As implied by the cover, Hunted Truths is much more introspective & focused on Verse than Shifting Tides.
"Symphony of Hunted Truths" is the second book in the Elancia Chronicles saga. It was written by Leilani Rae Wilson, and published in 2020 through Goal Publications. Illustrations were done by NightlineZ (Cover art & one interior artwork), and Renz (interior art)

After the war in Basker, Verse is reluctantly led by her ambiguously existent sister back to her former, dilapidated homeland of Kerlynzia, where she splits up from Xan to do some investigations on her own. The scars left behind from Verse's former life here are all ripped open once again, as she gets forced back into the same Imperial Knight service that she fled from all those years ago, and sent on a mission that will inevitably force her to confront her troubled past. Verse must also hunt down an armed & dangerous outlaw who has something precious to her, explore incomprehensible ruins from the sky, and attempt to piece together her own role in Kerlynzia's descent into instability, only this time, she has no escape from reality as her dreams have even more disturbing things in store for her...

In 2020, the book was nominated for a Leo Literary Award under the 'Novel' category.

The next year, a sequel was released called Symphony Of Awakened Gods.

Symphony of Hunted Truths contains examples of:

  • A Child Shall Lead Them: Emperor Pomme is a child, as such several factions among the council try to take advantage of her for power.
  • A.K.A.-47: Clifford's Weston Rifle resembles real-world Winchester Lever-Action rifles, but with engravings.
  • Alien Episode: Star Junk & it's automaton inhabitants appear much more prominently here than in Shifting Tides, and is much more important to the plot this time around.
  • Bring My Brown Pants: Verse wets herself out of fear. Twice. First time was during her encounter with the Grand Hornet on her 6th birthday, Second was when she saw the Grambler during the battle of the Ancient Library.
  • Dead Man Writing: While not actually dead, just missing, Lyrikos leaves Verse a book to confirm that she's real & to help Verse understand the truth and what to do next.
  • Fantasy Aliens: Large Star-Junk wreckages that fell from space are often populated with robotic inhabitants, including Humanoid automatons that roll round on a single wheel, and later on, a larger, extremely dangerous Mechanical Monster called "the Grambler" that is shaped like an Armoured Car, and armed with gatling guns, sawblades, and a cannon. This one serves as a "Final Boss" in the story, and guardian of the 'Ancient Library'. Not having any concept of robotics, most Elancians think these are sentient beings.
  • Flashback: The story starts as a flashback of Verse's 6th Birthday, and features many more glimpses into her past.
  • Foreshadowing: While attempting to evade Squad F in a hotel, Verse comes across a half-dressed Fiend, who has bandages over his chest. In the next book, it is revealed that Fiend is transgender.
  • Ghost City: The Old Capital- Ammatga, which was decimated by Star-Junk falling from space, and the subsequent radioactive fluids that poisoned it's water.
  • Hate Sink: Captain Wahl Stoanes is the leader of Squad F, despite being a child. He very unlikable due to being a bratty, entitled leader, and achieving his status through pure nepotism. Verse does not put up with him, and loves to humiliate Wahl in front of his squad, even going as far as to put his life in danger as she has Narg the Dragon kidnap him.
  • Sawed-Off Shotgun: Whilst not being a shotgun, Clifford's rifle gets damaged in battle, and subsequently sawn-off by Fiend to make a "Mare's Leg", who then begrudgingly returns it to Verse, who is not pleased.
  • Stranger in a Familiar Land: Upon Verse's re-entry to Kerlynzia, she finds that this once beautiful place is now an impovershed, polluted dump
  • Team Pet: Lox the Fox from Squad F. Verse takes him on a mission to help track down Lyrikos with his keen sense of smell.
  • Urban Segregation: In Kerlynzia, the Westerners are much richer than the oppressed Easterners, and neither side is very fond of the other.
  • Wicked Wasps: Grand Hornets. Verse and Camdyn had a dangerous close encounter with one as children.
