Shazam! is a 2018 DC Comics ongoing series written by Geoff Johns and art by Dale Eaglesham, the first Shazam ongoing since The '90s The Power of Shazam. It is a sequel to the 2012 Shazam origin that was also written by Geoff Johns.

Teenager turned superhero Billy Batson struggles to balance school and superheroics! (Guess which one is more fun?) But when Shazam unlocks a shocking secret deep within the Rock of Eternity, it challenges everything he knows about the worlds of magic and his family’s future as its champions! All while having to fend off the lethal team of the returning Dr. Sivana and Mr. Mind!

The series ran for 14 issues, with Jeff Loveness doing a fill-in for issue #12, before coming to end. The Geoff Johns issues were collected in a rebranded collection under the name Shazam! and the Seven Magic Lands.

Tropes found in Shazam 2018 include;

  • Adaptation Dye-Job: As it is a continuation of the origin established in the early days of New 52, Freddy is blonde here.
  • Big Bad: A child who's seen as a king, Monsters, Mr. Mind, Doctor Sivana... And Superboy-Prime.
  • Filler: Jeff Loveness' issue #12 with Billy and Freddy visiting Gotham is this as it largely has no relation to the rest of the plotlines of the series.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Mary is the responsible one to pretty much the rest of the Shazam family. She was the only one who voiced concern about using the mysterious train they found within the Rock of Eternity.
  • Merged Reality: One of the worlds connected to the Rock of Eternity is the Wozenderlands. Take one guess what famous fairy tale worlds are combined for that.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Superboy-Prime is seen naked for the majority of his appearance in the story. His first scene goes as far as showing his ass.
  • Naked on Arrival: Superboy-Prime is reintroduced to the continuity, jailed in the Rock of Eternity with no clothes.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: As is common with modern depictions, Billy's father is a spitting image of how he looks when he's Shazam.
  • Superhero Trophy Shelf: The Shazam family have started on in Rock of Eternity but only has some superhero-themed masks from some museum robbers at the moment.
  • World of Funny Animals: A new version of Mister Tawky Tawny comes from one of these.
