I mean.

I actually sorta like to think Frieza remembers basically a lot of the day he destroyed Planet Vegeta, which includes Bardock as part of that memory.

Like, especially your Frieza, given that he knows enough about Super Saiyans to know they have golden hair. Which I can only assume means Episode of Bardock is canon to your fic, because otherwise that makes literally no fucking sense.

Blowing up the planet where great-grandpa Chilled died, and the race that killed him would at least be something to brag at Cooler about.

Yeah, sure, he remembers killing Planet Vegeta. He likes to relax with a glass of wine and think fondly of that particular genocide. But not Bardock because, well, he just happened to be the first burning monkey.

We're getting down to the wire now.

Fun fact: Originally Goku saw Gine and Bardock when she was unconscious but Zel made me realize that A) This was way too similar to the Vegeta scene and B) It was logistically impossible. So he came up with the "Life flashing before her eyes" idea.

Another fun fact: We had temporarily considered killing off Suno in Piccolo's place buuut we wound up deciding against it.

And yes, purple magma does occur in nature.

A fusion fic of Dragon Ball and RWBY could be fun. Put the Grimm in Dragon Ball to make it more of a death world than it already was, add in some aura, maybe make Launch's condition a really weird semblance.

Power is everything, and like Luck, it was fickle.

Whoo! Words every villain should learn huh?

Yeah, I liked this one too.

When you think about it, there's a lot to be mined out of Cell's thoughts. What is it like to be born, knowing you'r incomplete, that you are missing parts of yourself (ignoring that said parts are their own separate beings) and being instilled with an insatiable urge to find those pieces and take them back no matter what the cost?

How much of Cell is himself, the genes of the different people that compose his beings driving him, and whatever programming Gero instilled in him? Where does he end and all that other stuff begin?

It's possible that the Cell Games are the only time in his short life that he's acting on his own desires (twisted though they may be).

100% of Cell is Cell.

Just because he's composed of a bunch of different things doesn't mean that it isn't who he is.

Random thought:

Whenever someone tries to posit a what if Goku never came to Earth or etc, etc, idea, it always comes down to Raditz arrives and fucks shit up

Well, what if Frieza and his family never came to power....at all. What if he just wasn't ever born.

I mean, that's a big part of why the universe is the way it is now. Because he was going around rofl stomping anyone who might have been a challenge to him.

Without Frieza, the Saiyans likely never leave Planet Plant VEGETA, which means they never get wiped out, which means not only no Raditz on Earth, but no Goku.

So now I wonder how the story works out without not only Goku, but the inevitable spectre of Raditz.

Someone suggested Gohan Sr. travelling with Bulma, which ensures she doesn't get killed. He likely opts to train Yamcha as well as a result.

I'm quite curious to brainstorm how things go, especially since King Piccolo is still a surefire thing.

Pretty much.

So how does Dragonball work without Frieza rocking the boat.

Well, I guess Buu is still a thing, but I'd expect the Supreme Kai to deal with him somehow (though he'd have to find a way to handle Dabura).

I mean, considering Gine is a thing, Goku would probably have mostly the same personality, just with a few more obvious Saiyan traits; which granted, he already has in the love for fighting and food.

Here are my plans for the main villain of the fanfiction that I'm writing

Name: Shoko (real name) / The Venatrix (her alias)

Age: The story will be set 1 year before Battle of Gods (778). Since she has the same age as Goku, that would make her 40.

Personality: I've noticed that most of the DB villains were underdevelopped. And let's not get started with most fanfictions. I've decided to go with a complex villain, with several facets of her personality...well, I want to make a genuinely human character. My plans for her personality aren't complete, however.

Shoko has a sort of messiah complex, which was developped because of her backstory (that I'll explain later). This side of her shaped a lot of her personality: she has become a much more independant, determined, charismatic and audacious person over time. Generally calm and ruthless, she has no qualms against committing terrible actions if it means protecting humanity.

Due to her personal backstory, she also has an irrational hatred towards superhuman beings. She blames them for her emotional pain, and her anger make her unable to differenciate bad aliens from good ones, assuming that all of them are potential threats. To her, all of them are inherently evil beings that need to be destroyed. At the same time, Shoko feels pretty guilty. She's killing sentient beings after all, no matter how bad they are, but she feels compelled in doing that.

Despite her villainy, she remained a genuinely nice person and polite person. Most notably, Shoko is considered as a good boss by her underlings. She also has principles that she will always respect.

Last, but not least, Shoko has a fighting instinct, which is a trait mostly showcased as a young girl, considering that she trained to become a martial artist, despite the fact that her father disapproved. But she kept this trait, which is one of the reasons why she became an opponent to the aliens. Shoko notably respect Goku's fighting skills.

Abilities: Shoko doesn't have any powers. However, she will make up for it in several ways.

  • Shoko is a very competent planner, manipulating events with a lot of skills, always have a backup plan, and can improvise. As I plan to have her as the mole, she will also be able to know the Z-Fighters emotional weaknesses, in order to manipualte them, therefore kill them much more efficiently.
  • Her charisma will allow her to recruit some people who will help them to try and take down the Z-Fighters.
  • In terms of combat, Shoko created gadgets, weapons etc. specifically designed to counter the Ki-users. For example, she will be able to track them, negate their blasts and downright prevent them to use their ki. And of course, due to her training, Shoko is a very skilled martial artist. This will make her a force to be reckoned with.

Weaknesses: with all of her qualities, Shoko still has weaknesses. For starters, no matter how hard she trains, she can't hope to reach the level of the Z-Fighters, who have a much higher potential. As such, she has to rely on her gadgets or tricks to be even able to fight them. And even then, 18 is a cyborg, which means that she is a human with mechanical enhancements. As such, she doesn't rely on Ki as much as the others. Any direct fight against her will result in a curb-stomp battle. Furthermore, while her equipment is effective against the Z-Fighters, she's still vulnerable to entirely mundane dangers. Outside of fighting, Shoko has a few moral lines that she will not cross. For example, she will have a relationship with a member of the team during her time as the mole, which makes simply killing him a difficult decision to take, and she might instead try to have him join her cause.

Goals: Shoko's goal is to protect the Earth. Too bad that she wants to do it by murdering all aliens unfortunate enough to come to Earth, good or not.

Motivation: Shoko's messiah complex and irrational hatred of aliens, both born because of some of the events in the manga, are what made her a villain.

Role in the story: Shoko is the Big Bad of the story, although it's likely to be temporary.

Backstory: When she was a kid, Shoko was Blood Knight, training to become a martial artist. Shoko father's, who thought or her as a fragile girl (yeah, steoreotypes are BS), of course didn't approve. But it only nourished Shoko's desire, as she want to prove to him that she's not as weak as he thought simply because she's a girl. Watching her family fight Cell and die horribly traumatized her for sure, but it didn't diminished her regards towards fighting. On the contrary, after watching Cell's announcement to the world, she realized how important power was: it allows the strong to oppress the weak. This is exactly what happened that day: Shoko's family died under her watch, and she couldn't do anything to stop it, simply because the monster was much more powerful.

This is also when she remembered her own strength: her intelligent mind, which allowed her to succeed in achieving a lot of things in her life, including creating machines that match Bulma's. This, along with her fighter side, led her to place the responsibility of struggling against these monsters on herself.

That is when she developped her messiah complex, and, therefore, became a villain. As a martial artist, she thouroughly studied Ki, as well as it's limitations, allowing her to create the machines. Thanks to her charisma, she succeeded in recruiting the rare people who don't believe that Mister Satan is the hero who killed Cell and Boo.

Relevant Tropes: I have some of them on top of my head, but not all, because otherwise, the post will be longer than it already is.

  • Action Girl: Due to being an experienced martial artist who build an arsenal able to counter the Ki-Users, she can kick a lot of asses.
  • Affably Evil: Her villainy aside, Shoko is a nice person.
  • Anti-Villain: of the Well-Intentioned Extremist type.
  • Ax-Crazy: Downplayed. Due to being affably evil, as well as calm and collected most of the time, Shoko is more subtle about it than most examples. That said, someone who think that murder is the only solution to aliens isn't exactly the poster girl for sanity.
  • Badass: You are one if you can give the Z-Fighters a run for their money
  • Benevolent Boss: Contrary to most of Dbvillains, Shoko is in very good terms with her minions.
  • Berserk Button: When she will learn about Boo's rampage (the Z-Fighters erased the Earthlings memory about it), and that Majin Boo is still freely walking around on Earth, let's just say that it didn't pleased her.
  • Big Bad: the leader of her team and the most dangerous threat to the Z-Fighters in the story.
  • Big Bad Friend: Indeed.
  • Blood Knight: Although it's less noticeable than when she was a young girl due to being much more mature than before, Shoko retained her passion for martial arts. She even admires the Z-Fighters fighting skills, which is quite an achievement, considering how much she hates the aliens.
  • Catchphrase: "Never let the aliens triumph again".
  • The Corrupter: Convinced other people to help her to take down aliens, which is how she formed her team.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Shoko has a pretty dry humor, which is most noticeable when she lampshade the Z-Fighters antics.
  • Determinator: Downplayed. She rarely gives up, but knows when to fold 'em.
  • The Dreaded: Killing several aliens who simply wanted to visit the Z-Fighters will have that effect on several races. It gets so bad that King Kai actually calls Goku to warn him about it.
  • Driven to Villainy: The Earth's catastrophic events, as well as the murder of her family, twice, with the second time being permanent, led her to become a villain.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Shoko is genuinely disgusted by the past actions of the Red Ribbons Army.
  • Evil Virtues: Pretty much all of them.
  • Family-Values Villain: It's quite telling when you call you consider your team as a "Brotherhood". Considering that she lost her own family under her watch, this isn't surprising.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: In spades. She has gone from a simple victim of the manga's events to someone who can hunt down aliens and murder them on a regular basis.
  • Genre Savvy: More so than most of DB villains, which is one of the reasons she's dangerous.
  • Hero Killer: Considering that the Z-Fighters include aliens (such as Goku himself), she will actively tries to kill them as The Venatrix. And she will probably succeed in killing some of them.
  • Hidden Agenda Villain: Her goal will be revealed mid-way to late in the fanfiction.
  • Hypocrite: Shoko considers all aliens to be evil because they oppressed the weaker, powerless humans. Yet, she does exactly the same thing to the unfortunate aliens who came to Earth with an equipment allowing her to nullify their powers. Contrary to most examples, however, Shoko is aware that her own actions are horrible, even feeling some guilt about them, but she justifies them as necessary evil.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Things tend to get darker and more dramatic when she appears.
  • Large Ham: Despite being calm and collected most of the time, Shoko will chew the scenary a few times, especially in her speeches as The Venatrix.
  • Magnificent Bitch: I'm shaping her up to be this.
  • Meaningful Name: Theme Naming aside, Shoko is also named after Asahara Shoko, the head of a former terrorist organization. It's one of the first hints that she's a Knight Templar.
  • Names to Run Away From: The Venatrix = The Huntress in english. Needless to say that she more than lives up to her alias.
  • Necessary Evil: Shoko thinks that her actions are bad, but necessary for humanity's good.
  • Noble Demon: Shoko actually established in her team a code of honor that they should never break. For example, killing anyone other than the aliens is forbidden.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: A requirement, considering that she's the mole.
  • Pet the Dog: See Benevolent Boss
  • Punny Name: Her name is based on "Shokora", which means "Chocolate" in japanese.
  • She Who Fights Monsters: Despite her goal, she ends up being not so different from the aliens she considers evil: she murder and oppress the aliens just like Cell did with the humans. The Z-Fighters will lampshade it.
  • The Stoic: Shoko is a calm and collected person...
  • Tragic Bigot: Her entire villainy is this.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Considering what happened to her, it's a bit difficult to not feel some sympathy for her.
  • Worthy Opponent: She thinks the Z-Fighters are this, especially Goku. For some of them, the feeling is mutual.

And that is all for my villain.
