Fanfic / Luz Noceda, the Time Lord Witch

Go To

Luz Noceda, the Time Lord Witch is a crossover story between The Owl House and Doctor Who. This AU posits that Luz and Camila are actually Time Ladies who manages to escape from Gallifrey before it was destroyed. Camila uses Time Lord technology to disguise herself and her infant daughter as humans, but when Luz contacts her in "Yesterday's Lie", they end up opening their fob watches and regaining their true nature.

  • Ace Pilot: Unlike the Doctor, Camila aced her TARDIS driving test, and she thus manages to escape Gallifrey with a baby Luz before the Doctor uses the Moment.
  • Adaptational Badass: The intelligence boost Luz gets when she unlocks her Time Lady nature allows her to figure out a number of new glyph combos, including some for time magic.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: Luz was far from stupid in canon, but after she opens her fob watch she gains a boost to her intellect befitting a Time Lady.
  • Adaptational Species Change: In this AU, Camila and Luz are Time Ladies.
  • Ascended Extra: Bria gets more focus here, showing up at the Brawl and transferring to Hexside thanks to Luz. She even ends up joining the rest of the Hexsquad on Earth after the events of "King's Tide".
  • Bag of Holding: The Hexsquad has some, which are fueled by their internal bile to allow them to hold more than they look like they should be able to.
  • Big Sister Instinct: When Luz overhears Clara, the head of the cheerleaders, making comments about Vee, particularly that she'd deliberately fail Vee is she tries out for the cheer squad just because she's Luz's younger sister, Luz confronts her, punches the locker next to her, and tells her that she doesn't care if she gets expelled for it, she'll make Clara pay if she does that or anything like it.
  • Does Not Like Magic: The Doctor doesn't like magic very much, in main part due to how he can't seem to understand it fully through scientific means, and partly due to osmosis of Rassilon's views on it in Time Lord society.
  • Drunk on Milk: After learning that Gus and Vee are dating, Bria drinks some apple cider, thinking that it has alcohol like apple blood on the Isles, and gets drunk through the placebo effect.
  • Failed a Spot Check: It's lampshaded by Luz that even if she hadn't shown Philip the light glyph he probably would have found it eventually, given that it's literally a constellation, so if anything it's amazing that he hadn't found it yet.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Thanks to Luz's Time Lady nature being sealed off, the canon episodes pass effectively the same as in canon until "Yesterday's Lie" when Camila tells Luz to open her fob watch before the latter gets pulled back to the Isles.
  • Internal Reveal: While we learn of Luz's true heritage and what it means early on, Luz herself doesn't find out until she ends up on Earth after the Day of Unity and meets the Doctor.
    • After their first attempt at making a new portal door fails, Luz reveals that King is a Titan to the others.
  • Love Triangle: Vee and Bria both develop a crush on Gus. Unfortunately for Bria, Vee asks him out first.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: Luz's Time Lady senses let her feel when she gets close to the Time Pools, and tell what time period one leads to just by the feeling. It also tells her that Belos getting the light glyph and the Collector's tablet was a fixed spot in time.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: The Doctor recounts to Luz the tale of a Time Lord who called themselves "The Sorcerer" specifically to tick off Rassilon, apparently disagreeing with his policies on magic (among other things), and Luz herself is noted to be much more interested in magic than is normal for Time Lords. The Doctor even says the fully expects that she'll be able to bring it back into the human realm in full one day if she keeps learning and moving forward.
  • Not a Morning Person: Vee is apparently rather sluggish in the morning, as she stretches while still half-asleep in front of Gus while only wearing a yellow t-shirt and shorts.
  • Shout-Out: When talking about how witch biology and magic works, the concept of "magical circuits" comes up.
  • Time Master: As expected of a Time Lady, with her new intelligence boost Luz starts developing glyph magic that can manipulate time to a degree.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: Belos getting the light glyph and the Collector's tablet was a fixed point in time, so even if Luz had ignored her Time Lady instincts and tried to kill him as Philip back then, she would have failed.
  • You Keep Telling Yourself That: The Doctor tries to avoid thinking of what the Witches can do as "magic", instead saying that they just generate a unique chemical from their bile sacs that let them manipulate the vectors in their environment. This is Camila's response to that statement.
