Go To

Donald Trump

  • Berserk Button:
    • Volunteering to be brought back into the boardroom or outright saying that he should fire you is a one-way ticket to the street. The former because he hates it when people needlessly put themselves at risk out of bravado, and the latter because he has an even bigger hatred for people trying to bluff him. Averted, however, if someone says that they should be fired because they screwed up as project manager, as he'll usually commend them for their honesty (though he still fires them, of course).
    • Saying that you think your team's lost before the task result is actually announced is another way of quickly getting yourself fired, as is undermining your project manager in general.
    • Trying to make all your management decisions by consensus is almost always interpreted by him as a sign of weakness, and barring someone else on the team really misbehaving usually leads to a firing. That being said, he also dislikes it when managers just flat-out refuse to listen to their subordinates.
  • Precision F-Strike: Didn't actually swear or curse all that much — the only time he really lost his temper on the show was after the men's catastrophically awful fashion show in Season 10 — and usually only threw in swear words as a sign that the situation was Serious Business.
  • Product Placement: Wasn't above advertising his own goods as part of tasks, including his hotels, his fashion line, and even his short-lived brand of bottled water.
  • Sex Sells: Often an advocate of this strategy, to the point where he'd more often castigate a team for not using this trope. He did have his limits in this regard, however, and fired Season 2's Ivana in part for dropping her skirt and showing her panties in an effort to upsell chocolate bars.

Carolyn Kepcher

  • Mama Bear: While her own children never appeared on the show, she usually took serious issue with anyone who made insulting remarks about any kids.
  • Pet the Dog: For the most part she was very serious and stuck to observing the candidates, but after Verna's Heroic BSoD in the second episode of Season 3, she actually jumped into her car, tracked Verna down and brought her back to the group.
  • Un-person: Never mentioned once after she left at the end of Season 5. For reference, even Bernie Diamond, George's main substitute in Season 1, continued to make the occasional cameo appearance in Seasons 2-5.

George H. Ross

  • Out of Focus: In Seasons 1 to 3 he'd miss a small handful of episodes per season. Then, in Season 4 he scaled his involvement back to about half of the episodes, with Bill Rancic filling in when he wasn't available. By Season 5, though he was still the official third board member after Trump and Carolyn, Bill had almost completely taken over his role. After that he bowed out completely, only making guest appearances in the Los Angeles season, the Celebrity Apprentice seasons and Season 10.
  • Self-Made Man: Whereas the Trump family judges have all been born into wealth, and Carolyn and Bill were from middle-class backgrounds, George grew up on the streets of Brooklyn and held several blue collar jobs before putting himself through college and becoming a lawyer. Whenever the candidates had to run a shop or restaurant, George would often reminisce about how he himself had once been in that position.

Bill Rancic

  • Ascended Extra: While all of the Season 1-5 winners (barring only Kendra) acted as a judge at some point or other, Bill was the only one who turned it into a regular role on the show, to the point of largely supplanting George in Seasons 4 and 5.invoked
  • Nice Guy: Comparatively speaking he was probably the nicest of the judges in the Trump era, though still didn't hesitate to call people out when they made a mistake and refused to admit to it.

Ivanka Trump

  • Ascended Fangirl: Usually became this any time a former model appeared as one of the contestants, as she herself was a model when she was younger.invoked

Donald Trump, Jr.

  • Deadpan Snarker: Became increasingly pronounced as the Celebrity editions went on, to the point where he often set himself up as the foil for any comedian who came onto the show.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: First appeared early in Season 3, though he didn't become a judge until Season 5, and didn't become a regular judge until the first Celebrity season.
  • The Stoic: Early on he was this, though by around the second Celebrity season he started to become a lot more laid back.

Eric Trump

  • The Stoic: Whereas his two siblings could be more relaxed and jokey, Eric was far more serious and rarely ever cracked any jokes.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Understandably he was a lot like his elder brother, just more straight-faced.

Martha Stewart

  • Catchphrase: Subverted; while her main firing phrase was "you just don't fit in," she actually only used that three times over the course of the season, and usually came up with a unique phrase for dismissing each candidate.

Alexis Stewart

Charles Koppelman

  • Cigar Chomper: Almost always had a cigar with him whenever he was seen on-screen, though he never actually had one lit.
  • One Degree of Separation: Technically two; he already knew Bethenny before she went on the show, as she was friends with his daughter.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: He was essentially the Martha Stewart season's version of George.

Arnold Schwarzenegger
