Hello there, Pitty Pat. I'm Sumireko Usami, although I usually go by one of the nicknames listed above. Perhaps obviously, I am not actually Sumireko Usami from Touhou Project (although I am quite fond of her).
When I'm not trying to make my Troper Page look somewhat presentable, you can find me on MyAnimeList (where I often shill JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and R.O.D The TV]), Sporcle (where I usually make anime/manga-themed quizzes) or Honeyfeed (where you can read my slice-of-life isekai webnovel).
My Favorite Tropes
This is by no means a complete list. More tropes will be added as I think of them.
- Atomic F-Bomb/Cluster F-Bomb/Precision F-Strike: What the fuck can I say? I just think that swearing like a fucking sailor is fucking hilarious! You got a fucking problem with that?
- Anti-Hero
- Arc Number/Arc Words: I'm especially fond of their uses in Homestuck and Doctor Who, respectively.
- Batman Grabs a Gun
- Breaking the Fourth Wall/No Fourth Wall: As well as pretty much all variants and sub-tropes.
- Bunny-Ears Lawyer
- Cloudcuckoolander/Cuckoosnarker
- Deconstructed Character Archetype
- Demonic Possession
- Doesn't Like Guns
- Double Entendre: I like my entendre how I like my partners - sexual. (That was a joke, please laugh.)
- Evil Plan: Simple but effective. Quite possibly the best trope in all of fiction.
- Face-Heel Turn/Face-Monster Turn
- Fourth-Wall Observer/Medium Awareness
- Genre Deconstruction: Although this can sometimes be iffy if I already really like, or really dislike, the original genre.
- Genre Savvy
- Heel-Face Turn/Heel-Face Brainwashing: Although I've rarely ever seen examples of the latter.
- Invincible Villain
- Literal-Minded
- Mary Sue/Marty Stu: But only if it's being deconstructed, averted, parodied or (on occasion) lampshaded.
- The Nth Doctor: Especially the trope-namer, but Steven Universe is great too.
- Paper Master: Especially the trope-namer.
- Pun
- Purely Aesthetic Gender
- Straight Man
- The Bad Guy Wins
- Time Travel: As well as pretty much all related tropes.
- Villain Protagonist
- Villains Acts, Heroes React
- Villain Song: Is it just me, or is the Villain Song always the biggest slapper in any musical work that features it?
- Villain Sue
- Well-Intentioned Extremist
- Word of God: I love creators who respond to and interact with their fans, so this is a given.
- Wrong Genre Savvy
My Least Favorite Tropes
This is by no means a complete list. More tropes will be added as I think of them.
- Ass Pull: Although I'm more forgiving if a work is self-aware about its inclusion.
- Deus Angst Machina: Unless it's justified (although this is becoming increasingly rare), played for laughs, parodied or (on occasion) invoked.
- Deus ex Machina: There are some series that can use this trope in a satisfying way, but those are few and far between.
- Fanservice: With the possible exception of comedic fanservice, although this largely depends on if I actually find the specific instance funny.
- Mary Sue/Marty Stu: And most other variants, such as Sympathetic Sue or Jerk Sue.
- Men Act, Women Are
- Men Are Strong, Women Are Pretty
- Murder Into Malevolence: Unless the narrative provides a good reason for it. Ironically, I tend to feature this trope a lot in my own personal writings.
- New Media Are Evil: At face-value, this trope really gets on my nerves. However, when writers go all-out and play up the insanity of the trope (like in this movie, for example), then I will almost always enjoy it.
- Porn with Plot
- Porn Without Plot
- Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: Don't get me wrong, rape is unambiguously a horrible thing to do, but I find it somewhat annoying how fiction tends to portray it (or any other crime for that matter) as being the definitively "worst" crime.
- Rouge Angles of Satin: un-less its been parody'd of lamp shaded, in witch case it can bee rather humerus
