YMMV / Stuart Saves His Family

Go To

  • Heartwarming Moments: Donnie standing up for Stuart when two barfly friends of his try to force Stuart to drink a beer, then administering a Groin Attack to one of them with a pool cue when he tries to punch Stuart when he tries to defuse the situation.
  • Misaimed Marketing: Al Franken noted in an interview with Vanity Fair twenty years later about the film's marketing attracting the wrong audience. The marketing attempts would emphasize the Saturday Night Live connection, which was associated with other sketches turned into films, like Wayne's World and Coneheads. But unlike those broad comedies, this film was more of a dramedy that focused on serious subjects like addiction, verbal abuse, and family trauma.
Al Franken: Somebody wrote a review that said something like, "Watching Stuart Saves His Family go into the multiplexes is like watching a platoon of rookie soldiers head into an ambush. The people who will like this movie won’t go to it, and the people who will go to it won’t like it."
