openArgument regarding Worlds Strongest Man Film
So on the MCU Hulk page, the entry of World's Strongest Man of Hulk losing said title to Captain Marvel and Wanda was removed without reason in September, so I added it back. Now garlington41 removed it again with very flimsy reasoning. I don't think that "strongest" is to be taken literally in Wanda's case (he even says she is more powerful) and what's said regarding Cap Marvel is pure speculation without any base in reality (the whole absorbing thing) and ignoring Word of God, which indeed did state that she is now the top dog. Since I don't wanna edit war, how to proceed?
Edited by ForenperseropenYMMV page for Danny DeVito? Film
Danny DeVito had an entry for Ascended Meme that was misuse. I deleted the example because I felt it would fit Fountain of Memes better. Should I create a YMMV page for DeVito to add the Fountain of Memes entry? Or is it okay to put it on the Creator page?
Edited by DrNoPumaopen Unintentional Wimp trope? Film
So, I wanted to put in a trope about how Cole from Mortal Kombat 2021, despite being the main character and The Chosen One in this universe, can't actually defeat anyone without help. In every one of his fights, he's needed somebody else to intervene or else he's defeated. I can't use Adaptational Wimp because he's made specifically for that film, I can't use Badass Decay because he wasn't exactly a badass to begin with, and as far as I know, there's no Unintentional Wimp trope. What would be the proper trope here?
openStar Wars Ho Yay Film
HoYay.Star Wars Expanded Universe includes some examples from the main Star Wars movies, which should probably go on their own page, but I can't create new pages from my phone.
open Captain Marvel - is there a trope for this? Film
What trope (if any) covers the following scene in Captain Marvel?
Danvers and Fury are sitting together trying to prove to each other they're not Skrulls. Danvers decides to demonstrate her photon blast as proof, at which point Fury points out that it proves nothing - for all he knows, every Skrull can do that.
I feel like there's an obvious trope for this situation, but I can't think of it, and a quick of the work's page didn't turn up any references to this scene. Ideas?
openWhat cleanup forum should I go? Film
14 Blades page is a mess. There two images on a main page. One is the page image and one is in the middle. Apparently there was a few before they were deleted. So I was planning to go on a cleanup page but idk which one fits. So can you help me? Thank you
openSadko Film
I've wondered for years what to do about Film.Sadko, the wiki's page for the 1953 Alexander Ptushko film starring Sergei Stolyarov as the title minstrel from the classic Novgorod epics.
The description acknowledges that the script for the film's early 1960s English dub (scripted by a young Francis Ford Coppola) as The Magic Voyage of Sinbad (the subject of one of my personal favourite Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes) bears little to no resemblance to the original script for Sadko; all of the names are changed, starting with re-imagining the very Russian Sadko as the very Arabian Sinbad, and several story points are either dropped entirely or mangled by the translation. However, the page takes a very muddled, not to mention snide, approach to this, combining the original and dub names (the hero is referred to throughout as "Sinbadko") when it doesn't just go for nicknames (such as referring to the Maharaja as "Prince Farr" because of his resemblance to Jamie Farr).
The reason I don't know what to do about the page is that the wiki's policy is to use English names where they're available, but in this case, the English script might as well be for a completely different film. However, I have to imagine that's true of countless anime series (what I know about anime wouldn't fill a matchbook, but Macek's name has still crossed my radar), including series that were cobbled together from two or more other series to the point that you could practically see the staples holding them together. And goodness knows which names to use on those pages is often contentious.
So... what to do? Use the names from the dub, even though the story is completely different? Use the names from the original, even though wiki policy is to use English names where they exist? Have separate lists for Sadko and The Magic Voyage of Sinbad?
openAbout Character Pages Film
I did a reorganization of Characters.Jurassic Park and I currently am trying to figure out if such an endeavor needed approval from other Tropers, It’s such a huge reorganization I thought it needed it.
openPotential edit war Film
Hello.
Not sure if this is the correct form to report a potential Edit War - or if its one to begin with. Still, let's try:
In article for Miracle Mile, Fat Pumpkin Rex made an edit that not only doesn't have much bearing with the plot, but it also reads like a natter. I cut it, with a commentary why it is being cut... and FatPumpkinRex put it back, word-for-word, right after that. I've already send him a note asking about it, but so far dead silence.
What now?
openTrope misuse in Zack Snyder's Justice League Film
I have two potential cases of trope misuse in Zack Snyder's Justice League. First, we have Advertised Extra, with two examples:
- Jesse Eisenberg is billed amongst the main cast, but is only seen in the Genesis Chamber in the opening credits without a word spoken, and in the Epilogue having a conversation with Deathstroke.
- Henry Cavill reflects this in more of a Small Role, Big Impact way, while Superman and his supporting cast does have some expanded content and is more heavily discussed in earnest prior to his resurrection, much of it is alternate takes of scenes and dialogue in the theatrical version rather than a reinstated subplot (as with Flash and Cyborg).
An Advertised Extra is character or actor who was prominent in advertisements turns out to only have a minor role. While a case can be made that Eisenberg is an AE, I have serious doubts of whether or not Cavill can be considered as such.
Then, there's Adaptational Badass, with the following context: "As a result of many action moments being restored, the heroes come off as more badass in this version (or rather, the 2017 film made them Adaptational Wimps, since the recut version of the film was the originally intended project).
- Diana's fight with Steppenwolf shows her holding her own a bit more. For one, Flash doesn't save her from falling debris and she outright knocks him over when she hits him with her bracelets shockwave. Steppenwolf is even shown having apprehension about facing her before getting to his axe.
- The Flash is more action oriented, taking on Parademons more directly (with a signature "tap with two fingers" attack) and utilizing Flash Step to save people from falling debris. He is also more confident with his powers, with the range and upper limits more fully explored, culminating in him managing to reverse time by a few seconds to save the League and the rest of the Earth from the Unity.
- Batman gets tossed around much less and his role in the Final Battle is made considerably more useful, essentially handling the reduction of Parademon defenses around Steppenwolf's base all on his own.
- Cyborg makes more use of his Arm Cannons, at one point even making an entire city block collapse on Parademons via a barrel roll.
- Aquaman causing Steppenwolf to be Blown Across the Room more often with quindent strikes, even using the quindent to send a water-based shockwave at one point.
- Superman only needs a small puff with zero effort to freeze Steppenwolf's axe, not a sustained Super-Breath.
- Even the Parademons, with some of them managing to destroy the Batmobile and stopping the Flash mid-race with plasma cannons. Overall, they come off as more of a threat than they were in the 2017 film.
Both Adaptational Badass and Adaptational Wimp have been constantly misused for years, and the tropes are when a character's effectiveness, agency and contributions to the story are increased/decreased, not just their raw power. This is a superhero movie we're talking about, after all.
So, what do you say?
openQuestionable YMMV Wording Film
YMMV.Jason And The Argonauts has some complainy entries for Narm and Took the Bad Film Seriously. I don't know if it's accurate or not, but should they be commented out or removed (haven't seen the movie so I can't reword them)?
openTroper engaging in edit war, being rude Film
Over at Stuart Saves His Family, Anddrix removed the following example after bringing it up in the ZCE thread and after I said in the thread that it could be removed:
- Uncertain Audience: As Al Franken noted twenty years later:
Al Franken: Somebody wrote a review that said something like, "Watching Stuart Saves His Family go into the multiplexes is like watching a platoon of rookie soldiers head into an ambush. The people who will like this movie won’t go to it, and the people who will go to it won’t like it."
The rationale used to remove it was that it was a ZCE since it relies on a quote to do most of the explaining, and is also used largely to complain.
Another Guy, however, reverted it with the rather rude edit reason:
Said troper later expanded it to this:
- Uncertain Audience: As Al Franken noted in an interview with Vanity Fair twenty years later about how film's marketing attracted the wrong audience, as noted above in Misblamed:
Al Franken: Somebody wrote a review that said something like, "Watching Stuart Saves His Family go into the multiplexes is like watching a platoon of rookie soldiers head into an ambush. The people who will like this movie won’t go to it, and the people who will go to it won’t like it."
While this entry is slightly better, it still relies on another entry and largely relies on a quote, so I am unsure if it is still a ZCE.
Another Guy also sent me a somewhat rude PM about the edit on top of that.
What should be done here?
openExample help requested: films and cukoloris Film
Do you know at least one of the following movies (or the last series well enough to not make the example not general)? Would you be willing to read what a Cukoloris (actually spelled cucoloris) is and discover how it's used in the movie(s)/series you like?
- Alien
- Batman & Robin
- David Lynch's Dune (so Dune (1984))
- Death Machine
- Guardians of the Galaxy
- Swordfish
- Sucker Punch
- Steven Spielberg is fond of using these with underlighting to illuminate a character's face when seeing a reflective object. Particularly noteworthy as an effect used when Indiana Jones is uncovering a golden or glowing idol or artifact.
- Star Trek: The Original Series: Though not exactly "an opaque sheet with holes in it," shadows from devices like these were often used to suggest structural detail that's off camera (and so doesn't have to actually be built). Look in the "overhead" area of the ship's interiors, particularly where a corridor opens onto a larger junction.
openProm Night Film Series Film
So I’m trying to create a film page for the Prom Night Slasher Movie film series but I got redirected to the disambiguation page. Is there any way to launch a page for the films without being redirected to that page?
Edited by k410renopenPage contains non-existant tropes Film
Alright this is a weird one.
Flubber has a few tropes on the page that do not appear to actually exist/ever existed. The tropes in question are "Creating Life Is Unforseen", "Save The Orphanage", and "Water Gun And Balloons".
Should I delete them? Or is there something I don't know about these "tropes"?
openSong of the South deletions Film
pino has been deleting entries related to the backlash against Song of the South (many of which just objectively describe decisions related to the film's controversial content) without providing edit reasons. I PM'd them yesterday about this issue, but they have not responded despite actively editing today. I'm concerned this might be a matter of personal agenda, though they have other valid edits.

Edited by mightymewtronopenDC Extended Universe - Individual Character Pages and where characters are listed in franchises Film
I'm confused. Any reason why characters like Mera got individual pages when there isn't much information. What's the line to be drawn for this. NOTE: The fact that there are alternate universes is not an excuse such as the Knightmare timeline to do this (Knightmare is a big link farm). Yea, there could be a fine line to draw. At the same time, there could be confusion about where an overall character's assignment is. One to be careful of is Swanwick/Manhunter (Listed in US Military as Swanwick for MoS and BvS but under Justice League (as Manhunter) for ZSJL
What is the rule for individual pages and indexing again?

openDarkseid as an Adaptational Nice Guy Film
In the character page for Apokolips, Darkseid has an entry for Adaptational Nice Guy with the following context:
"If you can believe it! Normally, Darkseid is utterly intolerant of losing, and will often take out his rage on his underlings who failed him. And if not his underlings, then anyone who happens to be nearby. He will also try to get in one last parting shot if he knows he's beaten (see Dan Turpin's fate in Superman: The Animated Series). Not to mention, he also does not tolerate being questioned, even by his advisorsnote The DCAU version of Desaad met his end after laying into Darkseid for making a bad decision to attack Highfather. Here, however, when Steppenwolf's severed head is sent through the boomtube and the heroes stare him down, he calmly lets the boomtube close without making a move, and when Desaad seemingly gloats that he told Darkseid that Steppenwolf would fail, Darkseid acknowledges Desaad's words, before simply ordering that an armada be readied instead."
I have to ask: is this really valid? To me, this comes off as Adaptational Pragmatic Villainy or something. This is the same thing that happened when the Superman from the DC Animated Universe was labelled an Adaptational Wimp simply because he wasn't as astronomically powerful as comic book Superman or when the Batman from the DC Extended Universe was labelled an Adaptational Dumbass simply because he wasn't a borderline-omniscient super-genius as comic book Batman. What do you say?
Live-Action Films: The Space Mutiny example under the Mystery Science Theater 3000 heading has a reply arguing with the main entry. I don't know anything about the character to fix it. Started a discussion on the discussion page.
(There's also a discussion about making the Mystery Science Theater 3000 entries their own page.)
