  • In Angel Sanctuary, there are seven Satans of Hell, all of which represent the sins:
    • Pride: Belial (An androgynous, genderless demon who claims to love Lucifer more than anyone.)
    • Wrath: Barbelo (Lucifer's first wife who enjoys wreaking havoc with her pet dragons.)
    • Envy: Leviathan (A sea serpent-like demon.)
    • Sloth: Astaroth and Astarte (Twins who inhabit the same body.)
    • Lust: Asmodeus (A lecher who is in love with Belial.)
    • Greed: Mammon (A demon with a raven head who covets gold and fine jewelry.)
    • Gluttony: Beelzebub (A large insect-like demon known as "the lord of the flies.")
  • Bang Brave Bang Bravern!: The eight named Deathdrives are based on the "eight evil thoughts" mentioned in the description, combined with the Death Seeker. Not only are their personalities based on each of the thoughts, they each have a death wish related to it, and will simply rebuild themselves from their towers if their wish isn't fulfilled.
    • Greed: Cupiridas. His wish is to die in the biggest explosion possible, and refuses to take anything less.
    • Sadness: Pessimism. Constantly morose, his wish is ironically to die without feeling sad.
    • Vainglory: Vanitas. A self-absorbed personality, his wish is to die a flashy death.
    • Lust: Knuth. She has a Single-Target Sexuality fixed on Lewis Smith, and her wish is to die with him "making love" to her (read: up close and personal, filled with passion).
    • Gluttony: Paupertipum. Concerned only with feeding, his wish is to eat himself to death.
    • Acedia: Segnities. His wish is to die in an awesome battle without having to do any of the work.
    • Pride: Superbia. A proud warrior, his wish is to die battling a Worthy Opponent.
    • Anger: Ira. Driven by impulsive violence, his wish is to die in a fit of rage.
  • In Berserk, this is Griffith's character in a nutshell, as part of his satanic qualities.
    • Pride: Griffith cares only about himself and himself alone. This is best showcased with his speech with the princess Charlotte, in which says that his men are so far beneath him.
    • Greed: He cares only to get as much power as he can and him alone, and betrays his followers so he can get a second shot at gaining a kingdom.
    • Wrath: He betrays all his men to the Godhand in a fit of rage after finding out that they can move on without him, and also rapes Casca in that same fit of rage.
    • Lust: As Guts points out, Griffith won't stop at just gaining a country; he is addicted to performing all these heroic acts because it glorifies his ego and will always want more.
    • Sloth: He has his men do most of his dirty work.
    • Gluttony: As Guts points out, Griffith won't stop at just getting a country; he will always crave higher goals to feed his ever-growing ego, which was probably why he cracked open the astral plane and fused it with the physical world, turning an already Crapsack World into a literal Hell on Earth, so that his rule that is Falconia will ultimately consume the whole world, making him the sole ruler.
    • Envy: He has displayed intensely jealous behavior towards Guts and Casca, and rapes the latter to spite the former for having dared leave the Band of the Hawks upon becoming Femto.
  • Bleach had a series of chapters named after the Sins, each seemingly referring to the characters and their actions (sorta, it's a bit vague).
    • 341 — The Envy: Clingy Jealous Girl team Lolly and Menoly.
    • 342 — The Greed: Ichigo shuts down Orihime from getting involved in his fight.
    • 343 — The Gluttony: Starts with Yammy stuffing his face, then has him kill Lolly and Menolly for the lulz.
    • 344 — The Pride: The Pride was twofold, both Yammy's fall (Pride goeth before) and the Pride Ichigo expressed. That more foreshadowing in that instance, as he felt he stood a chance against Ulquiorra.
    • 345 — The Sloth: Rudobon creates clones that fight for him while he watches safely from afar.
    • 346 — The Wrath: Ulquiorra's Tranquil Fury as he thrashes Ichigo.
    • 347–352 — The Lust 1–6: The emergence of new forms for both Ulquiorra and Ichigo, who both take uncharacteristic actions in regards to Orihime.
    • Also some Espada are related to the Seven Sins somehow:
      • Baraggan: Pride. His Zanpakuto is called Arrogante and he considers himself a god.
      • Yammy: Wrath. His Zanpakuto is Ira, he's extremely violent and easily angered.
      • Aaroniero: Gluttony / Greed. His Zanpakuto is Glotoneria, and his aspect of death is Greed. He eats people to gain their powers and constantly wants more.
      • Coyote Starrk: Sloth. While he's very powerful, he prefers to sleep and loaf around, and it takes a lot to motivate him to fight seriously.
      • Szayel: Lust. His Zanpakuto is Fornicaras ("You will fornicate" in Spanish), he's Ambiguously Gay and a lot of his actions invoke Does This Remind You of Anything?, including swallowing his sword and seeming to suffer The Immodest Orgasm during his transformation.
      • Nnoitra: Envy. He wants to be the strongest warrior and cannot stand anybody who can overpower him.
      • Ulquiorra: Despair. Fits the sometimes-counted 8th sin by his nature as a Straw Nihilist and attempts to act as a Hope Crusher toward the protagonists.
      • It should also be noted that, on top of the sins they embody primarily, Starrk and Nnoitra both also embody Despair to some extent. Starrk fell into Despair after being forced to wander alone for unknown amounts of time due to his immense power causing him to have an "Instant Death" Radius effect on weaker Hollows, and his only reason for joining Aizen was because the forces he gathered were actually strong enough to survive being around him. Nnoitra's Envy stems from Despair, having already crossed the Despair Event Horizon and come to the belief that power is the only thing worth living for, he envies anyone more powerful than him, and his only real stated goal is to either become the most powerful by killing everyone stronger than him, or die trying.
    • Liltotto Lamperd has the title "Sternritter G - The Glutton". Not only does she seem to be perpetually hungry, she can extend her mouth to eat people alive.
  • In Castle Town Dandelion, Misaki's Royalty Superpower allows Literal Split Personality along the lines of the seven sins. Unlike most examples here, her clone for Lust is an actual embodiment of that sin; that clone makes sexual comments all the time, and in one memorable incident, asked Misaki's twin brother to comfort her sexually.
  • In A Certain Magical Index, the Russian Orthodox Church has a spell that robs people of 1/7th of their strength for each sin they are guilty of. If a person is guilty of all seven, they will die from not having enough strength to breathe and have a heartbeat. Touma figures out that the spell doesn't actually judge its targets by their actual sins, but by what the caster believes. By proving that the caster's accusations of his sins are false, the spell stops affecting him. The spell also works both ways; Touma is able to accuse the caster of every sin except lust, incapacitating him.
  • Code:Breaker: Ogami uses The Seven Flames, which cleanse the seven deadly sins. They later become the weaknesses the fighters have to defeat in a ritual (Ogami's is Pride, or rather his idea that he's a failure who doesn't deserve redemption).
  • Death Note: This is Light Yagami's character in spades:
    • Pride: His most definite trait and Fatal Flaw. He quickly developed a massive god-complex from using the death note, convinced that everything his does is good.
    • Greed: He cares only to get as much power as he can and him alone, and betrays and backstabs anyone who has enabled him once they're done.
    • Wrath: He flies into numerous fits of murderous rage whenever someone criticizes him or throws a wrench into his plans
    • Sloth: In the second part (at least), he has his men do his dirty work for him and uses his Death Note whenever he murders his victims as using it requires no effort.
    • Lust: He develops a sick pleasure in killing people and craves admiration.
    • Gluttony: Even after he has made the rule of Kira consume the world and has snubbed out any possible opposition, he still continues to murder people.
    • Envy: He cannot stand the thought of someone outsmarting him.
  • Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Each member of the Twelve Kizuki corresponds to one of the sins through their motivation, personality or powers:
    • Greed: Kokushibo, Upper Rank One, who, despite being a respected swordsman with a stable, happy life with his wife and children, threw it all away by transforming into a demon all so he could finally best his older brother Yoriichi.
    • Gluttony: Doma, Upper Rank Two, who has achieved his power by devouring the followers of his cult for centuries. He also loves eating young women and can literally absorb his victims through his flesh, leaving nothing of them behind.
    • Wrath: Akaza, Upper Rank Three, who became a demon after violently avenging the deaths of his loved ones, after which he lost his will to live. Due becoming a demon, he lost his human memories and his will to fight manifested through a never-ending desire for slaughter and battle with worthy opponents.
    • Sloth: Hantengu, Upper Rank Four, who, being a cowardly cheat who feigned blindness to rob and murder kind strangers, uses his Literal Split Personality powers to battle his opponents, while his real body runs away and waits the fight out.
    • Pride: Gyokko, Upper Rank Five, who's an Attention Whore artist obsessed with creating the finest "art" and forcing everyone to adore it. Also, his underastimation of Muichiro during their fight, and petty mission to break Haganezuka's concentration on honing Yoriichi's sword are what got him killed and allowed the Demon Slayer Corps to re-discover the existence of the Demon Slayer Marks.
    • Lust: Daki, Upper Rank Six, who works as a high-class prostitute (oiran) in the Red Light District. She is also obsessed with receiving public adoration and acts childish whenever things don't go her way.
    • Envy: Gyutaro, the other half of the Upper Rank Six position, who throws self-mutilating tantrums whenever he sees someone with a better life. This stems from being mistreated by Red Light District's rich class for his ugly appearance, and his worldview is "take before you're taken from".
    • Speaking about the Demon King Muzan, he embodies all seven sins:
      • Pride: He's a huge narcissist who views everyone else bellow him, he doesn't take kindly any insults towards him, and his ultimate goal is to become the Ultimate Life Form by overcoming his weakness to sunlight.
      • Greed: He understandably wished to overcome his terminal illness, and when he does, he becomes obsessed with the thought of becoming an absolutely perfect being as a demon imprevious to sun.
      • Envy: His obsession with overcoming all of his weaknesses stems from being born incredibly sick and always having to struggle to survive.
      • Wrath: He's very short-tempered, vicious and ruthless, showing very little compassion even to his subordinates.
      • Sloth: Ever since his near-defeat by Yoriichi, he has the Twelve Kizuki do all of his dirty work out of fear of encountering a demon slayer with Yoriichi's strength, to the point that he hasn't had met a single Hashira before the story starts.
      • Gluttony: He quickly began devouring humans in droves the moment he was transformed into a demon. He also overindulges his life to research the Blue Spider Lily, ending up living as a man, woman, and child because of it.
      • Lust: He's lustful for power, not for sexual entertainment. However, he's implied to use Tamayo as demonic concubine of sorts, considering she was arounding during Muzan's encounter with Yoriichi.
  • It's subtle, but some of the characters in DEVILMAN crybaby represent a certain vice, which also ends up being their undoing.
    • Pride: Ryo/Satan. His Darwinian mindset, his contempt for humanity and their virtues, and his plans to overthrow God blinds him to what he truly desires. When he does finally get what he thought he wants, only then he realizes too late what his plans had cost him and all he can do is grieve about it.
    • Wrath: Akira. Akira's greatest strength lies in his empathy; however, Miki's death broke him so much that he can no longer shed tears for the pain of others. While he doesn't turn his back on humanity, he now fights in the name of revenge and anger rather than love and understanding, and he eventually meets his end at Satan's hands.
    • Envy: Miko. Her resentment at Miki upstaging her in everything caused her to become a Devilman, which spurred on her ego and made her act purely out of self-interest. What differs her from the rest is that while she also dies, she was able to redeem herself beforehand by confiding to Miki her true feelings and reconciling with her.
    • Sloth: Moyuru. He has no interest in fighting for either demons or humans, and only prioritizes his own survival. Not long after, he suffers a brutal death when he sides with the demons purely out of self-preservation.
    • Lust: Silene. After finding about that Akira is Amon's newest host, she seduces Akira in an attempt to reunite with Amon — which is what does her in, since when she calls for Amon to awaken and take her, Akira responds by brutalizing her via Interplay of Sex and Violence to the point that her death is only a matter of minutes.
    • Gluttony: Taro. While it's his excessive curiosity that made him a Devilman, his lack of knowledge in how to deal with his change made him incapable of containing his hunger, leading him to eat his mother... just as his father catches him in the act, and they all end up dead when the military spots them.
    • Greed: Nagasaki. The standard photographer character trying to get a big scoop by investigating dangerous events. How else are things going to end for him?
  • Digimon: Various series have a group of seven Mega Level Digimon referred to as the "Seven Great Demon Lords", each one representing one of the sins. Unusual for this trope, the Demon Lords usually aren't presented as a Quirky Miniboss Squad with the only exception being in the game Digimon World Data Squad. Rather, they only work with one another when needed, and are just as likely to fight each other. The group itself is usually only mentioned in passing in the various anime and manga, with the individual members being:
    • Pride: The Fallen Angel Digimon Lucemon, who rebelled against god like his namesake and seeks to reformat the Digital World in his image. Features as the Big Bad of Digimon Frontier, and an Arc Villain in Digimon Fusion.
    • Envy: Leviamon, a massive beast at the depths of the Net Ocean. Of the Demon Lords, it is the most Out of Focus, only having a minor role as one of the Digimemories used by Mikey Kudo in Digimon Fusion.
    • Wrath: Daemon, a Seraphimon that fell from grace after a rage fueled rebellion. Features as an Arc Villain for Digimon Adventure 02, and the Big Bad for Digimon V-Tamer 01.
    • Sloth: Belphemon, a Killer Teddy Bear that normally sleeps soundly, until it is awoken and enters "Rage Mode", causing it to rampage until it returns to sleep. Features as a tool and later One-Winged Angel for the major antagonist Akihiro Kurata in Digimon Data Squad.
    • Greed: Barbamon, a manipulative Fallen Angel that resides in the heart of the Dark Area. Features as the Big Bad of Digimon Next.
    • Gluttony: Beelzemon, a loner who wanders the Digital World in search of battle to prove his strength, he is the Token Good Teammate of the group, refusing to pick on the weak, and being the most likely to have a Heel–Face Turn. Most prominently featured as a major character in Digimon Tamers as the Mega Level of the Anti-Hero Impmon. Initially a flat out villain, after he is initially defeated and comes to regret his actions, he becomes The Atoner and changes to the Ascended Demon "Blast Mode".
      • It should be noted that while Beelzemon himself is considered one of the Demon Lords, "Blast Mode" and the version that debuted in Digimon Fusion are not considered members.
    • Lust: Lilithmon, an Ophanimon that has fallen from grace, and now seduces her opponents as the "Goddess of Darkness". Features as one the Bagra Army's three head officers in Digimon Fusion.
  • The Quirky Miniboss Squad in Doki Doki! PreCure are named after the sins. However, in a twist, Lust and Goma, the ones who represent lust and pride, were killed long before the story began, so you’re just left with Ira (wrath), Marmo (greed), Bel (sloth), Leva (envy), and Gula (gluttony).
  • Fairy Tail: The Grimoire Heart's elite team, the Seven Kin of Purgatory, represents the seven sins:
    • Envy: Ultear Milkovich, who's driven by her false belief, that her mother has abandoned and replaced her, and her goal is to travel back in time to relive her childhood, unaware (until now) that Ur was lied to believe her daughter has died.
    • Wrath: Zancrow, a very short-tempered and psychopathic Blood Knight, who at once pettily killed his own men.
    • Lust: Meredy, who's motivated by her Undying Loyalty towards Ultear, while her Maguilty Sense magic allows her link people's senses.
    • Pride: Azuma, who's willing to do anything to battle a worthy opponent from threatening opponent's loved ones to betting his own guild's chance of victory. In the latter case, he actually kept the promise.
    • Gluttony: Kain Hikaru, who's a dimwitted and overweight Big Eater.
    • Sloth: Rustyrose, who fights only using his Arc of Embodiment magic, capable of creating anything he desires from his imagination.
    • Greed: Zoldeo, who possessed Celestial Spirit Capricorn and tries to murder Lucy, his former master Layla's daughter, despite promising Layla to pass down Capricorn's key to Lucy at appropriate age.
  • In Fullmetal Alchemist, the homunculi are named after the sins. Many of them have powers appropriate to their name: Envy is a shape shifter with a raging inferiority complex who can imitate anyone and ruins people's lives because it can't have one itself, Gluttony is a simpleton who can consume anything, Greed has a shield to protect his possessions, and Lust is beautiful but deadly. This is made more obvious in the manga where Sloth is a giant that frequently falls asleep and yet is both the fastest and strongest of the Homunculi; he wastes all the potential he has through laziness. Pride looks like Father's original form, and suffers from a near total Lack of Empathy due to his inability to see beyond himself, and Wrath leads Amestris through constant wars and genocides to cause enough bloodshed for Father's plans, and is an absolutely brutal fighter. The reason they are named after the Seven Sins is because they are the embodiment of the desires of their "Father." Lampshaded by Hohenheim, who notes that Father was much more human back when he had all his seven desires in him. The reason they were purged out was part of an ambition to supersede humanity. Truth mocks him for thinking this would ever work.
    • The homunculi all die in a way ironic to their respective sin. Lust died because she couldn’t take any more punishment, Gluttony is eaten, Envy commits suicide when realizing his jealousy for humans, Sloth dies from overexertion, Wrath dies peacefully, Greed dies in a selfless sacrifice and Pride is reborn into a humble life.
    • Greed is a particular example of why this didn't work. Father couldn't purge himself entirely of greed, because greed includes the desire for power. Without that, Father wouldn't have any motivation, so he only purged the parts he didn't want: Desire for companionship and friendship. Because the Homunculus Greed desires this, he ends up betraying Father and joining the heroes.
    • It's interesting to note that despite supposedly wanting to cast off his sins, Father still commits them: he wants all of the knowledge in the world for himself (greed) which Truth would label as taking more than his fair share (gluttony); views himself as far above the humans who created him (pride) but secretly wants the human construct of family and feels so insecure about his visage that he assumes Hohenheim's (envy); refuses to take an active role in his own plans until he has no other choice (sloth); slaughters millions of innocent people without justice or restraint (wrath); and, although he's more than likely asexual, he has a very visceral, "pleasures-of-the-flesh" reaction when he activates the national transmutation circle (lust).
    • In Fullmetal Alchemist (2003), some are a little different. Pride is King Bradley who behaves with incredible arrogance, seeing himself as an agent of God. He is also called Pride because he ages like a human, meaning that he is Dante's "pride and joy" amongst her other creations. Wrath is a character original to the anime, though he is Izumi's stillborn son that did indeed come to life, if not Came Back Wrong and desires to harm people for what happened to him. Sloth is obsessed with taking the easy way out by killing Ed and Al rather than come to terms with what she is, that being their mother who also Came Back Wrong.
  • In Inuyasha, The Band of Seven conveniently fits this trope.
    • Pride: Bankotsu, being the leader of the Band of Seven, states at one point that he "does what he wants with no fear of the afterlife." He's also a big talker, and has the skills to match.
    • Greed: Renkotsu becomes obsessed with immortality and betrays his team for the jewel shards.
    • Envy: Jakotsu lashes out at anyone who interferes with him and Inuyasha.
    • Sloth: Suikotsu is unwilling to kill while his good side is dominant.
    • Lust: Mukotsu is intent on marrying (but nonetheless raping) Kagome. Jakotsu, who is obsessed with Inuyasha, could also fit.
    • Wrath: Let's face it, Ginkotsu is one angry dude. He doesn't express much emotion beyond anger. Same for Suikotsu's evil side.
    • Gluttony: Kyokotsu eats demons. And possibly humans. This is where his immense size comes from.
  • In Karakuridouji Ultimo, there is a group of 50 evil robots called Douji who each represent a different negative trait, and the strongest evil Douji (barring Vice himself) are the embodiments of the Seven Deadly Sins. The Seven Sins are extremely powerful, each rivaling Vice in just how much of a Hero Killer they can be. For example, the one representing Lust can completely shut down any other Douji within a several mile radius. The one representing greed can multiply endlessly. The one representing Sloth didn't do a lot during his first appearance, but when he moved, he killed six people in one strike. Etc. Interestingly, the Hero Counterparts of the Seven Deadly Sins seem to be the Six Perfections from Buddhism rather than the Seven Heavenly Virtues.
  • Kiznaiver puts a spin on this trope with the main characters.
  • Each of the main characters of Neon Genesis Evangelion represents a certain sin:
    • Wrath: Shinji Ikari, who acts very childish and furious whenever his piloting of EVA overwhelms him. This is to the point he willingly triggers the Third Impact after being pushed too many times.
    • Sloth: Rei Ayanami, who's very seldom at doing anything other than piloting EVA. Her sloth is best reflected with her room, which is very disorganized and messy. The fact she is raised as a disposable Apocalypse Maiden leaves her unable to work with others as a team, leading to her death several times. Even her hair color is evocative of the sin.
    • Pride: Asuka Langley Soryuu, who craves affection but shuts away anyone who gets too close to her, making her unable to work with others. It's also her behaviour towards Shinji when he was at his lowest that caused him to snap and trigger the Third Impact.
    • Lust: Misato Katsuragi, who leads a borderline hedonistic do-whatever-she-pleases lifestyle as a coping mechanism for her low self-esteem.
    • Greed: Gendo Ikari, who's willing to let the entire world get destroyed in the Third Impact if it means he will be reunited with his wife Yui.
    • Gluttony: The entire SEELE organization, since their end goal is to reduce all of the humanity back to their LCL state and fuse all of their souls into a god-like being they would be in charge of.
    • Envy: Ritsuko Akagi, who displays intensely jealous behavior over Gendo and even destroys his Rei clone factory to spite him, not to mention it's Gendo who kills her in the end.
    • And all of them suffer the Eighth Sin of Despair.
  • The Shōnen manga series Reborn! (2004) has the seven sins represented by the seven top members of an elite assassination squad, the Varia. The seven protagonists set to battle against them in a fight for the right to inherit a powerful mafia family embody the Seven Heavenly Virtues (but not as obviously as the antagonists). The Varia take their names directly from the Seven Deadly Sins:
    • Greed: Mammon (obsessed with money)
    • Envy: Leviathan (wishes to be the only one to please his boss; is envious of Tsuna and his group from taking his "rightful" position as Thunder Guardian)
    • Gluttony/Gula: Gola Mosca (consumes the Dying Will Flames of Vongola IX for power; bonus points for "mosca" meaning "fly", as Beelzebub is also known as "Lord of the Flies")
    • Lust/Luxuria: Lussuria (admires the bodies of other men)
    • Pride/Superbia: Superbia Squalo (a loudmouth very proud of his rank as #1 swordsman in the world)
    • Sloth/Acedia: Belphegor (a natural-born killer who is lazy and doesn't take his job very seriously)
    • Wrath: Xanxus + Flame of Wrath (a generally unpleasant person who calls those he considers beneath him scum. He possesses the Flames of Wrath, originally owned by Vongola II, the most powerful Dying Will Flames in existence).
  • Re:Zero has the Sin Archbishops of the Witch's Cult, as well as the Witches of Sin. The Witches were the original bearers of the so-called "Authorities", unique magical powers inherited through absorbing the "witch factors" after the previous holder's death. After the Witch of Envy, Satella, went insane and supposedly killed and devoured the other Witches, the factors wound up inherited by the Archbishops of the nascent Witch's Cult, an organization supposedly dedicated to the worship of the Witch of Envy. Note that, though the Authorities will always display a power vaguely themed after their aligned sin, the strength and exact nature of the ability depend heavily upon the user. Since Satella is still technically alive, there never was an Archbishop of Envy. All the Authority bearers are named after celestial objects like asteroids, important stars or constellations in Earth's night sky, which strongly hints at an explicit connection between them and the protagonist Natsuki Subaru, whose name is the Japanese word for the Pleiades cluster .
    • Witches of Sin:
      • Witch of Envy: Satella, the dreaded half-elf Witch who supposedly killed and devoured the other six Witches and swallowed half the world, before being narrowly stopped and sealed away by the Dragon, the Sage, and the Sword Saint. She acts as the Satanic Archetype of the setting, with the other Witches largely forgotten by the modern age. The nature of her original Authority of Envy is unknown, but she seems to have been able to utilize variations of other Authorities as well. Unknown to the world is that Satella and the Witch of Envy are two different personalities, the former being nicer and approachable and the latter being violent and insane. She is also the one to gift Natsuki Subaru with his power after summoning him to her world because she is in love with him and wants him to kill her. How and why is currently unknown.
      • Witch of Greed: Echidna, a self-proclaimed "very evil magic user" obsessed with satisfying her endless greed for knowledge by any means neccesary. Though the nature of Echidna's Authority remains unknown, she is known to have been an exceptionally gifted natural magic user, and is the author of the Tomes of Wisdom, magical books with the power to predict the future of their holders. The modern Witch's Cult uses lesser versions of these, known as "Gospels", although their accuracy compared to the genuine product remains a matter of debate. She gifted one to her apprentice, Roswaal Mathers, and the other to her daughter/creation, Beatrice.
      • Witch of Pride: Typhon, a little girl whose life goal is "judging" other people for their sins and crimes. However, due to her skewed and childish view on justice, she wound up killing uncounted innocents, making no distinction between the severity and context of any individual crime. Her Authority apparently manifests via breaking apart the bodies of those she deems "bad people".
      • Witch of Wrath: Minerva, an ostensibly affable Witch whose stated goal was to rid the world of pain and suffering. To that end, her Authority was capable of instantly restoring anyone she punched to perfect health, as well as granting her super-strength and speed. However, the mana required to perform these feats was drawn directly from the world's atmosphere, causing untold natural disasters and general misfortune to occur in other random locations. Due to this and her insistence on healing any injured people she came across, Minerva was, ironically, one of the most hated Witches of her generation.
      • Witch of Gluttony: Daphne, an Ambiguously Human young girl chained into a moving iron maiden with an insatiable hunger and a rather darwinist approach to life who is responsible for creating the demonic witchbeasts prowling the world in a misguided effort to end world hunger. Her Authority apparently manifests by invoking maddening hunger in anyone who touches or makes eye contact with her (in the Web Novel, Subaru bites his own fingers off without noticing after getting hit with a small dose of her power).
      • Witch of Lust: Carmilla, an extremely self-conscious, shy, and frail young woman who was described as being "cute" rather than outright beautiful. Her Authority, the "Faceless Bride", manifested through people spotting her are literally unable to tear their eyes away from her, entranced enough by her presence to forget how to speak, eat, or even breath, eventually dying in the process. Her secondary abilities include appearing to specific people in the guise of their loved ones and helping them "understand" the feelings of others, as she did to Subaru in order to help him understand Satella's love for him.
      • Witch of Sloth: Sekhmet, a beautiful woman and Lazy Bum extraordinaire who finds it bothersome to speak or even breathe. Ironically, her power is noted by the author to be second only to Satella's among the Witches, yet she is too lazy to do much of anything with it - even if she did drive away the Divine Dragon Volcanica at one point, purely because he was bothering her. The exact nature of her version of the Sloth Authority is never confirmed, though it seems to be a more powerful version of the "Unseen Hand".
      • Witch of Vainglory: Pandora, a mysterious Witch who doesn't appear to be directly affiliated with the other Witches, but serves as a benefactor of sorts to the later Witch's Cult. Her Authority manifests as a form of reality warping, wherein she can instantly teleport people, tamper with others' memories, revive corpses into an undead state and undo her own death after being reduced to a greasy smudge. There are likely limits to her power, as she doesn't appear completely omnipotent, but any such limits are currently unspecified.
      • Warlock of Melancholy: Hector, the only male Witch, and an elusive character who at one point hunted for Echidna and came to blows with the original Roswaal Mathers. Little is known about him, including his current status and whereabouts. His Authority manifests through creating immensely powerful gravity fields that he can freely manipulate.
    • Sin Archbishops:
      • Archibishop of Sloth: Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti, a crazed zealot dedicated towards "repaying the Witch's love" and apparently the only Archbishop fully intent on engineering Satella's escape from her prison. His Authority manifests as the "Unseen Hand", an invisible force field in the shape of a hand which he can manipulate freely. He was also able to combine these to change their shape and size. The strength and number of these depend upon the user - Petelgeuse was said to be able to generate one hundred of these and was regarded as the weakest of the Archbishops. This was due to his nature being in many ways the polar opposite of his Authority, causing him to deteriorate physically and mentally after absorbing it in the heat of battle.
      • Archbishop of Greed: Regulus Corneas, a Psychopathic Manchild obsessed with his "rights and privileges", Regulus is considered the strongest Authority user barring Satella herself. His version of the Authority of Greed, "Stillness of an Object's Time", can stop the time of anything he touches or breaths, making him effectively invulnerable and capable of producing unblockable, extremely destructive attacks. The only downside to this is that his heart is stopped as well whenever using the ability - to counter this, his secondary ability, "Small King", allows him to "hide" his heart within the chest of one of his "subjects" (one of his many, many wives), effectively borrowing a working heart and allowing him to use his primary ability without limit.
      • Archbishop/s of Gluttony: Ley Batenkaitos, Roy Alphard and Louis Arneb. Unlike the other authorities, the Authority of Gluttony is divided equally between three "siblings", though their Ambiguously Human nature makes their exact status hard to determine. Louis in particular is merely a disembodied soul trapped within the Corridor of Memories, only being able to interact with the outside world by possesing the bodies of her "brothers". Their Authority manifests in several ways. The Gluttonies are capable of eating a person's name, memories or both. If the name is eaten, the owner is forgotten by the surrounding world, being unable to interact with others, use magic or form contracts with Spirits. If the memories are eaten, the person becomes amnesiac and loses most of their defining characteristics, effectively erasing their identity. If both are eaten, the person enters suspended animation, no longer aging or needing to eat or excrete, with everyone around them forgetting everything about them. It also allows them to use the Eclipse powers - the Lunar Eclipse to utilise the victim's memories to channel their skills and certain powers, and the Solar Eclipse to physically transform into their victim, though Louis seems to be the only one of the three not averse to utilising the latter. The Authority also allows them a limited form of direct control over witchbeasts, most notably the White Whale, which they use to cover any Witch's Cult operations they undertake.
      • Archbishop of Wrath: Sirius, a creepy stalker obsessed with Petelgeuse, she is covered head-to-toe in bandages and uses golden chains as her primary offensive weapon. Her Authority allows her not only to set these on fire at will, but also to transmit, intensify and link emotions and sensations between people, often to the point of insanity. The nastiest side effect of this, however, is that if anyone under the effect of the Authority dies - Sirius very much included - all those affected will die in the same manner, regardless of circumstance. She is also possessed of an unnaturally long lifespan and is said to be the physically strongest of the Archbishops.
      • Archbishop of Lust: Capella Emerada Lugnica, an exceptionally bratty, foul-mouthed, and generally unbearable Hate Sink heavily implied to have been a member of - and responsible for the extinction of - the former Lugunican Royal Family. Her Authority, "Variation and Change", allows her to transform herself or anyone else into whatever form she desires, as well as replace lost body parts on the fly and reduce her foes into disgusting globs of flesh. Commonly, she uses the form of a young woman wearing nothing but skimpy bikini heavily reminiscent of Felt. She also seems to be the one in charge of the assassin guild to which Elsa and Meili worked for, under the guise of "Mama".
      • Archbishop of Pride: Currently vacant, with many both in-universe and out speculating that the Authority of Pride has been granted to Subaru himself by the Witch of Envy, Satella, in the form of his "Return by Death". Stride Vollachia, a foreign noble and former heir to the Vollachian Empire, was the last known holder, however, Stride only features in a prequel novel and is long dead by the time the main plot begins. Though Stride possessed a "Gospel", the nature of his version of the Authority of Pride remains unknown.
  • In The Rising of the Shield Hero, the Curse series are powerful versions of the Legendary Weapons that align with the sins. They can only be unlocked when the wielder begins to fall prey to the sin and warp their wielder's mind by enhancing the sin to become an all-consuming need. For instance, main character Naofumi unlocks the Wrath Shield early on, which becomes his Superpowered Evil Side.
  • The Seven Deadly Sins is a series whose main protagonists are knights themed around the deadly sins. Their characters however play with the general theme. There are also twists in each of the ways they "obtained" their sins.
    • Wrath: Meliodas is a trickster and pervert but a character you don't want to anger. He was the leader of the Ten Commandments 3,000 years ago, and wiped out the Kingdom of Danafor in a fit of rage after seeing Fraudrin kill Liz before his eyes.
    • Envy: Diane is a Giant who is envious of regular sized girls since they can interact normally with Meliodas, her crush. She was branded with the sin of Envy as a Frame-Up for the death of her mentor (Matrona), who seemingly perished in a trap devised by soldiers she was working for, with Diane being used as a scapegoat and accused of conspiring against Matrona due to feeling weak in comparison.
    • Greed: Ban is an immortal Impossible Thief who can steal things as if he were a magnet. Not just a person's physical possessions, but their stat buffs and things like awareness of pain. His sin of Greed was a misunderstanding, being accused of burning down a sacred forest that housed the fountain of immortality he sought after, despite the fact that he was, in fact, trying to protect said forest from the true culprit, a demon. He just happened to be the only guy around when things settled down.
    • Sloth: King is a wingless child-like fairy who is often seen floating around and carrying a pillow. Physically, he is very weaknote , but has some of the strongest magic on the team. He was branded with Sloth because he let a close friend of his (Helbram) slaughter countless humans. What people don't know is that he was attempting to save Helbram from the humans who captured him (Helbram managed to escape on his own, but the atrocities he witnessed humans doing to his kind caused him to snap), but because of a Trauma-Induced Amnesia, King ended up forgetting his friend and his rescue mission, thus Helbram was allowed to carry out his revenge unopposed.
    • Lust: Gowther is an extremely effeminate looking man who uses light based arrows that manipulates his foes' thoughts and desires. His sin of Lust was also a misunderstanding, as he was witnessed naked next to his dead lover, who had actually died of an illness earlier with him attempting to resuscitate her, but because he was a magical doll, he had no idea how human anatomy worked, so he ended up being caught in a compromising position and believed to have comitted murder.
    • Gluttony: Merlin, also known as the Crimson Pig, is a stripperific Lady of Black Magic with an incredible amount of magical skill and powers. She is described with an insatiable hunger for more knowledge and information.
    • Pride: Escanor is a thin, weak man with low self-confidence at night, but during the day he becomes powerful and incredibly arrogant.
  • Seven Mortal Sins: This show deals with Demon Lords who represent the Sins, though there are actually nine of them, borrowing two sins from Ponticus list of "evil thoughts". The show likes to explore how the sins can be made into virtues while also serving as the weakness of the Demon Lords when they are taken too far.
    • Lucifer is Pride. She was an angel cast out of Heaven for her overwhelming arrogance, but she is a Smug Super as she has the power to back up her boasts. After arriving in hell, she decides to take it over to prove her superiority. Because she believes she's better than everyone, she can shrug off any pain or attempts to control her mentally. However, this arrogance also often leads her to take the hard way as she wants to prove her power. For example, when she was trapped in a torture device, Leviathan attempted to free her, but she said she wanted to prove she could escape on her own. She succeeds, but it takes several hours.
    • Leviathan is Envy. She is in love with Lucifer and cannot stand anyone getting in the way of that, especially Lucifer's human servant Maria Totsuka, whom Lucifer seems to favor more. Maria points out that deep inside, all Leviathan wants is to be loved, and wanting love isn't a sin, weakening her.
    • Belial is Vanity. She's the self-proclaimed leader and constantly brags that she's the most beautiful, powerful, etc. However, she's a Small Name, Big Ego as she's not nearly as powerful as she thinks she is and the other sins don't take her seriously. She's a Not-So-Harmless Villain though, and most of her persona is a facade.
    • Satan is Wrath. She's a Blood Knight and very aggressive. She gets stronger the more people around her feel angry and she can command wrathful people like soldiers as minions. Lucifer just beats her in a straight-up fight while pointing out giving in to anger made Satan make mistakes and leave herself open. When Belial punishes her for treason, she traps Satan in a pool of the mashed-up flesh of all the people she has ever killed, and they are still conscious and eager to get revenge on her by groping and torturing her.
    • Asmodeus is Lust. She enslaves humans (male and female) with both her looks and her Living Aphrodisiac powers and gets stronger the more people feel lust around her. Lucifer points out lust is nothing but a natural body reaction and so it isn't really a sin. When Belial punishes her for treason, she has Asmodeus tied up naked and shibari style while floating around in a tornado that flays her body with its high speed winds. While it is indeed painful, she is Too Kinky to Torture and gets off on it.
    • Mammon is Greed. She runs both a real estate and potion selling business on Earth, charging absurdly high prices. When she claims someone with a Deal with the Devil, she confiscates all their assets. She cannot stand anyone stealing or damaging her stuff. Maria finds out that her obsession with wealth comes from the fact that she has over 500,000 demonic children she needs to take care of and the numerous people she enslaves are made into babysitters for them. While Maria recognizes that her greed is justified as it comes from motherly love, she manages to convince her to ease up on the money collecting for a bit and actually spend time with her children. When Belial punishes her for treason, Mammon is trapped on an iron horse torture device made out of her melted down gold, with bags of gold coins as the weights.
    • Beelezbub is Gluttony. She is a short, petite girl who eats enormous amounts of food all the time without getting fat. She isn't really evil and just enjoys eating. Lucifer challenges her to an eating contest, which ends in a tie when they both get hospitalized for overeating. When Belial punishes her for treason, Beelezbub is restrained by two burly demons and repeatedly subjected to Force Feeding, which she doesn't enjoy since she is constantly choking.
    • Belphegor is Sloth. She spends most of her time loafing around playing with a smart phone, and when Lucifer invaded their stronghold, she didn't care and had to be convinced to fight. She tempts mortals with a virtual reality video game world adventure, so fun that they never want to leave, neglecting school, work, etc. She loses when the game is finally beaten, causing all of the players to finally leave. Afterwards, she is too lazy to try anything else. When Belial punishes her for treason, Belphegor is trapped on a treadmill and blasted with flamethrowers every time she tries to stop or escape.
    • Astaroth is Melancholy. She is both very shy and apathetic, and doesn't really care about Hell's cause or tempting mortals to sin. She is a singer on Earth, and Lucifer defeats her peacefully in a musical showdown. However, her songs have very depressing lyrics, and they can indeed drain people's happiness if she chooses.
  • In So I'm a Spider, So What? skills corresponding to the sins can be purchased or earned. They are Game Breakers, granting incredible abilities and skills, but are only realistically achievable for people who strongly displayed the sin in the first place. The protagonist, among other things, would have gotten Gluttony if not for plot reasons and does possess Sloth. She is pretty much constantly hunting and eating to the point it destroys ecosystems while her sheer apathy towards most things and people results in a rather uncomfortable indifference to the pain and suffering she causes. Meanwhile, the character Wrath has always struggled to control his temper and find reasonable outlets for it as his first reaction to seeing injustice is always forcibly stopping it. When you have superpowers, this can end very badly.
  • Soul Eater did this with the book of Eibon, a book that had the seven sins as chapters and the group ventured to to save Death the Kid from the mysterious collector named Noah who is an avatar of the book itself:
    • Lust turned the characters into the opposite gender, more specifically into what they viewed as attractive in the opposite gender. The more lustful someone is, the longer you stayed in the opposite gender, which led to the hilarious realization of Tsubaki was the most perverted one there (well, excluding Blair and barely beating Liz). It was also guarded by a Succubus (who fell for the now male and very handsome Blair, who blasted her out of the way).
    • Gluttony was based on food and drove them with the desire to indulge.
    • Wrath made anyone who was in it angry and short-tempered. Furthermore, none other than Excalibur was there, to further infuriate the group, though he was serious and straightfoward here. His presence there is more significantly justified since we soon learn he is one of the Great Old Ones like Eibon, Shinigami and Asura, representing the Madness Born From Anger.
    • Greed was based on money and the Noah that kidnapped Death primarily driven by, especially since we see other Noahs later on.
    • Envy showed the occupants their fears, insecurities and so on, as seen when Maka got seperated from the others and was bombarded with the chapter attacking her sense of self and exploiting her insecurities over whether she was good enough to be Soul's partner (as he was now a full-fledged Death Scythe and was getting requests from meisters for this, something that worried Maka). This left her vulnerable to being attacked until Soul saved her.
    • Sloth was a distorted chapter where everything just stood still.
    • Pride, the lowest chapter, is where it leads to the occuptant in here, an Eldritch Abomination that tempts people with power, since he is the Great Old One of Madness Born From Power. Death the Kid temporarily succumbed to the Madness of Power, which awoke the Madness of Order in him (the same one Shinigami-sama has and the source of Kid's Obsessively Organized personality) and believed the ultimate order was nothingness. Black Star had to invoke the same sort of power in order to beat sense back to Kid.
    • Fascinatingly enough, the Great Old One also considers a "desire for justice" to be a dangerous "eighth" sin. He notes how the desire for doing so led to justifying all sorts of atrocities and that it was this folly committed by him and his colleagues in the past that led to Asura being born. He even warns them on not succumbing to it though Black Star counters by noting that he and Kid are not alone, having Maka and the others to ground them.
  • That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: These are represented by the Sin series of Ultimate Skills, some of the most powerful abilities in the series, and paired with the Archdemon related to said sin. Almost all of these are owned by the Demon Lords of the series which also reflects on their personalities, but not all of the Demon Lords are inherently evil. The "weaker"note  Unique Skill versions are named directly after the sins in question, and were often obtained in that form before their wielders evolved them into Ultimate Skills.
    • Prideful King Lucifer owned by Guy Crimson: Guy is defined by his pride as one of the strongest beings in the world, the first of the seven Primordial Demons to ascend to the level that he has, and for being his own master, viewing himself as the ultimate challenger to mankind's survival. However, he is not so proud that he doesn't value companions or worthy adversaries. Befitting his mindset of being one of the greatest beings in existence, Lucifier allows him to copy any Skill he witnesses visually for his own benefit, even other Ultimate Skills.
    • Wrathful King Satan owned by Milim Nava: Milim is the World's Strongest Woman feared throughout the world by her continent-ending rages when pushed to anger, which can be surprisingly easy given her temper and her Blood Knight attitude. However, most of the time she acts like a flighty goofball who deep down wants to have friends, and will restrain herself for their sakes if they ask. Satan grants her weaponized Unstoppable Rage, converting her stroked anger into theoretically infinite reserves of energy that allow her to fight as long as she needs to until she either calms down on her own or her target is dead. Normally, this skill could be fatal since it relies on the user's innate magical energy to maintain, but Milim has no such drawbacks as she inherited the infinite reserves of magic that her father Veldanava possessed.
    • Gluttonous King Beelzebub owned by Rimuru Tempest: Rimuru is a "glutton" in the sense that as a slime he has the potential for infinite growth by constantly "devouring"/assimilating other objects, spells, or even people into himself. Yet his gluttony has only ever been aimed at ensuring a prosperous nation for his beloved subjects by defeating all threats against them. Beelzebub allows him to absorb, store, and corrode anything he can successfully trap at will, alongside the ability to manifest or use any traits or abilities the target possessed. He can also obtain the Skills of any of his subordinates as well as freely grant them Skills they're compatible with.
    • Envious King Leviathan owned by True White Ice Dragon Velzard: Velzard is one of the most powerful beings in the world and usually presents herself in a dignified and mature manner. However, she can be bratty and shallow especially when she feels someone she cares about isn't giving her the attention she feels she deserves such as feeling envious when her partner Guy shows others particular favor. She originally came in contact with Guy when she tried to kill him simply because she was jealous of how much attention her older brother Veldanava was giving him. Leviathan allows her to degrade the effect of abilities used against her as well as absorb her foe's energy to restore her own.
    • Lustful King Asmodeus owned by Ruminas Valentine: As the Vampire Monarch, Ruminas possesses a lust for power and domination, wanting to forge a successful kingdom under her banner. She's also lustful in the sexual sense, as she has a crush on the time-traveling hero Chloe and is rather jealous that Chloe is in love with Rimuru, and possesses an only slightly-less noticeable desire for her subordinate Hinata. However, she also has the well-being of her subjects in mind and prefers peace, which is why she forged an empire for humans that she rules from the shadows as its god of worship while also controlling an underground empire for vampires that they live in safety and security within. Asmodeus allows her limited control over life and death and to heal wounds and resurrect the fallen as long as their souls are intact.
    • Slothful King Belphegor owned by Dino: Dino is a Fallen Angel who doesn't like to be serious or very attentive and at first glance comes off as the weakest Demon Lord, but in reality is the greatest swordsman in the world when actually motivated to fight seriously. Belphegor allows Dino to store power as long as he's doing the minimum amount of anything before drawing upon those stored up reserves all at once for a temporary yet massive increase in power. It also deprives its victims of willpower, both preventing them from using abilities and making them Dino's subordinates.
    • Greedy King Mammon owned by Kagurazaka Yuuki: As the Big Bad, Yuuki is a man who is a noted genius yet easily bored with life and wanting to avail himself of interesting endeavors, to the point he decided he would amass enough power and influence to Take Over the World and in the web novel version destroy it However, the light novel and subsequent adaptations make it more sympathetic by showing his "greed" is driven by a genuine desire to make the world a better place by his metric. Mammon allows him to "steal" various things from his victims, including their minds to make them loyal to him, their lives to drain their energy or even souls, and finally steal the Skills of those weaker than him in power and will, which he can achieve with the first two effects.
  • In Trinity Seven, the girls obtain their magic from archives with Sin themes. However, they each embody the opposite of their sins. The one with lust is a prude, the one with sloth is a hard worker, etc.
  • In You Are Being Summoned, Azazel, the following demons represent the Seven Deadly Sins:
    • Lust: Azazel Atsuhi, a perverted Satyr demon.
    • Gluttony: Beelzebub Yuichi, a shit-eating fly demon.
    • Greed: Salamander Kimitake, a Straw Misogynist.
    • Wrath: Moloch Yoshinobu, a bad-tempered cow demon.
    • Sloth: Gusion... a Heavy Sleeper and a winged monkey-like demon.
    • Envy: Undine Megumi, a mermaid demon.
    • Pride: Lucifer... who is a koala-like demon. Don't ask.
