"This is the way."— The Children of the Watch
Return to the main Star Wars meme page here.
Please add entries in the following format:
- The meme. ExplanationThe explanation behind the meme.
- Further mutations and successor memes, if any.
- "This is the way."ExplanationA phrase used by the Children of the Watch to acknowledge their commitment to a decision, which has started popping up in replies to posts about the show. It often leads to long reply chains of people repeating it. The phrase even helped kickstart a brief revival of the "Ugandan Knuckles" meme.
- The Mandalorian's "Yeah? Good." from the second trailer became this literally within an hour of the trailer dropping.
- The "fact" that the Mandalorian's name is Will B. Legendary, from Fennec saying that "Your name will be legendary" in one of the trailers. Hilariously in the actual episode where she said it, the line was meant for someone else.
- "Don't you agree?" for its frequent reusage in promotional material. It helped that while every trailer used the sentence, the rest of the line was cut in different ways every time so that what he was being asked to agree to was different.
- "Pedro Pascal IS The Mandalorian."ExplanationThe blunt answer Pedro Pascal gave in this interview to the question, "Is Pedro Pascal the Mandalorian?" His fans like to repeat it in admiration of his performance as Mando.
- Oberyn Martell learned his lesson.ExplanationPedro Pascal first entered the limelight by portraying Oberyn, who met his demise when the Mountain crushed his head until it burst. Pascal and his fans went on to joke that he never removes his Mandalorian helmet in order to avoid a repeat of this incident.
- "I Like Those Odds."ExplanationThe Mandalorian's response to the Stormtroopers informing him he's outnumbered. Solid reaction image.
- The First-Episode Twist has prompted many baby-related jokes, such as "I'm baby", "A BABY!", "THE BABY", "I've only had Baby Yoda for a day and a half, but if anything were to happen to him, I would kill everyone in this room and then myself.", and so on.
- Due to the fact that the Child is a member of Yoda's species, many have joked about him being the son of Yoda and Yaddle. Other jokes revolve around Yoda exiling himself to Dagobah in order to avoid paying child support.
- The fact that before Chapter 13, we had little choice but to refer to him as "Baby Yoda" for convenience's sake due to the species having never been given a name in canon. Often followed by either confusion from those who haven't seen the series yet, pedantically pointing out that he isn't the Yoda, or lamenting how awkward it all is.
- The shot of the Child looking up at the Mandalorian after swallowing a frog has also been meme'd due to how multi-purpose the image is.
- Grogu's "reply" to "Do or do not. There is no try."? "Boomer, OK."ExplanationA Yoda-ized version of the "OK, boomer" meme.
- Grogu drinking soup.Explanation At one point, the Child is given a bowl of bone broth, right before Mando gets in a fight with Cara, only for the fight to stop when they notice the Child followed them and is calmly watching while still drinking the soup. The image has been used for a variety of reaction images.
- Grogu hiding behind a crate.
- Grogu hiding in his pod.
- Basically anything Grogu does.
- Grogu has been mashed up with Frieza, with the Mandalorian being Zarbon, his second-in-command.
- Another is Grogu displaying Fantastic Racism towards Jawas and approving of Mando vaporizing them. His Force Choking of Cara and general stoic demeanor has caused this meme to spiral into portraying him as a new Palpatine in the making.
- Yodito.ExplanationSince Din officially adopted the Child in Episode 8 and is played by Latino actor Pedro Pascal, Latino Star Wars fans decided that the Child was also Latino by adoption and gave him the name "Yodito" to reflect this.
- Choccy milk and chicky nuggies. / I want fruit gummy.ExplanationJudging by the numerous memes revolving around Grogu desiring chocolate milk, chicken nuggets, and fruit gummies, it's safe to assume that they've been declared his memetic Trademark Favorite Food. The source of this association is unclear, but it's probably because those are treats that American children are often stereotyped as loving.
- Using Baby Talk for Grogu-related memes in general is also common practice due to him being, well, a baby.
- Glup ShittoExplanationA deliberately nonsensical nickname for Grogu, derived from a Tumblr post mocking the oftentimes bizarre official names used for Star Wars characters. Exactly how or why the name got attached to Grogu isn't particularly clear, given that "Glup Shitto" originally referred to a hypothetical character rather than one that actually existed, but nevertheless it's a popular means of referring to Grogu among fans, if only because of the inherently amusing nature of the name.
- Gogurt.ExplanationThe most-frequently-used joke misspelling and/or mispronunciation of Grogu. It's also a brand name of tube-packaged yogurt marketed to children. Not to mention Yoghurt being Mel Brooks' Yoda parody in Spaceballs.
- "I have spoken."Explanation Kuiil's Character Catchphrase, which is basically his way of saying "I'm done talking about it, we're doing it my way." "Guns for Hire" reveals it's a catchphrase of all Ughnauts.
- The Jawas' obsession with "the Egg!" ("SOOKA!")
- The Armorer saying that it's Mandalorian tradition to never remove their helmets, prompting many humorous Fridge Logic questions over how they eat, sleep, bathe, have sex, and so on. The following episode clarifies that they never remove their helmets in public, only when alone or with immediate family, with the Mandalorian stating that no one has seen his face since he was a child.
- IG-11 volunteering to self-destruct whenever things start looking rough has been meme'd quite a bit by fans.
- "Be like the Mandalorian."ExplanationBecause of the COVID-19 pandemic, this gets combined with the aforementioned "This is the way" to encourage people to follow Mandalorian practices like social distancing and wearing masks in public.
- I gotta get one of those.ExplanationMando's response to Paz Vizla's flying salute, referring to his jetpack. Used to illustrate something that's not well in reach.
- Wondering what the Mandalorian looks like under his helmet and acknowledging that we already know what Pedro Pascal looks like, yet still acting surprised when he gets unmasked.
- Thanks to Werner Herzog's charming performance, almost every one of the Client's lines has become a meme, such as:
- "Such a large bounty for such a small package."ExplanationHe said this after he gave the Mandalorian his bounty after delivering the Child.
- "How uncharacteristic of one of your reputation. You have taken both commission and payment. Is it not the Code of the Guild that these events are now forgotten?"ExplanationHe said this after the Mandalorian asked what he's going to do with the Child despite it's against Bounty Hunters Guild's No Questions Asked Code. Basically a mouthful version of "It's none of your business."
- "I would like to see the baby."ExplanationHe said this in "The Reckoning", unaware that he's tricked. Becomes go-to quote for fans who only just started watching the show or those who only watch the show to see the Child.
- "Can I offer you a libation to celebrate the closing of our shared narrative?"ExplanationA seemingly Leaning on the Fourth Wall line from "The Reckoning" shortly before The Client is subjected to Back for the Dead at the hands of his superior Moff Gideon.
- I negotiated with them. I negotiated with them all. They’re satisfied, every single one of them. And not just the men, but the women and the children too! They were civilized people, and I treated them like civilized people! I LOVE THEM!"ExplanationUpon landing Tatooine, while Mando and a newbie bounty hunter Toro are trying to cross the desert, they encounter a pair of Tusken Raiders and Mando surprisingly negotiates with them and hands them Toro's binocs. Fans took note that this made him the opposite of Anakin whose first action upon coming across the Raider tribe was to kill them in Attack of the Clones after his mother died.
- "Mandalorian isn't a race." "It's a Creed."ExplanationSaid by Cara and the Mandalorian, respectively, when Greef (whose actor also played Apollo Creed) thought that Mandalorians were a race.
- Some Legends fans circulated images of the Taung (the original Mandalorian species before they opened up their culture to other species) acting surprised.
- "Do the magic hand thing!"ExplanationIn a tight spot in the season 1 finale, Greef attempts to get the Child to use the Force to help out, waving his hand at the kid to demonstrate. The Child misunderstands his meaning and waves back.
- The Scout Troopers casually hitting the Child, with one of them directly punching him in the face, became a meme overnight due to how rapidly it Crosses the Line Twice. A particularly dark joke claims that the trauma from such an attack is the reason the original Yoda talks like that.
- "Why do I hear boss music?"ExplanationJokes that the stormtroopers could hear "Nurse and Protect", the Awesome Music that plays as IG-11 shows up to rescue our heroes in Chapter 8.
- Baby Yoda RadioExplanationA line of edits of "Sanctuary" on YouTube, where the Child starts playing with buttons in the Razor Crest's cockpit, forcing Mando to turn them back off. The clip is overlaid with a music clip to suggest that the Child was playing with the radio.
- Flirty Mando.ExplanationThis season two promo pic gained some notoriety for looking as if Mando wants to flirt with the viewer. Wookieepedia even used it as the main image on his page.
- "My Buddy! (My Buddy!) My Buddy! (My buddy!) Wherever I go, he goes!"ExplanationViewers who noticed Mando's justification for bringing Baby Yoda to an underground fighting ring matched a line from the commercials for the My Buddy doll proceeded to splice it into the jingle — or in extreme cases, use such a combination in a Parody Commercial for Baby Yoda dolls.
- "Why don't we take Mos Pelgo, and PUSH IT SOMEWHERE ELSE!" and "It's an ALASKAN BULLWORM!"ExplanationThe main plot of Chapter 9 is a town being terrorized by a giant sandworm (the Krayt Dragon), prompting comparisons to SpongeBob SquarePants episode "Sandy, SpongeBob, and the Worm".
- The "I have the high ground!" meme from Revenge of the Sith got a minor resurgence after episode 9, this time attributed to the Krayt Dragon after it popped out of the top of a mountain to spray acid at everyone below.
- Corn on the Cobb.ExplanationGenerally, jokes about how Cobb Vanth's name brings to mind corn, because "corn on the cob"
- Saying that Bo-Katan aged gracefully compared to Obi-Wan due to Katee Sackhoff being younger than her character. Obi-Wan aging terribly is jokingly attributed to having to deal with the Skywalkers for the past several years—(or, on a more charitable note, just the physiological pressure of living on Tatooine).
- Jokes about Bo-Katan calling "The Children of the Watch" an extremist cult, when she was in/helped found Death Watch.note A terrorist cult devoted to overthrowing the government of Mandalore and forcing them to go back to their version of the Mandalorian ways.
- Boob armor/Tomboy MandalorianExplanationThere was criticism of Bo-Katan and Koska's chestplates on Twitter for... being molded around their chest, with accusations of being fanservice, which was quickly met with people pointing out this is not only canonically consistent, but is also how female (body) armor works in real life and also applies to male Mandalorian armor. Such critiques would inspire one artist, DeputyRustArt, to create a busty, tomboyish Mandalorian character named Rahab in response.
- The Hidden Crewmember.ExplanationIn Episode 4 of Season 2, "The Siege", there is a shot that shows a crewmember in the background trying to hide during a scene that many eagle-eyed viewers spotted. Many Twitter responses included such comments as "T-shirts, jeans and watches are now canon" and "I can't wait to read this character's full backstory on the Wookiepedia." Know Your Meme christened the crewmember as "Admiral Jeff Blue-Jeans".
- Mando doing sidequests.ExplanationJokes about Din being Railroaded into doing "sidequests" (or favors) in order to get the information he needs have been made.
- Mando making new friends every episode (or at least in Season 2).ExplanationThe show's frequent use of guest-of-the-week, especially notable in Season 2, where most of the episodes have Mando becoming Fire-Forged Friends with at least one new character.
- "I can help you, but first I need something from you."ExplanationSeason 2 can essentially be summed as a constant Fetch Quest, as Mando is constantly doing favors for other characters in exchange for something, only to then meet someone else who wants a favor from him in exchange for another thing, and so on. Most egregious when he finally did find a Jedi, Ahsoka, only for her to turn him away and point him to Tython instead.
- "Yes, I can train Grogu, but first you must go back to Tatooine and pick up some power converters from Tosche Station..."ExplanationA joke about Luke forcing Din to go on yet another sidequest to finish the task Luke didn't get to do in A New Hope.
- Din Cry Laughing after being told to go to another planet.ExplanationThe summer after Pedro Pascal finished filming The Mandalorian Season 2, he landed two roles in the Zoom-based "play" I, My Ruination, which starred Paul Giamatti as A Streetcar Named Desire director Elia Kazan; one scene has Streetcar writer Tennessee Williams (Pascal) experience an alcohol-induced mood swing, prompting a concerned Elia to exclaim, "Hey!" multiple times, before asking, "What's going on?" After "The Jedi", some Star Wars fans posted the clip with captions referring to it as Din's thoughts after learning he'd have to travel somewhere else to finish his mission.
- "We don't like Mandalorians, but we'll give you some milk if you kill the warlord... monster bandit... that's been using our Wi-Fi."ExplanationA line from close personal acquaintance's "Every episode of The Mandalorian," a short spoofing the show's tendency to drift off into sidequests. While the whole video has gone memetic, judging by its multiple re-enactments, this quote in particular succinctly summarizes its plot and tone.
- "Oh, no! Baby Yoda drank all the milk."ExplanationThe last line of the video, spoken by Mando after he learns that his quest became a "Shaggy Dog" Story.
- the manladorian theme songExplanationclose personal acquaintance also produced a Stylistic Suck cover of the Mandalorian theme, with a misspelled title, an off-beat horn, and an ear-piercing recorder. Listeners jokingly call this the most beautiful rendition of the theme.
- Memes comparing The Mandalorian to video games became Hilarious in Hindsight when Pedro Pascal's success in the role earned him the role of Joel in The Last of Us (2023), a TV show based on a video game in which an anti-hero protects a child.
- Ahsoka has beef with Yaddle.ExplanationAhsoka states that she'd only ever known one other of Grogu's species in Yoda, resulting in plenty of jokes about her refusing to acknowledge Yaddle's existence for some reason. Though it actually is perfectly plausible that they never met, as Yaddle only appears in The Phantom Menace, and Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi reveals that Dooku killed her shortly thereafter, while Ahsoka was still very young.
- "Just like Obi-Wan" or joking about Obi-Wan being a proud grandpa, because of Ahsoka's dramatic cape drop when fighting the Magistrate.
- Ahsoka revealing the Child as a former Jedi student on Corusant sparked several Image Macros comically speculating how he survived Anakin's slaughter of the younglings, from the Child skipping class to snack in the cafeteria, to Anakin warning him in advance via text.
- Phony news reports about Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and/or Pedro Pascal suffering serious back injuries from the weight of carrying the entire Star Wars franchise through one show alone.note Given the Contested Sequel Trilogy and the flop of Solo apparently killing the Star Wars Story Spin-Off films after two entries.
- The LEGO Razor Crest set looks accurate to Chapter 14 out of the box.ExplanationChapter 14 reduced the Razor Crest to a pile of ashes; to recreate that in LEGO, one need simply dump all of the bricks onto the ground.
- The recanonization of Jango Fett (and by extension, Boba Fett) being a Mandalorian after all (albeit as a foundling like Din Djarin) has led fans to dunk on Prime Minister Almec for being proven wrong or being outed as an obvious liar.note In his debut episode, Almec claimed that Jango Fett was just a common bounty hunter who happened to steal Mandalorian armor, which irritated many fans for seemingly retconning Jango's heritage as a Mandalorian. (The line was apparently inserted in obedience to George Lucas, who had always insisted that the Fetts were not themselves Mandalorians but only used Mandalorian equipment.) However, Almec also claimed that the warrior Mandalorians were extinct since the last Mandalorian Civil War, which was immediately disproven when Obi-Wan showed footage of a recent Death Watch attack. Later on in the series, it was revealed that Almec was a corrupt politician who's willing to bend the truth to maintain power for himself, making all of his statements to be dubious at best.
- Boba Fett wants to show you something.ExplanationRe-editing a picture or clip of Boba pulling up chain code on his family's Mandalorian heritage, to have him pull up something random instead.
- Summing up the show as a single dad wearing an expensive suit while driving an old car with his newborn son.
- Baby handcuffs.ExplanationGideon has his men cuff Grogu, a baby, with baby-sized handcuffs. There's a logical explanation for this (the Empire would have handcuffs for species of all shapes and sizes, and it's implied the cuffs are specifically made to depower Grogu), but regardless, the sight of a baby in handcuffs is still hilarious.
- Stupid Boba Fett StatementsExplanationAn image macro using scenes taken from Episode 15 with Din standing just in front of Boba. The first frame has Boba saying something very silly or dumb, followed by Din silently turning around to look at him as if in disbelief that he just uttered those words.
- It's such a shame that Mayfeld died in that tragic refinery explosion. He turned out to be a great character.ExplanationAs thanks for helping them break into the Imperial refinery to get the location of Moff Gideon's cruiser, Cara and Din decide to let Mayfeld go free instead of returning him to prison. However, they have to report him dead to the New Republic authorities, and they act like he's dead right in front of him, while it takes him a second to get the hint.
- From the same sequence, Image Macros of Mayfeld blowing away Valin Hess in the Imperial refinery cantina.note Hess, Mayfeld's former CO before he deserted, buys an undercover Din and Mayfeld a drink for making a successful delivery to the refinery despite "pirate" interference. Mayfeld criticizes the Empire for killing a lot of its own soldiers, including comrades of his, during Operation Cinder, Hess goes full nationalist "The Empire will rise again" and dismisses the deaths of aforementioned soldiers, and Mayfeld gives him a rueful grin across the table and then blasts him, forcing him and Din to shoot their way out. In the meme, Hess is subtitled as saying something irrelevant to the actual episode that Mayfeld (i.e. the meme creator) disagrees with.
- "We saw Mando naked!"ExplanationTreating Chapter 15's scenes of an unmasked Mando like a violation of his privacy, especially since he looks very uncomfortable both violating the Creed, and appearing in public with less protection than usual. Pedro Pascal joined in when telling IndieWire about the filming of these scenes, "...it was almost impossible to imagine the level of nakedness and exposure, the overwhelming paralysis."
- "Not me, I closed my eyes out of respect."ExplanationSome viewers claim to find Mando's unmasking scenes such a huge violation of his privacy, that they don't look at his face during the scenes.
- "I didn't expect you to have a mustache!"ExplanationPedro Pascal keeping his scruffy Manly Facial Hair while filming Din's unmasking scenes (even the concept art for "Redemption" retained Pascal's distinctive mustache) led to jokes asking why Din would grow facial hair that no one else can see, including some jokes borrowed from Hemorrhage's Anti-Climactic Unmasking to Summer Smith.
- "Oh no, he's hot!"ExplanationAnother SpongeBob quote, which fans like to imagine Mayfeld thinking when he first saw Din's real face; the year in which The Mandalorian S2 premiered also saw People magazine declare Pedro Pascal one of the sexiest men alive.
- The Mandalorian on Omegle by Tiktoker cosplayer tokenasianfriend.
- "Okay, just... just give me one second. I'll be right back."Explanation”The Mandalorian" meeting a stranger who doesn't like Star Wars or The Mandalorian, prompting Mando to awkwardly excuse himself before somehow appearing in the stranger's house to beat him up.
- "Okay Mando, show me your cock or the kid dies!" "Aw, fu—" Chapter 14: The TragedyExplanationA Boba cosplayer (or more accurately, someone wearing a Boba mask) having a Nerf gun put up to a doll of the Child, demanding to the Mandalorian on the other line to show his... penis or else he'll kill the kid. Going with the common joke about not wanting to be Mistaken for Gay, it's joked that Mando being forced to show his wang to another guy is just as tragic if he showed his face to a living being.
- "You're the guy from Fortnite!"ExplanationOne of the Omegle people in the same video joking that he recognizes the Mandalorian as a Fortnite character due to him having recently become a sponsored character in the game at the time of the video.
- Din was homeschooled.ExplanationThis is used as an excuse for Din not knowing what’s happening in the galaxy/who famous people are (like Boba Fett, one of his travelling companions.)
- Boba Fett sitting on Jabba's throne (with Fennec Shand slouching against the side) in the Spin Off Send Off scene for The Book of Boba Fett has been humorously compared to the cover of a rap album or led to jokes about Shand and Fett releasing their hot new single.
- "He is strong with the Force, but talent without training is nothing." - SHOTS FIRED!note Sequel Trilogy detractors took this as a Take That! at the films for Rey's latent ability and becoming a powerful Jedi in spite of her lack of proper training.
- Axe was in the bathroom.ExplanationAxe being the only member of Bo-Katan's trio to not be recruited onto the Season 2 finale team due to his unstated absence. This prompted jokes that he was in the restroom while Din and Boba met with Bo-Katan and Koska, and came back to the bar with everyone gone. (Katee Sackhoff later revealed that Axe originally died in Chapter 11, and that by the time he was Spared by the Cut, they didn't have time to add a new explanation for his absence.)
- "I am a Jedi, like my father before me."ExplanationLuke Skywalker mowing down the Dark Troopers through the hallways like nothing is very reminiscent of how his father, Darth Vader, massacred an entire platoon of Rebels through a narrow hallway in Rogue One. Naturally, fans joke that Luke had inherited his father's dramatic flair or that Skywalker + Hallway = Very bad for Mooks. Interestingly, even in Legends this was the case — The Thrawn Trilogy demonstrates that Skywalker + Hallway (of which one wall happens to be an external bulkhead) = Very Bad Day for Mooks.
- Bo-Katan is racist.ExplanationFans, especially new fans, have begun to notice Bo-Katan has a nasty habit of claiming other Mandalorians aren't True Mandalorians. This reared its head in Episode 16, when she went on a particularly nasty spiel to Boba Fett for being a clone. (And made worse since he's portrayed by Temuera Morrison, a nonwhite man, specifically Māori.)
- "Don't come to class tomorrow."ExplanationWith the revelation that Luke took Grogu in, it leaves disturbing implications of what happens when Kylo Ren destroys Luke's New Order in the buildup to the Sequel Trilogy. This meme is a defiance of that trope, showing that Ben Solo befriends Grogu and warns him not to come the day before the attack (while also ignoring that it happened at night, on a whim, after a poorly-interpreted situation). The meme also sometimes refers to Anakin warning Grogu not to come to the Jedi Temple before murdering the younglings during Order 66.
- Grogu bullies Ben.ExplanationAlternatively to the above, instead of being nice to him, Grogu bullies Ben, leading to his rampage.
- "It's strangely like a bedroom voice?"ExplanationThe reason Pedro Pascal gave on Stir Crazy for hesitating to speak to children in the Mandalorian's voice; fans either remark that it explains how Mando wins over viewers without showing his face, or try to imagine Pascal talking like Mando while having sex with someone else.
- Boba after he gets his armor back.ExplanationA meet-and-greet Boba Fett at Disney's Star Wars Weekends event dancing synced to Boney M's "Rasputin" is a popular Star Wars meme video, and Boba's glorious return in Chapter 14 quickly prompted jokes about this video happening after he gets his armor back and/or he's finally confirmed as a Mandalorian.
- Mand'alor the ReluctantexplanationSuggesting that Din, having taken the Darksaber from Gideon, will be forced to become Mand'alor, despite very much not wanting to.
- Cara Dune died on the way to her home planet.ExplanationAfter Gina Carano was fired, plenty of jokes were made that Cara would be off-handedly killed off like Poochie from The Simpsons, given an extra edge by how her home planet is the long-destroyed Alderaan. The official explanation from season 3 is that she was invited to rejoin the New Republic's special forces.
- RIP Daft Punk.ExplanationAfter the faceless band Daft Punk announced their breakup in February 2021, some of the Tweets mourning them used a picture of Din and Boba in lieu of the actual members.
- Din is a himbo. "all din knows is fly ship, shoot gun, and love son. that’s it."ExplanationA joking explanation for Din's apparent ignorance of major events & people in the Star Wars universe, as well as his tendency to try to solve problems by physically throwing himself at them.
- "They have the kid."ExplanationWhile Din gathered assistance for his rescue of Grogu from Gideon at the end of Season 2, fans started treating different versions of this phrase as Din's chant to make people put their own business on hold in favor of helping him out.
- Proving when Pedro Pascal wears the armor.ExplanationComparing screenshots or gifs of Din to pictures or clips of Pedro Pascal making the same pose or motion elsewhere; this example the actor shared compared an Entertainment Weekly photo of Din to screencaps of Pascal's characters from Kingsman: The Golden Circle and Narcos.
- Pedro Pascal attending Star Wars Celebration in his pajamas.ExplanationA light-hearted jab at the actor's attire for the 2022 Celebration.
- He was 8 years old. Explanation During the Season 3 trailer Bo-Katan seemingly asks Din where he was during The Clone Wars, even though it’s been established he was a young child during that era, something people (especially on Tumblr) have pointed out.
- "Somehow Grogu Returned" ExplanationEchoing the line turned meme from The Rise of Skywalker. Explaining that to anyone who skipped The Book of Boba Fett, Grogu's return for season 3 (and its promotional materials) comes out of nowhere. Also pointing out the absurdity of the show's emotional core being resolved in a different show. Much how the return of Palpatine in Rise of Skywalker was first brought up in Fortnite.
- Scientists predict that by 2050 every popular show may involve Pedro Pascal escorting a magic child to safety.ExplanationSeason 3 premiered during the same year as The Last of Us (2023), 11 days before the latter's first season finale. Their similarities in premise and casting inspired this article from The Chaser.
- Grievous was in the show! Explanation (Chapter 18 spoilers)In Chapter 18, Din is captured by a four-armed cyborg creature while in the caves of Mandalore. Due to their similarities, people started to draw comparisons to General Grievous, such as this dub.
- The Best.ExplanationAhmed Best's involvement in the series in "Chapter 20" as Kelleran Beq, the Jedi who saved Grogu during Order 66, has led to a Hurricane of Puns about how great his character is.
- I dun wan it.Explanation (Chapter 22 spoilers)Once Din successfully passed the Darksaber onto Bo-Katan, after failing on two separate shows to wield it properly, viewers re-attributed this Jon Snow quote to Din, who indeed didn't want the Darksaber in the first place.
- Yes. Yes. Yes. Explanation (Chapter 23 spoilers)Grogu acquires a mech-suit created from the remains of IG-11, with two buttons on the console able to make IG speak "Yes" and "No". Like the toddler that he is, Grogu immediately starts mashing the buttons to make IG say "Yes" and "No" over and over again, which many viewers found funny. And much like "This is the way," it easily lent itself to viewers repeating the comment over and over again in lengthy reply chains.
- Many fans have taken to dubbing IG's voice with that of other Star Wars characters including Darth Vader, General Grievous, Darth Maul, Yoda and others.
- Barbie is everything. He's just Ken.ExplanationReference to how the show started focusing more on Bo-Katan than Din, using taglines from the 2023 Barbie movie.
- The Talking Stick ExplanationChapter 21 show the Covert using the Armorer's hammer as a talking stick while debating whether to come to Navarro's rescue. Fans began playfully arguing over if the hammer held more authority than even the Darksaber.
- The Armorer is the Spy!ExplanationThe title of Chapter 23 being "The Spies" prompted a flurry of speculation as to who could possibly be a traitor among the Mandalorians. The Armorer was the most common choice due to her mysterious identity and agenda and seemingly being conveniently away when Gideon's forces attacked. Ultimately, the finale revealed... there was no traitor and it's not clear who the title referred to.
- We are the 2%.ExplanationKatee Sackhoff gave an interview in which she noted that the majority of the fan base enjoyed her playing Bo-Katan in Season 3, a minority hated her character, "and 2% want me to sit on their face." Cue interviewer asking if it's only just 2% and horny fans confirming it is far more (at least among those who are vocal on the Internet)
- Come to the Dark Side. We have cookies.ExplanationThis already-established meme got new life when Imperial spy Elia Kane manipulated Dr. Pershing with actual cookies from Imperial ration packs.
- Valley Girl Mando.ExplanationA Saturday Night Live sketch in which Pedro Pascal unexpectedly awakens from a coma with a Los Angeles-inspired dialect inspired some fans, including Seth Meyers, to imagine the Vocal Dissonance of Mando speaking with that same dialect.
"I have spoken."
