Your wings hurt, your wife is pregnant, and curses are a very real possibility. You are Hype and this is your quest.

Hype Quest is an imageboard-based Interactive Fiction that is inspired by My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. It is currently a Completed Fic, having begun on May 9, 2016 and reaching its conclusion 4 threads later on June 19 of the same year.

Hypostome ("Hype" for short) is a bat pony that's been Employee of the Month at a mineral-inspection business for almost an entire year. He was always unlucky with the ladies, until he met the unicorn stallion that would become his best friend, who introduced him to a beautiful maiden...or rather, helped save his life from a psychotic gypsy and self-proclaimed witch. Regardless, not only did they end up falling in love, they're also expecting a child of their own in the near future! Now Hype just has to manage his days well during the last few weeks of her pregnancy, maintaining his good work ethic while still making the mother of his child happy...and avoid being warped into another dimension from her hormonal wrath. Or her regular wrath.

Tropes Used:

  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: As abrasive as Raven tends to be, she does genuinely care for Hype, as seen with her kisses and the way she talks about him to her friends.
  • Babies Ever After: The story ends with the birth of Hype and Raven's child.
  • Judgement of the Dead: A "mane conditioning" potion made by Raven and her witch friends knocks test subject Hype out and gives him a vision of being judged by a giant mango and made to testify over whether he's been good in life.
  • Life-or-Limb Decision: Hype's zebra coworker Wewuz nearly loses his tail trying to help Hype gather giant salamander eggs for Raven. Thankfully, Hype's able to save his work friend with a sonic screech, though the tail still ends up hairless, leaving Wewuz embarrassed for a while.
  • Meaningful Name: A "hypostome" is the feeding plate of a trilobite. Hype used to be beaten up at school for explaining it and the connection to his interest in fossils and mineralogy, though.
  • My Hair Came Out Green: The "mane conditioning" potion that Raven and her friends test on Hype, aside from causing a brief trip to Bat Pony Heaven, ends up dying his body cotton candy pink. His mane and tail are fabulous and still their original grey color, at least.
  • Noodle Incident: Hype and Raven's past relationship is one long string of these, such as a past curse that left Hype confined to a gerbil cage for a week.
  • Opposites Attract: Hype is a mild-mannered, kind-hearted bat. Raven, in comparison, is a witch that's prone to cursing others, including the father of her child. Their first meetings involved literally trying to kill each other, though in Hype's case, it was partly self-defense and partly being goaded by a third party.
  • Pregnancy Makes You Crazy: Raven apparently wasn't all that kind before the pregnancy, but expecting a foal has made her even more temperamental, as well as willing to try things like mopping the ceiling.
  • Random Events Plot: The story is mainly just Hype dealing with his wife's various requests, from grocery shopping to harvesting eggs from a giant salamander, with the only continuous goal being Hype's quest to get a proper engagement ring.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Doggo the bat, who was named thus because Hype considered him as cute as a puppy.
  • Serious Business: Hype highly values his ear tufts, and has a panic attack if they're clipped off or shrunk by one of Raven's curses.
  • Shotgun Wedding: Raven and Hype aren't actually married by the time the story begins, and Raven would prefer not having their child born a literal bastard, though Hype has to go through a few hoops obtaining the best possible wedding ring.
  • The Tease: Early on, Raven decides to join Hype in a shower, and stays just long enough to excite him before teleporting out and drying off.
  • Visual Pun: Also early on, Hype runs into his best friend Gar at the grocery store he works at, and gets a bat on the shoulder. Not a physical bump, but a literal, living bat. Hype even remarks on the play-on-words when explaining the new pet to Raven when he returns home.
  • Wacky Cravings: Raven experiences a few, such as dipping dill pickles into cherry ice cream.
