This index is for tropes about the animal seals, not the concealed kind of seals. As such Personal Seals, Supernatural Sealing, Sealed Evil in a Can, Seal the Breach, and Hand Seals do not go here. The Walrus Was Paul also does not go in this index, as it is a trope for things that were intended to be nonsensical rather than literal walruses. Also, it has nothing to do with the singer Seal.
Tropes:
- Ball-Balancing Seal: The tendency in fiction for seals or sea lions to balance balls, usually on their head or nose.
- Monstrous Seal: Seals portrayed as aggressive, dangerous predators.
- Selkies and Wereseals: A magical seal/sea lion than can turn into a human after shedding its seal skin.
- Semiaquatic Species Sailor: Semi-aquatic anthropomorphic animals such as seals and walruses are portrayed as sailors/pirates/captains.
- Sluggish Seal: Seals, walruses, and sea lions stereotyped as slow or lazy creatures.
- Sweet Seal: Seals portrayed as sweet and cuddly animals.
- Tailfin Walking: Seals or walruses walking upright on their tailfins, though it's justified since the tailfins are their feet.
- Warm-Hearted Walrus: Walruses portrayed as heroic or lovable characters.
- Wily Walrus: Walruses portrayed as villains, jerks, or antagonists.
