Main Characters

     Robin
The Player Character, a young girl suffering from anxiety. Despite being a patient of Purgatory Ridge, she's still alive and can't remember how or why she got there.
  • Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: Inverted with her and Jay. Robin uses a scalpel to slash at enemies and almost all of her attacks are physical, while Jay is more focused on long range attacks.
  • The Load: Downplayed. She isn't normally this, since she can more than hold her own in combat. But if her anxiety sets in, she can easily become this, since the "skills" she uses in this state are either useless or only benefit her. Meaning every time she gets overwhelmed, at least one of the other party members has to basically sit the round out to calm her down.
  • Nervous Wreck: Her anxiety often causes her to break down during fights, until she or another party member calms her down. Outside of fights, her mental illness manifests as vicious, additional red flavor text, demeaning almost every action she takes and trying to convince her that the people around her either actively conspire against or hate her.
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: The In-Between to Jay's Nice and Sarcastic Ghost's Mean. Robin is generally amiable and polite, but can veer into Deadpan Snarker territory and is not afraid to speak up when she feels she's being treated unfairly.

     Jay

Jay Mallick

A young ghost boy about Robin's age. He's been stuck in the emergency ward for several months and thus knows his way around.
  • Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: Inverted between him and Robin. Jay's main weapon are basically ghost diet supplementary pills that he chucks at the enemy. His special attacks also have him shoot some of his plasma for damage.
  • Nice Guy: Jay is nothing but kind and supportive to Robin from the second they meet, immediately offering to help her with her quest to escape the emergency ward and find out what happened to her.
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: The Nice to Robin's In-Between and Sarcastic Ghost's Mean. Jay is selfless, kind and nurturing and willing to help others out and stick up for them without ever demanding or expecting some kind of reward. He almost instantly takes the scared newly arrived Robin under his wing, protecting her from a corrupted ghost attack and calling Vinny out for sending her to the ICU despite knowing how dangerous it was in there.

     Sarcastic Ghost
A cranky patient at Purgatory Ridge. He joins Robin and Jay in their quest to escape the emergency ward, somewhat against their will.
  • Deadpan Snarker: With a name like 'Sarcastic Ghost', that's a given.
  • Green and Mean: SG is a green-colored ghost, whose main character trait is his constant biting sarcasm. His reasons for joining the party are also explicitly selfish and he reacts impatient to Robin's anxiety attacks, grumpily demanding they just get on with it.
  • Improbable Weapon: He attacks enemies with his tears or his sludge.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold:
    • Despite his less than pleasant personality, there are some hints that he is this. While he doesn't seem to care much for his party members on the surface, his Wisecrack skill has him make fun of an enemy in order to alleviate Robin's anxiety in battle. The skill description even states that he does this because he wants to make Robin feel better.
    • When the trio confronts Carna in her office, he's the first one to truly stand up to her. When he does, he also explicitly calls her out on how she treated Robin and Jay and makes no mentions of her poor attitude toward him.
  • The Medic: He acts as the healer in his, Jay's and Robin's Power Trio, being the only one of the three who has healing skills that can be applied to other party members. Pretty much spelt out by his character class, which is Medic.
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: The Mean to Jay's Nice and Robin's In-Between. Sarcastic Ghost's abrasiveness doesn't exactly endear him to his fellow party members, who both rightfully think he's a jerk and were hesitant to let him join them at all. The only reason he's part of the team is that he more or less forced his way in and refused to leave.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Robin and Jay refer to him as Sarcastic Ghost or SG for short, since he refuses to give them his actual name.

Hospital Staff

     Carna
The terrifying head of the Emergency Ward. She's become a lot more despotic as of late, ordering certain patients' files to be kept on lock-down and closing off some of the wards.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Reading all the abandoned pages of her journal paints a rather grim picture. During her earlier days in charge of the Emergency Ward, a ghost child named Jared was placed under her care. Due to him being too unstable to be transferred to the Pediatric Ward, Carna decided to take him under her wing until his condition improved. However, Jared became so dependent on her for his mental stability that he suffered a complete mental breakdown once the time finally came for him to be transferred, which ended in him becoming corrupted and injuring several spirits in Carna's staff in the process. Following this, Carna was severely reprimanded by Dr. Libitina and given the wound on her chest to always remind her of her failure, after which she decided to never let her emotions get in the way of her work again.
  • Reptiles Are Abhorrent: She's a reptile-like spirit whose dogmatic and extremely hostile approach to keeping the Emergency Ward in order puts her at odds with Robin, Jay and Sarcastic Ghost.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Everything she does is for the sake of keeping the Emergency Ward safe and in order, even if that requires her to threaten and bully the patients into compliance.
  • Would Hurt a Child: She threatens Robin with killing her if she ever tries to leave the Emergency Ward. Dr. Poe confirms that she means it, too. While she doesn't go that far in the end, she has no trouble fighting Robin and Jay when they show up in her office to confront her and has already beat up Jay in the past.

     Dr. Poe

Dr. Xavier Poe Zition

Robin and Jay's personal physician. He's a great deal nicer than his boss Carna and does his best to help the kids out wherever and whenever he can.
  • Mr. Exposition: He's the one to introduce Robin to the world of the undead and to explain what Purgatory Ridge's purpose is. Later in the game, Robin can ask him more questions about the world and its rules, as well as what to do or where to go next.
  • Nice Guy: In sharp contrast to his boss, Dr. Poe is a kind soul who does his best to comfort Robin through her experience and help her adjust. He was also the first of the staff to actually reach out to Jay and help him get the medical supplies he needed, including material for binding.

     Minerva
Purgatory Ridge's quirky receptionist. Always up for a nice chat.
  • Cheery Pink: A light pink ghost with an upbeat disposition and seemingly not a trace of meanness in her body.
  • Foreshadowing: If you chat with her after Jay joins your party, she'll muse about how cool it'd be if someone else joined up too, so that the party can become a Power Trio. Her wish comes true when Sarcastic Ghost becomes a party member.
  • Justified Save Point: Minerva likes to keep records for both the hospital's staff and patients. While this gets her into trouble with her colleagues more often than not, it also allows Robin to save her progress.
