Roleplay / Personifications

An RP series on Tumblr that consists of multiples of blogs, all spawned from one blog, A Personification of Greed, one of the many Once-ler–themed ask blogs spawned from The Lorax (2012). However, this little sub-fandom outgrew its roots and now is its own small universe, filled with angels, demons, and even the Devil himself. The main players are the Seven Deadly Sins and the Seven Heavenly Virtues, though there are many, many other personifications.

What sets these group of RPers apart from the rest of the RP blog on Tumblr is the continuity within itself, and the sense of community. While there are some inactive big name players, the active ones have created a wonderfully flowing universe, with set rules and realistic plots.

The "Personifications" are able to take hosts as well, and these characters span over several fandoms and even include Original Characters.

The Personification Sub-Fandom contains examples of:

• Abstract Apotheosis: The previous Peace dies off and the deceased Irene comes back to life into a more human form to be her successor.
• Alien Blood: With the case of the Virtues, their blood relatively matches the color they're normally associated with, if not a few notches lighter or darker.
  • Sins, on the other hand are a bit more tricky— the composition of their blood varies from one another, and the color doesn't add up to their associated color (eg. Gluttony has black, sludge like blood while Lust has smoke which will bleed out of him)
  • Angels bleed in an orange-red shade.
• All Love Is Unrequited:

  • Temperance and the first Chastity.

  • Then there's Greed towards the second Chastity, which was then confessed and reciprocated here, so this doesn't count anymore.
  • Michael toward Gabriel, however the former did confess to the latter. Gabriel freaks out at the sudden emotion and the guilt of killing Chastity.
  • Uriel towards Michael. The former says that he'd rather not mess up an already good friendship with him by confessing.
• All There in the Manual: Certain events that happened prior to the 'blog-canon' tend to be made into fics, as well as designs for Holy Hell/Seraph Modes floating around the character blogs or the moderators' blogs. The canon gets difficult to track and sifting through the posts becomes arduous. It also changes and evolves as it sees fit sometimes.
• Already Met Everyone: Mostly in the cases of the different versions of the Virtues and Sins, unless they're supposed to be an nth-generation replacement.
• Alternate Identity Amnesia: Inverted— whenever a Sin or Virtue goes to their respective Holy Hell and Seraph mode, they'll lose memories of the life they once lived. Once they return to their standard form, whether they remember what they have done or not when they're powered up varies.
• Always Someone Better: How the second Chastity felt about his predecessor. He's getting better, though, even by a fraction.
• A Wizard Did It: Pretty much the explanation for how all the magic anons work.
• Anthropomorphic Personification
• Animal Motifs: The most notable one being Gluttony and cats.
  • Humility and hummingbirds, mostly due to the pun.
  • Temperance and rabbits, due to his previous ownership of one. Irene is associated with them since she was one/is part-rabbit.
• Anyone Can Die: So long as a replacement can be made.
• Arc Words
  • For the first blog-canon corruption '...Proud to be Humility'
  • 'Come home' and other variations of it, during when Humility descended to madness after being cooped up in the Room for too long.
• Become a Real Boy: The first Patience gave up being a Virtue in order to be with his human love, Evangeline.
• Beethoven Was an Alien Spy: Among the several hosts that are original characters, there are some historical and famous (or in some cases infamous) people the Virtues and Sins take.
• Belligerent Sexual Tension: Between a lot of the characters, but most notably Temperance and Gluttony.
• The Bet: Gluttony bet against Temperance that it could go an entire week without eating. The former cheated via magic and both of them purified/corrupted into each other's places.
• Big Creepy-Crawlies: Greed, when a child (and presumably in Holy Hell mode).
• Big, Screwed-Up Family: All of the Sins make up this. The Virtues try, but they aren't much better.
• Bigger on the Inside: Humility can change the space inside of his house somehow, but only when he actually needs the space. Otherwise the rest of the rooms just aren't there or at the very least inaccessible.
• Born as an Adult: All the first-generation Virtues, any replacements (excluding Irene) and the first Pride fall under this category.
• Breaking the Fourth Wall: Played for laughs.

  Greed (after being asked how he'd know if he existed or not): I don’t! I’m actually just a chara—[BZSZPT]

• Bullying a Dragon: The angels constantly dehumanize the Virtues and perceive them as emotionless war machines only good for warding off Hellish forces. The same Virtues (well, at least the first-generation iterations) responsible for helping Heaven's forces to not lose during the Holy War and most likely have more than enough power to demolish Heaven. Then again, the latter would only drive the whole 'emotionless war machine' train of thought deeper.
• Bystander Syndrome: As soon as an insane and an extremely destructive Humility falls off the edge of Heaven and down to earth, Michael doesn't really care as to what would happen. Mildly justified since a lot of Heaven was destroyed in Humility's wake and due to the fact that he had a lot of work to begin with.
• Cast of Personifications: The roleplay is mainly about the personifications of the Seven Heavenly Virtues and the Seven Deadly Sins interacting with each other. While they are mostly immortal, they can be killed and a new entity personifying that thing will come into existence. Personifications of things other than virtues and sins also exist in this universe, such as Money and Love.
• Celestial Bureaucracy / Council of Angels: Zigzagged— all of Heaven is run by the Archangels and each of them is responsible for certain departments, however Michael is the undisputed leader. While the angels have to deal with Heavenly politics, humans live in Paradise reletively undisturbed.
• Character Blog: The medium through which the whole thing is run.
• The Chessmaster: Greed sets up and taunts the second Pride as a diversion for Heaven's troops in order to get the Sin's (or as he'd like to call his) weapons that Heaven confiscated after the Holy War.
  • Meta-wise, some moderators are notorious for this.
• Cold Turkeys Are Everywhere: Temperance tries to invoke this during a bet, listing off food in great detail thinking that Gluttony would end up losing it. It ends up backfiring on him since that only made himself hungry.
  • Made even worse by random people tempting him with food. He was done in (read as: corrupted) by chocolate cake.
• Color-Coded Elements: Subverted with Uriel— the patron angel of wind who wears primarily red garb— and Gabriel, who's the patron angel of fire yet wears shades of green. It's assumed that Michael and Raphael play it straight, being the patron angel of earth and water, respectively.
• Color-Coded for Your Convenience: On top of the fact that all the Virtues and Sins are predominantly white and black respectively, they also have a secondary color they're associated with.
• Continuity Lockout: Due to the sheer number of Personifications one has to keep track of, and the fact that a good portion of them has a year's worth of an archive this happens. It also doesn't help that some other blogs do a massive purging of posts and 'start over', making new readers even more confused by what has happened.
• Cool Helmet: Temperance gains one when in Seraph mode, however the coolness of the 'unicorn horn' (in Gluttony's words) on top of it is debatable.
• Cool Shades
  • PO-Greed a pair of these in order for other people to not read his emotions.
  • Gluttony has a pair, which is pretty useful considering that his eyes constantly glow.
• Dark Is Not Evil: Some of the Sins are quite friendly, and all of them have their own moral codes.
• Does This Remind You of Anything?: Darker-winged angels being treated worse than lighter-winged angels.
• Early-Installment Weirdness: The reason why most of the Sin's designs involved a tophat— it was meant to mimic the original Greed so they all would've had some unity.
  • Kindness' early design resembled the Once-ler prior to his success with a yellow color palette with wings slapped on.
  • On a similar vein, Charity's design being based off of a younger Norma Wiggins, however the design still remains to this day.
  • Some Sins and Virtues having Once-ler as a host. This was eventually rewritten for some of them when the fandom was drifting from its roots.
  • This blog contains a few of them.
• Elemental Powers
  • Green Thumb: One iteration of a second Patience has this, with branches and plants growing out of him to bring the point home.
  • Light 'em Up: The Virtue's holy light.
  • Playing with Fire: Most, if not all iterations of Wrath have some connection with flames.
  • Shock and Awe: One iteration of Sloth has this, however can't control it all that well.
• Embodiment of Vice: Alongside Embodiment of Virtue, basically the fundamental concept the entire lore rests on.
• Embodiment of Virtue: Alongside Embodiment of Vice, basically the fundamental concept the entire lore rests on.
• Evil Counterpart Race: Naturally the fallen angels/demons and Sins towards the angels and Virtues.
• Exposition of Immortality: They reminisce about old hosts and places they've been, an example being that the first Pride has been to Babylon.
• Expressive Ears: The most common ones exhibiting this being Gluttony and Lust.
• Face–Heel Turn: When the Virtues corrupt.
• Fantastic Arousal: The most common place for this are the Virtue/Sin's ears.
• Fake Memories: Due to his fear of being executed, Gabriel put himself in exile, and somehow made himself to believe to be a human pizza delivery boy by the name of Gabe.
  • If a Corruption of Purification lasts for a long enough time, this happens. The most prominent example was the first Pride who took the name Humilitas and started to hate the Sins and believed that he had a sibling attachment with the Virtues.
• Fantastic Caste System / Fantastic Rank System:
  • Naturally, the Archangels are the highest rank of any angel and by extension any heavenly being.
    • Or at least, they think they are. According to Sacrifice— he (and by extension any Virtue) have a higher purpose than any angel since while the Angels represent God's strength, Sacrifice and any other being deriving of him represents His mind.
    • While it isn't explicitly stated, the Virtues are treated as the lowest rank considering their status as 'abominations'.
  • Just as obvious, Lucifer is at the top Hell-wise.
    • The Sins in contrast to the Virtues are higher ranked than most demons and run their respective circle in Hell.
• Fantastic Measurement System: Husehs, a distance unit used in Heaven which specifically measures wings. Since it takes into account the curves of the wings and wingtips, it's extremely difficult to convert into any other units.
  • Ill-is^note  singular is ill-i, a more standard measurement unit in which one ill-i is 4/3 a meter.
• Fantastic Racism: The wing color of the angels determines how well they are treated.
• First Girl Wins: What seemed like happened with the Lust/Pride ship.
• Follow the Leader: Once the Greed blog was created, others soon made Sins blogs in the style of the first, and the Virtues soon followed.
• Fourth-Wall Mail Slot: How the "ask" part of these blogs is done.
• Furry Reminder
  • Gluttony exhibits (hell)cat-like traits, like purring and staying on all fours.
  • When Beni gave Irene chocolate and flowers at Valentine's Day, she ends up eating the flowers and smelling the chocolates.
• Genetic Memory: If a Personification is replaced, then the replacement has a chance of obtaining the predecessor's memory. The amount of memories they gain depends on the circumstances in which the predecessor died.
• Good Colors, Evil Colors
• Gosh Dang It to Heck!: Some of the Virtues do this.
  • Lampshaded with a purified Gluttony who is unable to swear. He's extremely ecstatic to have the ability to do so again once back to normal.
• Gratuitous Latin: The Latin names for the Virtues and Sins tend to be used whenever they're in their respective Seraph/Holy Hell Modes, or whenever something big is about to go down.
• Grey-and-Gray Morality
• Grudging "Thank You": After Humility taught Pride sign language during the period of time he had been turned deaf.
• Heel–Face Turn: When the Sins purify.
• He Is Not My Boyfriend: Shown here, albeit downplayed.

  "Oh no, it’s not like that at all." [Michael] said, looking slightly embarrassed. He could see how it might be perceived as romantic, but he wished that people wouldn’t assume all close relationships between two people were romantic.

• He Knows Too Much: The reason why the first Chastity met his demise is because he found out that Uriel and Lucifer had an affair.
• High School AU: Not exactly within the own series canon, but more as a joke on the side.
• Holy Burns Evil: Applies to the holy light that the angels and Virtues can use.
• Holy Halo: Seen in the Archangels' designs and the Virtues' Seraph modes.
• Human Weapon / Person of Mass Destruction: Well, the Virtues and Sins aren't exactly human, but they do fit the bill— the former moreso than the latter.
• Humanity Ensues: Invoked by magic Anonymous. Reactions from recipient vary from apathy to shock.
• I Will Punish Your Friend for Your Failure: After Temperance killed Gabriel, Uriel punishes Temperance by proxy and put Humility in the Room.
• Immortality Begins at Twenty: Implied in the angels' case, seeing as how there's such thing as angel children and the oldest angels seen so far (ie. Archangels) look like in their 20's-30's, while being heavily implied to be over ten thousand years old.
  • Subverted with Lucifer, who looks much older than the Archangels due to malnutrition despite being approximately the same age. This is what he would look like if he ate and took care of himself.
• Improbable Weapon User: One version of Greed has ribbons growing out of his back to deal longer ranged attacks. Essentially, it can be an extra pair of arms, which is pretty useful when stealing.
• In-Series Nickname: Usually it's just a shorter version of the persona's name.
  • APO-Diligence has a lot more, some of them not really making sense without context.
• Innocently Insensitive: According to Humility, the first Chastity overheard many comments that are to the effect of 'no one wanting to be a virgin'. The first Chastity became very bothered by these comments since to him, most humans viewed him (well, the thing he represented) as a joke.
• Instant Fan Club: In-universe— the Archangels have one. The club also publishes a magazine and is extremely excitable, apparently.
• Interpretative Character: As long as the Personification in question has certain traits that's associated with what they're named after then everything else is up in the air. However, the general rule of thumb is to have the moderator's consent in making a different iteration of a character they are currently playing as.
• Invisible to Normals: All the Sins and Virtues are normally invisible to everyone save their hosts.
• Ironic Name: In most cases where Sins and Virtues purify and corrupt to each other, most people call them by their 'original' name despite the fact that they don't signify that specific concept anymore.
• "It" Is Dehumanizing: The majority of angels refer to the Virtues and Sins as this, due to their status as 'Abominations'.
• Light Is Not Good: Especially in the case of the angels.
  • The Virtues do not always have nice hosts.
• Literal Split Personality: An odd variant— Sacrifice gets split into the seven Virtues, with Humility being the metaphorical husk of the aforementioned. However, the other Virtues have developed into their own person and look nothing like the original, excluding Humility.
  • Made even stranger since technically Sacrifice and Humility are two different people with the same body.
• Living Shadow: The Sins are essentially this.
• Long-Haired Pretty Boy: The first Patience, the second Humility, and both Prides (however the first only had long hair when purified).
• Love Triangle: Whooo boy, are there love triangles. Let's see:
  • Lust/Humility/Pride as type 11.
    • It started out as a type 3 or type 4 though (depending on where one starts and if one thinks Pride can even feel love.)
  • Gluttony/Poe/Temperance as type 7.
• Lower-Deck Episode: For one, a police officer angel, as well as a supposed spy angel have been cameo'ed in a roleplay on Georgia's blog. What makes things stranger is that Michael made a cameo on said roleplay, despite already having a blog for himself.
  • Meanwhile, angel children have been showing up in roleplays in Michael's blog.
• Magic A Is Magic A: The blogs try their hardest to stay continuous. Sometimes a mod feels the need to remind everyone of this.
• Medium Awareness: Sometimes the characters are aware of Tumblr mechanics. This has lessened over time, but sometimes questions are raised on whether the blogs themselves are the actual blog of the character (ie. they're the ones who update and such) or not.
• Monochromatic Eyes: Varies from Personification to Personification. The majority of Virtues and Sins have the same colored pupil, iris, and sclera.
  • Prophet Eyes: The first Patience, the second Humility, and the second Chastity have a variation of this, with green, blue and violet outlines around their eyes respectively.
• Motor Mouth: One Sloth's purified form seems to have him doing this. A lot.
  • According to a fic where the first Patience never became human, the aforementioned had a bad habit of going on tangents which bored many a child to sleep.
• My God, What Have I Done?: Gabriel, after people explained to him how the Virtues mourned for their dead brother Chastity, how painful it was for them for a family member to just be 'replaced' and had feelings in general.
• Naked People Are Funny: It usually happens whenever an unclothed Personification turns human.
• The Needless: Most Personifications don't really need to eat ^note unless you're Gluttony or sleep, but that doesn't stop them from doing it.
• New Powers as the Plot Demands: Occasionally.
• No Gender: All the Sins that live in the same house use 'it' as their preferred pronoun.
• Non-Humans Lack Attributes: Justified since Virtues and Sins usually keep those hidden by some force.
• Not Quite Flight: According to Temperance, all Virtues have some method of this. After all, how would they get back up to Heaven?
• The Nothing After Death: It's stated several times that when angels die they just fade away.
• Official Couple: Love/Sins' Lust, for a while.
  • Humility/PO-Lust, however they're taking a break now.
• Oh, My Gods!: Sins tend to use 'Angel' to replace God in reference to Lucifer being a fallen angel.
• Older Than They Look
• One-Winged Angel: The Holy Hell forms.
• Opposites Theme Naming: Again, with most Personifications and their opposites. This usually happens to ones that are abstract concepts rather than ones that personify a physical object.
• Out-of-Character Alert: It's a telltale sign that the personification will soon corrupt or become purified, besides the physical signs.
• Pals with Jesus: Due to the very nature of askblogs, any humans speaking with the immortal part of the cast tends to have shades of this. However it's more like acquaintances with Jesus.
  • A Host-Personification relationship can be described as this.
• Personality Powers: It comes with the territory of being that concept personified.
• Red Herring: Back when Lust, Temperance, and the new second Chastity went around to figure out how the first Chastity died, the second Chastity 'remembered' how his predecessor died. The memory itself involved fire, therefore they assumed Uriel was behind the death of the first Chastity due to the fact that his wings resembled fire. In reality, it was Gabriel (the patron angel of fire) who did him in. However, Uriel was part of the reason why Chasity had to be killed in the first place.
• Reign of Terror: Shortly after the holy war, Michael killed many dark-winged angels in fear of another rebellion.
• Reincarnation: Played with— when a Persona dies, in a way they are truly 'dead'. They are, however replaced by a new version of them to continue their work.
• Resurrective Immortality: Michael and Lucifer have this.
• Retcon: Due to the multiple versions of certain Personifications, one version of them who was important in a certain plot point would not mean that the other versions would hold that same importance in that event.
• Room 101: A special place in Heaven to teach the Virtues a lesson.
• Schizo Tech: Downplayed and discussed— In Heaven, a place where everything seems to be locked in a Classical timeframe (where there isn't any obvious allusions to modern technology), it's heavily implied there are guns.
• Screw Yourself: In the form of Hummycest— pairing up both Humility and his corrupted self. Really, any pairing involving a Personification's standard and corrupted/purified self will count as this.
• Seven Deadly Sins: Obviously.
• Seven Heavenly Virtues: Just as obvious.
• Star-Crossed Lovers: Any mixture of Heaven/Hell.
  • Probably the most egregarious case would have to be Uriel/Lucifer.
• Status Quo Is God: The Balance must always be maintained and will do so by any means necessary.
• The Only One Allowed To Kill You: Pride towards Humility.
• Tempting Fate: 'The light and dark shall not mix'. Guess what happens.
• Took a Level in Badass: The Seraph/Holyhell modes.
• Twist Ending: The audience assumed that the first Patience had a happy ending with Lena. Well, he didn't.
• Urban Fantasy
• Urban Segregation: In Heaven, the northern district typically houses the poor, the southern hold the rich, the east is where the military bases are, and the western quarter is old Heaven.
• The Usurper: Greed and Pride attempt to take over Hell while Lucifer was a younger version of himself at the time. They failed, and they were exiled from Hell's circles for a time. Any Sin who would contact them would be punished.
• Verbal Tic: Both iterations of Lust use tildes in their speech regularly~. When Chastity corrupted he gained this quirk, while Lust lost it when purified.
  • Gluttony tendSSS to Capitalize C's and S'SSS, while drawling out the latter. When he and Temperance switched, he started speaking with all lowercase. However Temperance didn't gain his quirk, instead capitalizing the last few letters in his senteNCES.
  • Humility does not use any contractions to mimic how the Angels traditionally spoke.
• Voice of the Legion: This usually occurs more with Sins and corrupted Virtues if pushed too far. Due to the text format, it's represented in Zalgo text.
• What Happened to the Mouse?: Occasionally minor RPs are dropped for various reasons.
• What Measure Is a Non-Human?: The Virtues and Sins are considered to be abominations to the angels, the former in which is only considered useful when they are needed to fight next time another war comes up. They have been seen to be sentient creatures capable of thought and feeling, but the angels are apathetic to this and are very dead set on their views of them being abominations and war machines.
• Where the Hell Is Springfield?: The area where most, if not all the Personifications live and the exact location of Heaven isn't implicitly stated, however it's implied that the former case is that they all live in a secluded area.
• Who Wants to Live Forever?: Most of the Sins and Virtues in at least one point in their life.
  • Pride because of his beloved city Babylon.
  • Gluttony because of his girlfriend Poe.
  • The first Patience, because of his girlfriend, and later wife, Evangeline.
  • Greed, mostly because he wanted to experience mundane things like looking at the stars without thinking about their monetary value.
• Year Inside, Hour Outside: The Room in Heaven.
• You Taste Delicious: Naturally Gluttony does this a lot to people, with all of them tasting like existing food items to him.
