Future Earth, Future Sky by Inky is a Sousuke/Makoto Free! Fan Fic in which Sousuke and Makoto meet and fall in love upon meeting each other in college.

Future Earth, Future Sky provides examples of:

  • Dumped via Text Message: Sousuke, overwhelmed by his own internal issues, breaks up with Makoto. Makoto, justifiably angry at being dumped over text, rushes over to Sousuke’s house. See above.
  • Erotic Dream: Makoto often finds himself having these about Sousuke when they meet in college. Sousuke later confesses that the same thing happened for him too.
  • Everyone Is Bi: Makoto is gay, Sousuke is attracted to men (although he isn’t sure of his exact sexuality), Haru is ace, most original characters are queer of some sort, etc.
  • Extreme Doormat: Makoto openly acknowledges this to be one of his biggest faults, which becomes a major plot point when he finds that he can’t bring it in himself to tell Sousuke that he needs sex.
  • First Love: Sousuke is this for Makoto
  • Friend Versus Lover: One of the bigger conflicts in Makoto’s and Sousuke’s relationship is that Sousuke can’t find it in himself to get along with Haruka
  • It's Not You, It's Me: Sousuke finds his own internal struggles with his medication and recovering from his broken shoulder too overwhelming combined with his relationship with Makoto. He lists these as the reasons why he’s breaking up with him through text.
  • Just the Way You Are: Makoto essentially says this to Sousuke, leading to them getting back together.
  • Inorgasmia: Due to the medication pills Sousuke is taking, he finds himself unable to properly function sexually. Much to Makoto’s chagrin.
  • Mentor in Queerness: Sato is very well-versed with issues regarding different sexualities and is usually who the characters struggling with elements of their sexuality go to for help
  • Nice Guy: Makoto. Both Sousuke and Haru say he’s one to a fault.
  • No Antagonist: Almost every character is portrayed very sympathetically, and most of the story’s central conflict comes from the internalized battles of the characters as well as relationship conflicts.
  • Official Couple: Sousuke and Makoto
  • Papa Wolf: Sousuke’s father to the point where it borders on being an Overprotective Dad.
  • Parents as People: While Sousuke’s father clearly loves his son, he’s also very overprotective and has some of the same faults as his son
  • Pride: Sousuke openly admits this to be one of his biggest flaws
  • Pseudo-Romantic Friendship: Haruka describes his queerplatonic feelings for Makoto as ‘platonic soulmates’
  • Shipper on Deck: Sato is a very avid supporter of Makoto’s and Sousuke’s blossoming relationship
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Makoto falls in love with Sousuke in large part due to the kindness he displays even in Sousuke’s darkest times.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Makoto notes that Sousuke looks exactly like his father
  • Their First Time: Makoto and Sousuke, eventually
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Rin calls out Sousuke and Makoto for their relationship neglecting Makoto and Haruka’s friendship.
