Gameplay

  • When evolving Fortunehunter Feena, she bestows the player a Goblin Mage and changes the card cost to zero. For those familiar with the Rage of Bahamut lore, Feena is the caretaker of Goblin Mage, and changing the card cost to zero also highlights Feena's guardianship to Goblin Mage is incredibly valuable to her.
    • In addition, Goblin Mage herself is often used tutor Rhinoceroach when no other 1 or 2 play point followers are in the deck. Since Rhinoceroach is a gold rarity follower used in OTK Roach combos, having a 0 play point Goblin Mage pulling a Rhinoceroach is seen as incredibly valuable to the Roach player (as Goblin Mage herself is obssessed with "sparkly" stuff).
  • In terms of matchups, Havencraft is often a very bad matchup for Shadowcraft because of Havencraft's access to banishes to deny Last Words effects and shadows needed for Necromancy effects. This highlights many RPG games where holy powers (Havencraft) can defeat the undead (Shadowcraft). It also highlights an old superstition in medieval Europe that the powers of God can fully put the dead to rest, hence why many cemeteries are often built near churches and funerals are often held by churches.
  • Some classes have a very specific deck archetype niche:
    • Havencraft is often specialized in a control playstyle with Healing Factor, sturdy Wards, board wipes, and damage negation effects. This relates to the fact that Havencraft is the defender of faith, and must protect the word and power of God through defense.
    • Forestcraft is often specialized in combos, and many of their followers are forest-themed and archers. In Real Life, archers are not well-known for their brute strength, but their sheer dexterity, precision, and marksmanship. Archers attacking in the forest is often much easier than archers attacking in an open field due to utilization of Hit-and-Run Tactics and ability to retreat into the woods when necessary. These two aspects are generally the reason why many of Forestcraft followers tend to be understatted and utilize the aspect of Weak, but Skilled when it comes to their combos.
      • Forestcraft can also spit out a wide board easily with Zerg Rush as well; being attacked by multiple Fairies can be very annoying.
    • Swordcraft is often very specialized aggro decks with early game Storm followers; a common strategy during the medieval period was to constantly send soldiers to attack until the enemy is defeated and only go in the defensive when necessary. And speaking of defensive, Swordcraft also has access to a reasonable number of Wards, which reflect on how knights and soldiers are often served as bodyguards to kings, generals, and nobles in their lifetime (which many of them are also Swordcraft followers). And speaking of Zerg Rush, both Aggro and Midrange Sword's main strategy is applying pressure by constantly having wide boards, which reflects on how medieval warfare is often decided by armies with vastly superior numbers.
    • Why does Dragoncraft have a Quality over Quantity approach? Because dragons are often powerful, yet slow creatures, which Dragoncraft can only spit out a single threat at a time which the opponent must answer. Dragoncraft has followers that are often hard to deal with, as many of Dragoncraft's high play point followers that use have large amount of attack and defense.
      • In addition, Dragoncraft as a class has the most number of board wipe options when compared to other classes, highlighting how most dragons often have powers to wipe out large armies easily, hence Dragoncraft is often the best class to shut down any Zerg Rush strategies.
  • When using Crystalia Lily Enhance effect, she transforms a follower into a Snowman, which reflects on her ice powers in Rage of Bahamut. Her being mostly used in control decks reflects on her portrayal in other games where she's often depicted as a "support" or "utility" character (which is highlighted with her appearance in Granblue Fantasy).
  • One of the best followers to use with Silva's Accelerate effect is Cucouroux, Green Gunsmith. Cucouroux herself is the younger sister of Silva, which her Silva Accelerate effect allows Cucouroux to attack her foes immediately and dealing 2 damage to them before they attack, hence reflecting on how Silva looks out for Cucouroux.
    • When using Cucouroux's Enhance effect, she also spawns Camieux, Gunpowder Gal, who happens to be Silva's and Cucouroux's adapted younger sister. This also reflects on how Cucouroux looks after Camieux much like how Silva looks after Cucouroux. Gameplay wise, playing Silva's Accelerate effect with Cucouroux and using Cucouroux's Enhance effect together on curve are considered incredibly strong on curve plays for most Portalcraft lists (especially when Camieux's is evolved on curve and trade into an enemy follower, ensuring most of the Last Words effect either weaken the opponent, or have most of the bullets attack the enemy leader).

Themes and Card Interactions

  • Several expansions have a particular theme involved:
    • In Wonderland Dreams, the main theme of the expansion is fairy tales (particularly Alice in Wonderland). The expansion puts a lot of emphasis on neutral card synergy, which highlights Alice's curious personality in the original Alice in Wonderland tale. Her curiosity in Wonderlands opens to hundreds of possibilities, hence the emphasis on Neutral cards.
    • In Chronogenesis, the main theme of the expansion is time. This is the expansion that introduced the Rotation format and the new class, Portalcraft. Portalcraft as a class has followers with a Magitek theme with otherworldly beings and sci-fi like followers, and is a class that specializes in midrange and control decks. In the Rotation format, a lot of aggressive early game cards from Classic and Darkness Evolved meta were rotated out: hence, the Rotation format put a lot more emphasis on slower games with most aggro decks and OTK combos becoming non-existent (with the except of aggro Forestcraft).
    • Dawnbreak, Nightedge introduced the Choose mechanic, which gives more binary classes such as Sword more versatility than before. The main theme of this expansion is the clash between light and dark. The Choose mechanic has the "dark" options being more aggressive and more proactive while the "light" option is more defensive and reactive. This is easily highlighted with the poster legendary card Moon and Sun. The "dark" option, Tsukuyomi, is more aggressively stated and has a Clash effect that deals 1 damage to the enemy leader; while the "light" option, Amaterasu, is more defensively stated and has a Clash effect of restoring 1 defense to your leader.
    • The main "omens" of "Omen of the Ten" expansion are based on the biblical Ten Commandments:
Mjerrabaine, Omen of One: Thou shall have no other Gods before men.
Lishenna, Omen of Destruction: Thou shall not make idols.
Rulenye, Omen of Silence: Thou shall not take the name of the lord your God in vain.
Marwynn, Omen of Repose: Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Galmieux, Omen of Disdain: Honour thy father and thy mother.
Izudia, Omen of Unkilling: Thou shall not kill.
Valnareik, Omen of Lust: Thou shall not commit adultery.
Octrice, Omen of Usurpation: Thou shall not steal.
Raio, Omen of Truth: Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
Gilnelise, Omen of Craving: Thou shalt not covet.
      • The male omens follow the ten commandments while the female omens do something against the ten commandments, which reflect on the biblical passages on what sins a male and female would most likely commit.
  • If the player plays Innocent Princess Prim when an opponent Orthrus and Cerberus is on board, she greets with a friendly demeanor and even gives Orthus an Affectionate Nickname, "Orthypoo." Considering her isolation in her castle by her father due to her purity, she's highly unaware of the threats of underworld creatures (especially in regards to Cerberus, who's known for her playful personality). This is a stark contrast with her personal maid, Nonja, Silent Maid, who treats them with suspicion, since Nonja is more aware of the outside world (as evident with her quote when the opposing Orthrus is at board).
  • Playing Veight, Vampire Noble when an opposing Vania, Vampire Princess is on board will have him utter this quote: Vania, let us return to the castle. Veight is the twin brother of Vania, who's is overly protective of her due to Vania's more adventurous and outgoing personality, and often leaves the castle in her own adventures.
