The Cadre
Avo
The main character of the story, a ghoul created by the the previous rulers of New Vultun, the Low Masters. Mysteriously enough, he's much more intelligent than the average ghoul, and was raised by a human.
- Noble Demon: Avo was raised by his adoptive father to restrain his appetite and violence. He still probably isn't very noble from a traditional standpoint, but he tries to avoid preying on the helpless.
- The Protagonist: The main character of the story.
- Unsportsmanlike Gloating: Avo most definitely has a bad habit of doing this at the worse possible time
- Vitriolic Best Buds: He has this dynamic with Draus.
Jelene Draus
A former Highflame soldier that was discharged in disgrace.
- Super-Soldier: Regulars are some of the setting's most dangerous non-Godclads and non-Necros. Barring a good chunk of the fateless, most people have physical enhancements in this setting. However, Regulars deserve special mention for having top-of-the-line physical enhancements. What sets regulars apart is their insane mental fortitude in traumatic situations, which many High Guilders to shame.
Kae Kusanade
An Agnos mixed up in Guild scheming, hiding at the beginning of the story.
- Omnidisciplinary Scientist: Per Kae herself. Agnos are trained in a variety of fields to understand how to aid thaumaturgy, including the relatively little people of New Vultun might know about the hard sciences (in comparison to Voidwatch
- Science Wizard: Considering a lot of thaumaturgy is based on mythology and what you can get people to believe in, she could qualify as this trope.
Chambers
A former enforcer of the Conflux syndicate, who ends up becoming a companion of Avo's by sheer luck, depending on how you look at it.
- Butt-Monkey: Draus and Avo view him as the most expendable member among their companions.
- Obfuscating Stupidity: Chambers is definitely an idiot (at least so far in-story), but there are times where he seems to play it up for survival, making inappropriate jokes to avoid uncomfortable topics, or playing up his stupidity to seem harmless
