Hank

A farmer and central character. Married to Beth.

Happily Married: Has a loving relationship with Beth.
Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Hank has a muscular, tall, and broad-shouldered body. His hands even look to be the size of Helen's head when he puts a hand on her back while reassuring her about Jake's death. His wife, Beth, is more petite.

Beth

Voiced by: G.K. Bowes

Acts as mission control. Married to Hank.

Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Beth has a more petite frame compared to her brawnier husband.
Token Minority: The only black main character.

Jake

Voiced by: Scott Whyte(English), Wataru Takagi (Japanese)

Another farmer and is married to Helen.

Small Name, Big Ego: Willingly to admit that he's not Michelangelo, because he thinks of himself as more of a da Vinci...and Hank considers the scarecrow Jake made for him to be categorically awful-looking. Downplayed, since this is really all there is to attest to Jake's ego and Hank later says he's warming up to the scarecrow since it held out as an anchor while he was holding the giant DeeBee's mouth open.
The Engineer: Constantly tinkering with his mech when he's not fighting, which gets him held up when the attack comes.
Heroic Sacrifice: Self-destructs in the middle of a horde of aliens to buy the others time.

Helen

Voiced by: Courtenay Taylor (English), Michiko Kaiden (Japanese)

Jake's wife who helps out Helen back on the farm.

Crusading Widow: After Jake dies she whips out a shotgun and starts shooting DBs herself.

Crazy Mel

Voiced by: Tudi Roche (English), Miru Hitotsuyanagi (Japanese)

Another farmer who works with Hank and Jake.

Boisterous Bruiser: Usually has a grin along with the cigar in her teeth,
Brawn Hilda: She has the personality and the build, though like the others she fights using a mech.
Cigar Chomper: She's never seen without a cigar in her teeth, and has the aggressive no-nonsense personality that goes with it.
Gender Flip: In the original short story, she was "Crazy Bill," a 70-year-old widower.
Goggles Do Nothing: Has a pair of goggles on her hat.
Not Afraid to Die: Very blasé about fighting thousands of feral aliens while being quite willing to state that it's almost certain death.
Spider Tank: Her mech has four legs and a lower profile than the others' bipedal mechs.

DeeBees

A hostile species of feral aliens who attacked farmers' colonies with goal to kill everyone.
