The Girl With 4 Souls

"Since meeting each other, Jaune and Ruby's lives have turned around. All the stress and problems of the past fade away, as their friendship blooms in the bustling city of Vale. But Ruby has a secret. Three, in fact. Her alternate identities: Weiss, Blake, and Yang.
FanFiction.Net summary

You, Me, and Everyone in Between is a RWBY AU fanfic written by LeafyDream. It features Ruby Rose in her 20s recently moved to Vale from Patch and adjusting to life and finding love in a blond dork named Jaune Arc. Complicating things is the fact that she has Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) with three seperate identities named Weiss, Blake, and Yang.

The original concept of the fic was first used by the author in their anthology story called Leafy's Dreams, namely Chapter 2: Love Me To Pieces and its sequel Chapter 5: Love Me 2 Pieces.

Not to be confused with a similarly titled RWBY fanfic called You and Me (and Everyone in Between) by LacePendragon

You, Me, And The Tropes In Between:

  • Adapted Out: Since Weiss, Blake, and Yang are alternative identities of Ruby, characters like the other Schnees, Belladonnas, and the Qrow Branwen don't exist in this story. Interestingly though, the first chapter had a police officer Jaune met that matched Winter Schnee’s description, though they never spoke with each other so he never got her name.
    • According to Ruby, she never had a dog so Zwei doesn’t exist either.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In this story, Jaune Arc and Pyrrha Nikos are exes that have known each other since they were kids, with the relationship having ended due to her busy schedule according to Jaune. She hasn’t been in contact with anybody in their friends group for months.
    • Hazel Rainart is Jaune’s boss at his pizzeria.
    • Ruby and Sun are Childhood Friends, that ended badly when Sun threw her past relationship with Adam in her face.
    • Yang and Neon apparently hit it off as soon as they met and have even flirted with each other, though Ruby and her other alts only consider her as Yang’s friend.
    • Coco and Fox are engaged and part of the story focuses on their wedding.
    • Ruby and her father Taiyang have a strained relationship due to sending Summer to an asylum.
  • Composite Character: According to the author, Taiyang Xiao-Long’s personality in this story is a combination of his canon self, Ghira Belladonna, and Jacques Schnee.
  • Creator Cameo: Not the author themselves, but a character based on the late Monty Oum. A random bartender Jaune and Ruby meet also named Monty and matching physical description though as the author notes, not in personality.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Cardin Winchester as Velvet’s plus one to Coco and Fox’s wedding, which surprised everyone else who knows him as he was their biggest bully in school. Naturally their interactions with him are tense as they haven’t forgiven him for his bullying and he never apologized for that.
  • Hates Their Parent: Ruby hates her father Taiyang here since he sent her mother Summer to a mental institute for having DID.
  • It Runs in the Family: Ruby's mother, Summer Rose also has DID, with her alt being named Raven. Unfortunately, Tai had her sent to a mental institute.
  • Modern AU Fic: The settings takes place in a world similar to our own, though Vale and Patch exist as part of the USA, with Vale apparently replacing New York City as the Big Apple and Patch being one of its nearby islands, while Beacon is a normal university. Also Ren is from China and part of the story takes place on an island in Hawaii.
  • Pom-Pom Girl: According to Nora she was a cheerleader in high school, as well as a part of the football team cause she is that awesome.
  • Reformed Bully: Cardin Winchester, or at least he is middle of becoming one. Jaune and his friends are understandably not convinced despite Velvet (another former target of his bullying) sticking up for him, though she does not explain his circumstances as it is his to tell.
  • Shipper on Deck: Ren and Nora are pretty much all for Jaune and Ruby to get together from the get go when they meet her.
  • Slipping a Mickey: In chapter 2, Sky Lark drugs Ruby’s drink. She starts hallucinating Adam Taurus and due to her DID and the stress the situation causes her makes her start dissociating by having a bout of amnesia to the point she forgets where she lives.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Ren’s parents are alive and living in China, with him and Nora visiting them for Christmas in the first chapter.
    • Hazel Rainart’s sister Gretchen is also mentioned to be alive.
    • Summer Rose is alive here, but is in an insane asylum so we never see her in the present.
  • There Are No Therapists: Downplayed as Ren is studying to be one. Other than that, Ruby does not go to therapy for her DID and generally keeps it a secret.
  • Title One: The story is supposed to be Book 1 of a series, with “The Start of Something” as the sub-heading. Unfortunately the author hasn’t given any updates on if it will continue.
