* BigBeautifulWoman: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. In her normal form, Irma is typically depicted as chubby, and has a noticeably fuller figure when combined with her GagBoobs. She's never depicted as unattractive for it though, and gets just as much attention paid to her as the rest of the group.
* BigBreastPride: Too bad the one girl she tries to get jealous is ProudBeauty Cornelia...

* GagBoobs: She's quite shapely, especially given her age, but it's entirely used for laughs and teasing. To the point of getting {{Lampshaded}} by the ''Italian advertisement of the comics and the official site''.

* BareYourMidriff: In their Guardian forms, they all wear outfits that show some skin around the belly area. In their New Power forms, only Taranee and Hay Lin do.

* AsianAirhead: It has less to do with her being dumb, and more about being a hyperactive ditz. Also, while can still appear to be a complete airhead, she's ''much'' [[SmarterThanYouLook smarter than she looks, especially in the comics]].

* NamesTheSame: InUniverse. As her half-brother William, at least in their shortened versions. This led to amusing results when everyone got them mixed up at a family reunion.

* AmbiguouslyBrown: She's on the slightly dark shade of DarkSkinnedRedhead. With her mother's middle-eastern traits, it's implied that she's half-arab.

* ShesGotLegs: Their outfits emphatize their shapely legs in different ways.

* ImprobableAimingSkills: She still has to miss a target, but the best instance was when she saw a girl who was hitting on Matt while she was away and [[ClingyJealousGirl hit her with a cake thrown from Kandrakar]], after [[LampshadeHanging remarking she had a good aim]] when Irma doubted her ability to pull it off.

* BewareTheNiceOnes: Sweet, shy, not entirely confident girl. She will mess you up if you harm or threaten her inner circle, believe it. Case in point: her treatment of [[spoiler: Phobos]] in the fourth story arc. After he gave her an hell of a MindRape, she reacted by nearly ''torturing him to death'', and only spared him because she remembered just in time that [[spoiler: [[FreakyFridayFlip he wasn't in his real body]] and had to fix that situation]]. He escapes, but in their next encounter he finds himself at her mercy and has barely enough time for a BigNo before she ''[[DeaderThanDead disintegrates his soul]]''. Ouch...

* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: Irma loves junk food, has a crass sense of humor, and is a coach potato in regards to physical activity, but she also likes cute clothes, music, and crushes often on guys.

* BadassTeacher: Only in the comics. They temporarily become teachers to other kids with magical abilities in the eighth saga.

* CustomUniformOfSexy: The Guardian outfits only have in common the wings, purple shoes, leggings striped in two shades of green, and tops and bottoms being coloured either aqua green or purple (pink in the cartoon), plus exposed stomach for the first outfits and some kind of gloves in the New Power outfits. Everything else is different... and the end result is ''always'' sexy.
* ADayInTheLimelight: They each get their own personal story in Lene Kaaberbøl's novels.
* DudeMagnet: All of them have caught the attention of more than one guy.

* EvilTwin: Has happened about three times:
** "The Mogriffs" had the girls being impersonated by scapegoating and vicious creatures called, "Mogriffs". They were summoned by Phobos to trick his sister into thinking they wanted to hurt them.
** "I is for Illusion" had Nerissa pretending to be each of the girls in order to shatter the bond between them.
** "P is for Protectors" Nerissa again pretended to be the girls in order for Kadma to not trust them.

* FiveTokenBand: Will is AmbiguouslyBrown, Irma is Latina, Cornelia is Caucasian, Taranee is African-American and Hay Lin is Asian.

* HealingFactor: In the comic they have "Xing-Jing's Gift", that allows them to heal faster than usual, not feel the fatigue from the transformation, and over time healed Taranee's sight.

* OlderAlterEgo: The Guardian forms.
* OneDegreeOfSeparation: Well before ever meeting each other they were connected through the previous generation of Guardians, as Yan Lin personally knew three of them and Kadma and Halinor were keeping tabs on Will and Taranee through the people helped by their charity.
* PhysicalGoddess: Where Will, as the Keeper of the Heart, had the potential from the start, the whole group reaches this level in the New Power arc, as shown when Hay Lin ''picked an hurricane and closed it in a small paper box''.
* PowerGivesYouWings: In the comic [[WingsDoNothing the wings were useless]] (except with Hay Lin) until the New Power arc. In the Arkhanta arc they even [[LampshadeHanging admitted they had no idea why they had wings]].

* PurpleIsPowerful: Their Guardian uniforms, though they look more pink in the animated series.

* WingsDoNothing: Initially their wings are useless in the comics. [[LampshadeHanging Upon being asked why they have them if only Hay Lin can fly, they admitted they had no idea and made a note to ask the Oracle]].

* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: The comics showed that Will's friends from Fadden Hills only hung out with her because they felt sorry for her due to her parents being divorced. They didn't even like her. It was never shown if this happened to the cartoon Will. One of her enemies tried to trick her into thinking this would eventually happen with the other Guardians, but the Oracle assured her that even ''he'' could not see what the future would be.
* AmbiguouslyBrown: She's on the slightly dark shade of DarkSkinnedRedhead.

* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: WordOfGod states that she's the strongest of the five because she has control over Quintessence.
* BadassInCharge: The leader of the Guardians and the most powerful of all of them. Inverted in season one of the show as she had no offensive powers, played straight in season two when she gets [[LightningCanDoAnything Quintessence]].

* CustomUniformOfSexy: The Guardian outfits only have in common the wings, purple shoes, leggings striped in two shades of green, and tops and bottoms being coloured either aqua green or purple (pink in the cartoon), plus exposed stomach for the first outfits and some kind of gloves in the New Power outfits. Everything else is different... And the end result is ''always'' sexy.

* PersonalityPowers: Yan Lin explains they all have personality powers: Irma got water because it can't be contained (like Irma when she decides to do something), Taranee got fire because she's the only one reliable enough to be trusted with it (as Cedric points out once, when Taranee gets pissed you must RUN. And he did so), Cornelia got Earth because she tends to function with hard logic, and Hay Lin got Air because she's a dreamer. Will's power remains unexplained until the New Power saga of the comic, when her 'Energy' power is finally defined as that which unites the elements and leads them, balancing between their different personalities. Will fits this archetype after her character develops.

* {{Qipao}}: Both her original and New Power Guardian outfits are based on this.

* SexierAlterEgo: In Guardian form they don't just become older, they get the body they dream of. Made most evident by Will's ''actual'' older form (shown in two possible futures) being less busty than the Guardian form, Irma's Guardian form being skinnier than the actual Irma, and the Guardian form of Cornelia, who is the one who is actually happy with her body shape, simply being an OlderAlterEgo with RapunzelHair and wings.

* RapunzelHair: Her new costume gives her longer, curlier hair.

* RapunzelHair: She has long blond hair in human form, but it grows out so that it almost reaches the ''floor'' in Guardian form. At times she can even use it as a weapon.

* RapunzelHair: Her hair is so long that it nearly touches her ankles. Since the New Power story arc, her air [[UpToEleven gets longer]] in Guardian form.

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: The only one with blue hair. Similarly to Hay Lin, they are in-universe black.

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: ZigZagged. Her hair are clearly and consistently purple, being the most prominent example of animesque hair color among main characters. Yet in-universe, they are described as simply black.

* TheGlassesGottaGo: Defied. Not only she keeps her glasses in her Guardian form, she's ''pissed'' when due to HealingFactor her regular self no longer needs glasses, a gift she never asked for - that despite she used to be BlindWithoutEm. Even once she no longer needs prescription lenses, she keeps plain glasses to keep up the {{Masquerade}}.
* GogglesDoNothing: After the [[HealingFactor Xing-Jing's Gift]] heals her sight in the comic she takes off the corrective lenses from her glasses and replaces them with plain ones, as just ditching her glasses would be suspicious.

* {{Meganekko}}: She even wears glasses after transforming!

* ChineseGirl: The only Asian person among the protagonists. Not counting Taranee who is half-Asian but Japanese instead of Chinese.

The Earth Guardian, Cornelia is from a wealthy family and is easily one of the most popular girls at school. She enjoys figure skating. At first was head-over-heels for Caleb, but later on realized that they were [[JustFriends just friends]]. Later, she falls for Peter, Taranee's older brother. Averted in the cartoon, where she remains a couple with Caleb and Peter has no interest in her. Close friend with Will and best frenemy with Irma.

* MixedAncestry: Her father is white and her mother is a still unspecified ethnicity. Fanon likes to see her as being Middle Eastern.

* KidHero They start off at the ages of 12 and 13.

* NotSoDifferent: With Cornelia. Both are stubborn and can be insensitive at times, but are [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold jerks with heart of gold]]. They also go through BreakTheHaughty moments in the cartoon version.

* RedHeadedStepchild: To Dean in the comics. To Serena in the TV series. Subverted in that they both actually care about her and don't treat her like the trope, in the show she treats them with distrust until she warms up to them with one issue of the comics being about her finally calling Dean "Dad!"

* {{Tomboy}}: Enjoys sports (competitive swimming is her main interest) and frogs.

* TomboyishName: {{Justified}} given how embarrassing her first name is.

* AsianAndNerdy: She is half-Asian from her mother's side whom puts great focus on education. [[spoiler: Although Taranee is adopted and she might not be half-Asian at all]]

* GoodWithNumbers: Her favorite subject is mathematics.

* {{Nerd Action Hero}}ine: Taranee is the nerdiest girl of the group.

* OnlySaneWoman: Sometimes has to be this.

* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Taranee isn't fond of bugs, except for butterflies, grasshoppers, and crickets.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: The only one with blue hair (though Hay Lin's hair is often described as black).

* AsianAirhead: Type Two, but ''much'' [[SmarterThanYouLook smarter than she looks, especially in the comics]].
* TheBabyOfTheBunch: The youngest member of W.I.T.C.H.

* PerpetualSmiler: About 98% of the time. [[{{Tearjerker}} You should be worried when she's not smiling.]] In one arc of the Ragorlang arc her optimism allows her to save her friends.

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: She's the only main character that has an animesque hair color. She's sometimes shown with or described as having black hair.
