Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:

openLinks to Potentially Harmful Sites
I'm not sure if this is the proper place to post this, but I'm not sure where to do so. Every now and then I come across quotes in certain tropes that, while they technically might fit (some being at best corner cases), they are from very obscure fringe internet sources, often extremely religious in nature.
For example, the Cheerleader's Are Evil trope has only one quote in it's quote page which comes from a conservative preacher's typed sermon, with a link to the website which the sermon was posted (which looks like it's from Y2K). The Ethical Slut quote page on the other hand has several quotes, but a lot of them are from similar source's and sites, with most the quotes being only tangentially related to the trope in question. The worst offender I have noticed in recent days is a quote on Attention Whore that (while technically could fit the trope) links to a site where the writer of said quote peddles their religious conspiracy theories about the Illuminati.
I honestly haven't contributed much to the site and I don't want to step on any toes in case of rules I am unaware of. Should something be done in cases like this?
Edited by TheElcorSpectreopenTwo Franchise/ pages for the same franchise
I discovered Franchise.Phile Verse and Franchise. The Xfiles for the same franchise, so I wish to merge the two to make one more complete page
I'll do all the work, is there a preference for which one becomes the franchise page and which one will be redirected to the other?
Edited by jormis29openTroper keeps changing images without discussion
~lexii has a history of image changes without starting threads in Image Pickin.
- This edit for The Crown (2016), ignoring a linked IP thread that reverted that specific image (I sent them a notifier for this one)
- This thread for Femme Fatalons
- This thread for Regal Ringlets
- This thread for The Beautiful Elite
resolved Opening a TRS thread
I started a TRS thread the other day, and I checked the wicks to find evidence of misuse, but it's still not open despite the subforum not being at the thread cap. What else should I do?
openWorks by country
The indexes for things from a given country are "[Nationality] media", for example, American Media. In those indexes we dump everything: actors, films, TV series, musicians, books, writers, etc. But at some point a subsection is so big that it gets an index of its own, for example American Actors and American Music (Italian Media, a random example, has less music examples, so they remain in the Italian Media index).
New indexes are proposed at the TLP, but before doing so, which would be the turning point when an index subsection like those may be proposed as a standalone index? 100 entries? 500? 1000? Other criteria?
openSlowly Slipping into Evil
This example was under the real life section of Slowly Slipping Into Evil:
- The subject of this journal article made friends with a drug dealer, then started to help him run his gang, then shot a man in self-defense... By the end of his criminal career, he had killed fifteen people and was prepared to commit murder merely to "safeguard his reputation".
The article is legitimately fascinating, but I feel like this should be an obvious No Real Life Examples, Please!? Shouldn't it?
Edited by jjjj2openSplitting the Characters Page for Pacific Rim
With the release of "Pacific Rim: The Black", the characters page that consists of all Pacific Rim characters (humans, Jaegers, and Kaiju) has become too long. Should the page be split and give each film/anime (original film, Uprising, The Black) its respective character page instead of one giant one?
I'll do the work, of course, but I just wanna get the ok before it's actually done.
Edited by Henshin4LifeopenDoes SpongeBob need a cleanup? Western Animation
I mentioned this in the discussion tab of YMMV.Sponge Bob Square Pants to no response, but does anyone think the show's pages could use some cleanup? As noted in the Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining, a lot of SB pages tend to attract complaining about Seasonal Rot and certain infamous episodes, plus references to certain Caustic Critics and potentially out-of-date entries from before Hillenburg's return and before his untimely death. I feel there should be an effort to go over the series' pages and remove the more complain-y posts.
openDoes the Transformers Fanfic Recs page need to get split up?
Just noticed that the "General" section alone on the Transformers fanfic recs page feels impossibly long. I'm wondering if we shouldn't split it up and make it into multiple pages based on either fanfic category, or on individual entries in the franchise.
openlink to fanfic parent IP in trope example entries?
I've been seeing several fanwork entries submitted to a TLP thread recently, all of a form similar to:
- In the Star Trek: Enterprise fanfic Janus [1], when Hoshi is turned into two Hoshis due to a Teleporter Accident, one of them faints in shock after seeing her double. Justified since the accident left them both in bad condition, and the one who passed out is physically unhealthier than the one who stayed awake.
- Is it typical to link to the "Inspiration" work page (Series.Star Trek Enterprise) in such an entry?
- Should it be italicized like a work entry?
- Should it just be an italicized title without Wiki Word linking?
Note: There is no current work page for the fic, so the external URL for that part makes sense to me.
openDebating about which name is original Live Action TV
So in Kamen Rider Saber character page about a new rider (Which I can't talk about her identify because it's a spoiler) named Kamen Rider Sabela or Szabla, some of them including Kamen Rider Wiki called her Sabela while other half the troper who edit Kamen Rider Sabela/Szabla character file call her Szabla because they have a same meaning. So I want you guys to decide which one is the original and what to do with it.
openImages
This is not really a Trope-related discussion, but I want to know how exactly to post images in TV tropes. I am working on a pantheon thing, but this is all I've got:
As you can see, the image does not appear, and it gives you a 404.
Edited by troperbbopenHow best to split the page?
The Pacific Rim character page has reached its size limit and needs to be split. Would it be better to divide the page by faction (Humans, Jaegers, Kaiju) or by the medium they debuted in (although several of the tie-in comics don't have their own pages but have characters who are on the current characters page)?
openRestoring Cut Page
The page for the American preschool animated series Powerbirds was recently cut for being created by a ban evader. While I understand the concerns regarding ban evader edits, I can tell you as someone who did a decent amount of editing for said page after it was created that there was absolutely nothing harmful on the page (no false info, not a stub with 0 tropes, etc.). Also as a result, several red links have been created by its cutting.
I put some minor discussion about it on the ban-evader reversion thread in the long-term projects forum here, and was told the best solution might be to ask a mod to restore the page (especially since I have no archived versions of the page at hand). So... can I just request for a mod to restore the page, or something...? I have literally zero experience with a situation like this, and really want the work page restored, so I'm feeling half-stumped, half-desperate at the moment.
openPremature edits on Cuties Film
Technomancer02 deleted comments on Cuties asking for people to not to add certain tropes until March 9 and added a section on Overshadowed by Controversy. It's merely a few days early, but I don't think this is the first time he's had issues with that trope.
Edited by thokopenOn Thread-Approval Required Entries Videogame
Is it allowed to edit entries which need to be approved by a thread to fix typos or add wicks, or do proposals to edit such entries need to fly by the thread as well?
resolved Restoring The Sekimeiya: Spun Glass page Videogame
The Sekimeiya: Spun Glass had its page cut because it had one trope (which had zero context). I have more tropes to put there, and I was wondering if I could restore it.
openrestoring the AssPull.WorldOfWarcraft page, or at least its entries? Videogame
So, the page was deleted, with the reason given that it was "Too short to qualify".
Is there a way to restore the page or, if that is impossible, to restore its entries so that they can be moved to the Video Games page?
Is it possible to create my own Troper page like Troper/Synchronicity have?
