  • Character Signature Song: "You Can't See Me", sung as a duet between her and Jup Jup.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: Kathleen left Hi-5 in 2006 to have her baby, and this became the main focus of the first two episodes of series 9, with Kathleen introducing Sun and the rest of Hi-5 preparing for her baby shower. She returned for the last episode of series 9 to introduce her daughter, Mikayla.
  • Trademark Favourite Food: Thai and Japanese food

Kathleen's replacement, who took over her segment for series 9 and 10.
  • Temporary Substitute: Although Sun was originally introduced as a temporary substitute for Kathleen, she became the main host of Puzzles and Patterns for series 10 before leaving at the end of 2008 alongside Nathan and Kellie.
  • Welcome Episode: The first episode of series 9 has Kathleen introducing Sun and asking her to take over her space while she's gone.

Segment: Puzzles and Patterns, The Jupsters

Jup Jup is a mischievous, purple, five-legged alien who lives in the walls of the Puzzles and Patterns set and plays tricks on the presenter of that segment when she isn't looking.
  • Amusing Alien: Jup Jup is always very entertaining to watch.
  • Intrigued by Humanity: Jup Jup's favourite animals are humans, and he is fascinated by them and the things they do.
  • Octopoid Aliens: He does resemble a fluffy, five legged octopus.
  • Pokémon Speak: A lot of Jup Jup's speech consists of him repeating his own name.
  • The Trickster: Jup Jup likes playing tricks on whoever occupies his space, requiring them to come up with a solution to the problem he causes.
  • Vocal Evolution: Jup Jup had a slightly deeper voice in the first season.
    • His voice later changed when Tim (who was also his puppeteer) left Hi-5.

Segment: Word Play (Series 1-17), The Chatterbox (Series 14-17), The Jupsters (Series 17)

Chatterbox, or "Chats" for short, is a long-necked creature who lives in a box and enjoys learning about and making up words.In series 14, she also appears in a new segment called the Chatterbox, where she teaches her robot friend Tinka how to speak English.
  • Affectionate Nickname: "Chats". She also has nicknames for her human friends.
  • Birthday Episode: In one series 4 episode, Chats celebrates her fifth birthday.
  • Character Catchphrase: "Hey Kell!" during Kellie's run on the show.
  • Character Signature Song: See Kellie.
    • In addition, there's also Looking For a Friend, a recurring song from series 7, where she meets Jup Jup for the first time. This song was later repurposed into the Jupsters song for series 17.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: She has an incredibly vivid imagination.
  • Motor Mouth: It's in her name!
  • Non-Human Sidekick: Chats is best friends with whoever presents the Word Play segment.
  • Vocal Evolution: In series 1, Chats spoke with Charli's normal voice, before becoming much more higher pitched in her later appearances.
    • Obviously, her voice also changed slightly when other puppeteers were brought on to play her.
     Tinka the Tin Toy Robot 

Segment: The Chatterbox (Series 14-17)

Tinka is a tin toy robot who appears in the Chatterbox segment that speaks in beeps and boops. Throughout the course of the series, Chats helps teach her how to speak English.
     Aristotle and Horace 

Segment: The Chatterbox (Series 14-17)

Aristotle and Horace are two bookworms who live in Chats' box, and help teach Tinka how to speak English.
     The Jupsters 

Segment: The Jupsters (Series 17)

The Jupsters are Jup Jup's family members, who were first introduced in the "Hi-5 Fairytale" tour and subsequently appeared in the 2017 reboot series. Their names are Jor Jor, Jed Jed, Jru Jru, Jaan Jaan, Jard Jard, Puj Puj and Jin Jinnote  .
  • All There in the Manual: A majority of the information we have about the Jupsters' actual personalities was given to us on the official Hi-5 social media accounts. In addition, these posts give us information about how the Jupsters are related.
  • Big Eater: Jru Jru.
  • Character Signature Song: "The Jupsters Song", adapted from "Looking for a Friend", which is sung by Chats.
  • Octopoid Aliens: Again, like Jup Jup, all of the Jupsters are very octopus-like in appearance.
  • Odd Name Out: Puj Puj is the only one who's name doesn't begin with a J.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Jor Jor and Jin Jin, the only female Jupsters, have pink fur.
  • Pokémon Speak: Like Jup Jup himself, the Jupsters mainly communicate by saying their own names.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Jaan Jaan is the baby of the group, yet is also an inventor who likes creating things.
