearance. Izuku, Yamato, and Law brutally wipe out most of the soldiers, but when they try to round up a few survivors for questioning, the survivors simply kill themselves because that's what they're programmed to do.
    • The suicide pills the Germa soldiers use (when they don't just frag one another, as is the fate of the Snail Cruiser commander) are gristly as well: besides foaming at the mouth, they also cause the soldiers' faces to turn red and blister, as if they're melting underneath intense heat.
