• Nice Guy: Jabari is a charming, easygoing, well-meaning kind of guy.
• Only Sane Man: He seems to be this compared to his friends. Certainly one of the more level-headed characters in the movie.
• Sequential Artist: He is a talented graffiti and comic artist.

Meadow Watson

Voiced by: Jessica Williams

A photographer living in New York and Jabari's love interest.

• Nice Girl: She's a pretty easy to like person.

Carmen

Voiced by: Laura Harrier

Jabari's ex-girlfriend

• Alpha Bitch: Inverted. She's not really an alpha of anything but she is the biggest bitch character in the movie.
• Jerkass: She appears to be very stubborn, self-ish and not all that pleasant of a person. She doesn't take responsibility for anything she did wrong.

Ky

Voiced by: Ty Dolla Sign

Jabari's friend.

• Ink-Suit Actor: Looks a lot like his voice actor.
• Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He seems to be more attracted to a woman based on their body than anything else. With that said, he does seem to care about Jabrari and doesn't want him to be just friendzone'd by someone he clearly shows interest in.

Jimmy

Jabari's friend

• Mr. Vice Guy: He may be a drug dealer but he's a pretty considerate guy.

Jordan

Voiced by: Jaden Smith

• Psycho Ex-Girlfriend: He describes his ex-girlfriend as a "wild one", someone that he is afraid to confront face-to-face.
• Too Dumb to Live: Even Jimmy points out how dumb he is for dating a girl he would have to call the cops on.

Karina

Voiced by: Vanessa Hudgens

Meadow's pregnant best friend.

• All Women Are Lustful: Easily fits the role of the horny, sex-addicted woman who encourages her best friend to just follow her "punan".

• Undying Loyalty: She is a caring friend to Meadows and supports her at her photography show.

Rob

Karina's husband and father of her child.

• Hidden Depths: He has a thing for feudal Japan.
• Nice Guy: Karina points out he is a good guy.
• The Quiet One: He doesn't have a line.
