Gill is best known for portraying companion Yasmin "Yaz" Khan on Doctor Who, opposite Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor from 2018 to 2022. In addition to starring in the show for the entirety of Whittaker's run as the Doctor —a distinction only matched by Billie Piper's Rose Tyler with Christopher Eccleston's Ninth Doctor— Gill's Yaz is also the longest-serving companion in the franchise's history in terms of continuous time as a cast member, clocking in at a little over four years total and surpassing previous record holder Janet Fielding as Tegan Jovanka.note
