Ask the Tropers:
openPower Rangers Dino Fury Live Action TV
So I noticed that the Trope page and everything for it was removed (which is odd since every other Sentai/Ranger series got theirs kept before their series launched). Well, the series came out today, so can we get it put back?
openHow there is no mention in AwesomeBossBattle / Videogames to Ghost of Tsushima?
The videogame is a GOTY and its gameplay is awesome, especially the boss duels. I personally haven't played it and my narrative is not very good cause iam not enaglish native, so I'm not going to add it myself yet.
openPower Rangers Dino Fury Page Live Action TV
I noticed that the page for Dino Fury was deleted because "Per Creating A Work Page For An Upcoming Work, this TV series needs a release scheduling to trope, and this series doesn't have one." Since the series just premiered today, will it be okay to recreate the page and give it the proper work in the next few days?
openhow close is too close for ymmv?
if i make a page for my friends fanfic, which I am the beta of, can I make ymmv tropes on it? i don't contribute to the story at all, I only edit for grammar and spelling
openI created my first page, which was a red link in the wrong namespace
If I created a page in the wrong namespace, what do I do? The page is a red link and states that one inbound link is already abandoned. Is there a way to fix it, or do I simply recreate it?
This was a while back, In January.
openCalling for a lock on YMMV.WandaVision
Look, this "The trio vs. Hayward" debate on YMMV.Wanda Vision has become far too annoying. Now people have added Unintentionally Unsympathetic to the page-not for Wanda, but for the trio-and have rewritten the Unintentionally Sympathetic entry to leather pants Hayward. Note that this is after we agreed to wait for the show to end.
- Unintentionally Sympathetic: Hayward may be a Jerkass willing to pull several amoral acts (including launching a missile strike on a civilian town) to further his plans, but some fans have found themselves sympathizing with him, thanks to a combination of him essentially having to hold S.W.O.R.D. together in the five years after the Snap and the fact that he doesn't have the information the audience has on Wanda — meaning that all he sees of her is a former terrorist holding an entire town hostage.
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Related to the above, Monica, Jimmy, and Darcy can be seen as this. While their status as a trio of audience surrogates means that they share more information about Wanda with the viewers (especially Monica, who was in the Hex for a while and experienced everything firsthand), since no one else on the S.W.O.R.D. team has that information, all they see is a group of people sympathizing with a terrorist and arguing against stopping her — thus, Hayward had every right to have them escorted out of the camp.
I might be overreacting, but I am seriously coming to the conclusion that we need to lock the page to stop this.
openHow to add video examples to page with none.
I'm trying to add video to Moment Of Awesome but there is no video examples tab and when I try to make one by pressing the create new button but it doesn't show up. I was just wondering how do I add video examples to a page that doesn't have any. Thanks.
openConfused or trolling troper
Amazingloch has several recent edits that are...concerning. This page created by them is full of nothing but emojis, and there are several others like it. Their edits to this page back in November were apparently meant as a "test page", which was eventually replaced with a link to the cutlist and left in that state. And then there's a page or two like this that just have "1" on them.
I can't quite tell whether they seriously mean well and are just majorly confused, or if they're trying to be funny or something.
Edited by Willowleaf24openBattle of the Multiverse Web Original
There's an entire work page for a "Web Amination" called Battleofthe Multiverse created by a user called HappyTreeSponge, which I'm pretty sure isn't even a thing, as I scoured for it online. What should be done?
Edited by gothamarkhamlordopenHelp, please
J Briskin violated Example Indentation, I fixed it and then sent them a notifier, and now they reinstated the misindentation while also adding word cruft.
Need permission to revert this, because I'd be edit-warring if I removed the misindentation again, and sending them another PM won't do anything at this point. Sigh...
openRecap Page Screwed Up
Started editing some pages on the recap page for Code Geass: Paladins of Voltron and noticed that it's no longer including the index to the main recap when one of the pages is filled in. Is this a problem on my end (I just got off a suspension) or is this happening to other people as well?
And yes, I did use a blank edit to the main page to see if that would fix things. It didn't. At all.
Edited by Flameal15kopenMiddle initial Live Action TV
How does Stephen J. Cannell get his middle initial with period? I looked at the page source and maybe I missed it, but I don't see anything to indicate it.
openPossible Whitewashing on a Dictator's Useful Notes, and Possible Ban Evader
UsefulNotes.Francisco Franco recently got a couple of pretty large edits from new user Tropers.dd23zz
The biggest of them was changing a section about his politics from this:
to this:
with the edit reason of: "The previous description about ideology was flawed and was made either by a non-neutral biased person, or a poorly informed one."
I believe that this may be Tropers.Ryzov_meister9247 ban-evading. Ryzov was heavily focused on promoting the works of alt-right author Robert Mitchell, most notably FanFic.Sister Floriana, a "fanfic" of an art collection by Japanese artist "Diva" that engages in historical revisionism focused on whitewashing Francisco Franco and his regime.
He was banned for campaigning to restore our page on Stonetoss (a neo-nazi propaganda webcomic) and editing pages related to the Spanish Civil War (the above page, Homage to Catalonia, etc.) to insert entries along the lines of "Historical Hero Upgrade: The enemies of Franco were actually murdering communist rapists" or "Historical Villain Upgrade: Franco was actually a hero defending Spanish Christians and opposing the Dirty Commies", etc. He has also ban-evaded in the past using the account Tropers.Book Buccaneer
Given their identical Single-Issue Wonk of "Francisco Franco was actually an anti-communist hero and totally not a fascist" and dd23zz's first edits coming a week or two after Book Buccaneer was banned, it seems pretty conclusive to me.
Edited by Dirtyblue929openWhat category are pirates, ninjas, samurai, spacemen, knights, greasers, spies, etc? Film
These are all the roles characters may take in any medium, but its not a trope nor a stereotype since its not involving the character's personality, but instead a literal description of what they are. Woody and Buzz are Cowboy and Spacemen, or Cowboys vs Aliens with Cowboy and Aliens. In videogame or RP Gs these would usually be classified as classes but I'm not sure what the "term" is.
openDC Infinite Frontier Print Comic
DC Infinite Frontier already has a YMMV page available, but I must question the validity and necessity for it in the first place, for the same reason I complained about the YMMV page of DC Future State. For now, the only entry is:
- Author's Saving Throw: Though not the entire point, it seems many of the creative decisions being pushed forward are in an attempt to undo or pave over the legacy of New 52 and the Dan DiDio era of DC. Among them, Wally West is taking primary focus in the Flash book after years of being a Creator's Pest, pre-Flashpoint continuity and history seems to have been restored, the Justice Society is back, the universe is tonally much more brighter with more focus on the building towards the future, and the legacies that have built around tentpole characters are being embraced. Essentially, there's a DC Rebirth like quality to the hype, except this time, the people behind-the-scenes responsible for New 52 are gone, so there's less chance for back-sliding.
The event hasn't even premiered yet, so we don't even know how is this trope gonna apply or even if it will apply at all. What should we do?
Edited by MasterHeroopenBand question Music
I was browsing The Mechanisms' page and found they were 'created' by Dr. Carmilla, who also has a page for her solo work, and the Mechanisms struck out on their own pretty quickly. But for their brief time when they worked together, I found that also has a page, Dr. Carmilla & the Mechanisms, which is pretty bare-bones and hasn't updated in 4 years. Since both parts of the band decided to continue working within the same storyline but under separate names, is the collab page really necessary since they're more famous as separate acts?
Edited by lalalei2001open Music-Inspired narratives? Music
Honestly, this could be a trope itself. I’m thinking of music-inspired narratives like Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Space Dandy, Afro Samurai, Baby Driver, ETC.
Name more music-inspired narratives. Maybe this could be its own article or something.
Edited by TheBryceKrispyopenA case of RtDE or not?
While browsing through the history of Paper Mario the Origami King, I found some... concerning edits that seem to be trying to make Bobby, an ally in the game, seem like more of a Jerkass than he actually is, with the editor going as far as to say he's a Hypocrite.
Is this okay, or is it a case of Ron the Death Eater?
Edited by Spideyresolved Mandalorian Memes Live Action TV
Some of these Memes. The Mandalorian entries have two bullet points each in the page source, yet display with single indentation. What messed up the coding?
- Mando doing sidequests.Explanation Jokes about Din being Railroaded into doing "sidequests" (or favors) in order to get the information he needs have been made.
- Mando making new friends every episode (or at least in Season 2).Explanation The show's frequent use of guest-of-the-week, especially notable in Season 2, where most of the episodes have Mando becoming Fire-Forged Friends with at least one new character.
- "I can help you, but first I need something from you."Explanation Season 2 can essentially be summed as a constant Fetch Quest, as Mando is constantly doing favors for other characters in exchange for something, only to then meet someone else who wants a favor from him in exchange for another thing, and so on. Most egregious when he finally did find a Jedi, Ahsoka, only for her to turn him away and point him to Tython instead.
- Din Cry Laughing after being told to go to another planet.Explanation The summer after Pedro Pascal finished filming The Mandalorian Season 2, he landed two roles in the Zoom-based "play" I, My Ruination, which starred Paul Giamatti as A Streetcar Named Desire director Elia Kazan; one scene has Streetcar writer Tennessee Williams (Pascal) experience an alcohol-induced mood swing, prompting a concerned Elia to exclaim, "Hey!" multiple times, before asking, "What's going on?" After "The Jedi", some Star Wars fans posted the clip with captions referring to it as Din's thoughts after learning he'd have to travel somewhere else to finish his mission.
- The Mandalorian on Omegle by Tiktoker cosplayer tokenasianfriend.
- "Okay, just... just give me one second. I'll be right back."Explanation ”The Mandalorian" meeting a stranger who doesn't like Star Wars or The Mandalorian, prompting Mando to awkwardly excuse himself before somehow appearing in the stranger's house to beat him up.
- "Okay Mando, show me your cock or the kid dies!" "Aw, fu—" Chapter 14: The TragedyExplanation A Boba cosplayer (or more accurately, someone wearing a Boba mask) having a Nerf gun put up to a doll of the Child, demanding to the Mandalorian on the other line to show his... penis or else he'll kill the kid. Going with the common joke about not wanting to be Mistaken for Gay, it's joked that Mando being forced to show his wang to another guy is just as tragic if he showed his face to a living being.
- "You're the guy from Fortnite!"Explanation One of the Omegle people in the same video joking that he recognizes the Mandalorian as a Fortnite character due to him having recently become a sponsored character in the game at the time of the video.
In the Newspaper Comics article on TV Tropes it says “One of the chief reasons comics haven't adapted to the more cynical comedy tastes of the 21st century (or non-English-speaking countries), being seemingly stuck with the tired jokes and premises associated with 50s/60s-era sitcoms lies” and it uses that as the reason why people turned to Webcomics more. I’m curious on what that means specifically.
